The real problem with SoD is the frenetic and insane pace that the community feels it has to push itself towards. Guilds that say oh real life comes first but then they're already posting signup sheets for Molten Core on week 2. The only way you can possibly get a character to level cap and have all your pre-raid BiS ready, is if you are spending basically most of your life on the game. And by that, I mean you don't go to school and you don't have a full-time job.
It is shocking to me in a way, just how many people fit this description. As if it's somehow become the new norm to be jobless, not have a family to support and play SoD all day and night.

It's okay to just admit that the game they made isn't good. But to say the game is not casual enough is insane. This is the most casual they've ever made the game. You can play almost completely solo unless you want to do group content, and if you want to do group content then there's always going to be limitations to that. You're not, not playing the game because it's taking the only time you nave to do physical activity. You just don't want to play the game because it's not great, which is perfectly fine, but they need to know that if you're going to give them feedback.

Zones are still full, dungeons can be run, raids can be performed (even earlier new raids), and the AH is stocked. I’m on a medium server and not even the high pop servers. It’s 100% not dead. I’m just one player, but I wanted more content in the spirit of Classic WoW, not modifications of raids and dungeons I’ve already done 100’s of times. Some of the decisions SoD developers made just made no sense to me. They picked the least popular dungeons in the game and turned them into raids yet did nothing to address the aspects that made those dungeons unpopular in the first place. They gave existing classes “new” abilities that were really just later expansion abilities from retail. I expected new quests, new zones, new dungeons and new raids developed with the same philosophy as baseline Classic WoW. Sod was just overall disappointing. Not awful, but it definitely missed the mark.

Even if there are classic players that want hard raids, I'm not sure how "level up raids" that are meant to offer an alternative to questing needs to be hard... Chances are, if ppl can fully level to 60, most ppl will have crap gear as they go through this content anyway, making it harder. The only reason ppl had crazy gear for these "level up" raids is because of how phases work.

  • @tobaccobuyer
    @tobaccobuyer Месяц назад +2

7:00 there are a lot more Classic Era players that want the game harder and slower to level than you are saying. We've had the "power leveling social experiment" that Classic Era was and it was a success, but was it true to Vanilla WoW? No. Vanilla WoW was a GRIND for all classes and much more so for specific ones. The dungeons all the way through posed a challenge unless you were over leveled or very well geared or an exceptionally good group talent wise.
Many, many players would love fresh Classic Era without layering, and tweaked for higher difficulty all the way through with increased experience required to level, maybe 50% more per level than their current nerfed pre patch 1.12 state. The way to make an MMORPG more social is to make it very grindy and thus group reliant to power level. Power leveling was literally only happening back in 2005 if you were in a group of two at minimum. Most people leveled at a snails pace. How does this impact the social aspect of the game? It condenses the player base into a much smaller level range, how is that important? Because the game is more fun when you can take a break for some RL stuff and not have to come back to see the friends you made leveling are now 5-8 levels higher than you and show no signs of slowing down.
Drop rates for gear also need a major nerf. WoW Classic has a retail mindset when it comes to gearing up, everything is automatic, little effort required, no one has a hard time getting the gear they want. That is NOT Vanilla. In Vanilla it took players a LONG TIME to get certain drops, if they didn't just give up. I'm talking months and months for trying to get certain Pre Raid BiS gear. When this happens it helps to form bonds between players as you are more likely to talk to other players about how long you've been trying to get a certain item. I can't count the amount of times I had players telling me this is their 30th attempt or even 50th attempt or more to get a certain item. I seen people trying for Ironfoe for the 100th time back in 2005. Is that happening now? No. People are getting their gear like they are on retail.
    Fix the game Blizzard.

Speak for yourself, if I want a shitty grindfest I'll go play Runescape or one of the Korean MMOs. Vanilla's drop rates and exp rates are fine.
The problem is entirely mages being overpowered and being able to aoe farm dungeons. Just add an aoe damage cap and make dungeons a weekly reset like a raid and magically the problems will go away.

I also believe they go a few steps to far with stuff to get reactions from the players and then they will know how many steps to pull back on stuff for their official take on classic+

I started end of P3, quit P4 because as a warrior, I couldn't find a group that didn't have the items I needed on HR. I'd whisper 20 different forming groups, and get no invites. Tried making my own groups but finding a tank and healer could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Pre-bis items like Lionheart costs tons of gold in addition to consumables, enchants, T0.5 questline. Because I was on an artificial and arbitrary timer until raids dropped, I didn't have time to farm gold while also farming all the other things. It just became a full-time job to acquire gear that would likely be replaced a few weeks into raiding.
I think if you're in a guild already, or have friends that are playing, it's probably a LOT easier to deal with the grouping issues, and the gold shortage was only because I started late, I think if you have been on SoD since P1 you probably have enough gold to afford all these things. Then again streamers I watched were just trading Cata or retail gold for SoD gold.
I don't actually know who's more to blame for the massive rush to pre-bis, is it Blizzard's fault for setting a short timeline? Is it the community's fault for expecting perfection and absolutely min-maxing everything? I don't even mind min-maxing generally, I did it in Classic 2019 and still had fun, but I wasn't being gatekept out of groups back then because I played Shaman, and Shaman has WF. I did it in Cata as well. But it was some combination of all of that plus Deviate Delight starting up, 13/13 Cata Heroic raiding, MoP remix, preparing for TWW in retail, Elden Ring DLC, and having to level up and gear in SoD P4 (only to just stand around waiting for a group that doesn't already have a warrior or rogue HRing items) that just burned me out. I hope timelines like this change in the future, I'd rather have content drought than whatever the hell SoD p4 ended up being.

For a hardcore vanilla andy, the most resemblance of Vanilla, a re experience if you will was Nostalrius and to a slightly lesser extent Hardcore Classic. Because cheating at the game was not allowed on Nostalrius and the devs took it really seriously like Blizzard did back in the day in the 2005-2008 era. I played back then and I can tell you from experience, if you cheated at the game back then you would get a warning, and then a permanent ban. There was no "mommy mommy please let me play", nope, they did not want cheating in their games beacuse they know it ruins the experience. People would get perma banned for making anti-afk scripts in AV during TBC. I was there and I remember it. People would sit in the cave and collect honor and have autohotkey script running that would press a few keys to make your character jump or whatever so you would not get afked out. They would give you a warning and if you did it again you were done.
Nostalrius had a similar approach because they wanted to mimic the experience of Vanilla wow and they had the enthiusiasm and resources to do that and there was no gold selling. Knowing that there is no cheating at the game allows for more immersive game play. Knowing that someone is not going to be able to pay a chinse gold farmer 20 bucks for gold that took you an entire day to grind allows you to take the game more seriously and immerse your self.
For me they would have to solve 2 things for me to return to Vanilla wow. 1) Cheating must have no place in the game and 2) Premade bg's must have no place in the game.

@@gamerdude999 Agreed. If a 10 man premade has to wait 30 minutes to play, that's too fucking bad. It's time the fun is with the majority not the minority and most people want to play when it behoovs them and that is a most of the time alone or with one or two friends. However I think a 3 man premade would have too much impact on the game still and I would want to have 3 man premade must only be paired with a opposing team who also has a 3 man premade. Even 2 good players could heavily impact the way a game swings in a 10 man BG like Warsong Gulch.

I am not interested in Cata nor in Era. I've tried Season of Discovery each phase doing the raids with a fun team but mid/end phase 3 all interest was simply lost. I've played maybe 10 hours since phase 4 came out. I might try it in the future, however it feels a lot less of a hype/lively compared to the start of Season of Discovery. SOD was a breath of fresh air. SOD was the beta of Classic Plus. It gave them an excuse for any fuckups for a Classic Plus. It gave them an out, if you will. "Oh, this failed? Oh well."
WOW started hitting the shitbed around WOD. We were so on that "WOW drug" or Copium That we just looked over it. If you get down to it... One could say it started going downhill with LK. But the game was pretty decent, so we just turned a blind eye to it.
By BFA...We are older now. We are not kids anymore. Time is precious. So we started getting very pissed off. Shadowlands hits, and then we finally go, "Ok, Fuck this shit. I am done."
The only fanbase WOW has now are the people like Staysafe, Esfand, and others who remember how times were and hope we get them back. (And anyone who may read this comment.)
The only problem I currently think is this:
I almost think, at times, Blizzard fucks up this game on purpose. Weening us off of this like a drug and making us not want to play anymore. And they cancel the game entirely. The devs should hire people who have private servers. As toxic as that environment is, They know the game better than the game developers... LOL
