"If I could be serious for a minute?" 😂😂😂 Lance Storm is one of the best technical wrestlers and one of the more underrated personalities in wrestling history.
The word "underrated" is overused to an absurd degree in popular discourse. Your statement is a rare example of the appropriate use of this word. Lance shoulda been the champ, a booker, an owner. Any promotion not tapping his talent is a failure.... so all of them.
@@ESWShockwaveyeah so they should’ve put him in the upper end of the card, in case you didn’t know wrestling isn’t real and they choose who gets the belt
Lance was my trainer. He’s a great guy that cared about his students. He made sure we were the safest in the biz. He gave honest feedback and I really appreciated my time in Calgary. He said he didn’t have butter or sugar for his entire run as a professional. Blew my mind.
Dude not that I’m any sort of physical specimen or workout fiend, but even if I were, I wouldn’t be able to even fathom cutting out butter and sugar entirely. Damn.
The problem with fully choreographed matches is that when a mistake is made in a spot, instead of switching things up and doing something different, they reset and try it all over again.
Storm is such a brilliant guy. I watched him a lot on Figure Four Daily stuff, and he comes across as a mix of Cornette and Bret Hart. He has an old school mentality and analytical/technical mindset, but is still cordial and professional in his criticisms when he has them. It's a very refreshing perspective on things, without being sucked into any large extreme. Lots of wrestlers would do well to listen to his advice.
I'm quite sure that MANY Wrestling Fans have from time to time done the "If I can Be Serious For A Minute" during their daily grinds LOLOL! I know I do it a lot just to annoy or aggravate or even get that priceless reaction from someone who isn't expecting it! I have been a huge Lance Fan for years and you are correct Chris...this guy has A 6th Sense about The Grappling World! Glad you were able to catch up with Mr. Storm and have a face to face pow Wow! Cheers From Ohio To the CVV Community!
I remember years ago I sent letters off to promotors and wrestling schools when I was thinking about becoming a wrestler.. Lance was the only one who got back to me, sending me a letter giving me much more advice that I asked for. He didn't have to do that but I was grateful and for that I think he's a great guy who has alot of valuable knowledge of the industry..
I was first exposed to Lance as a kid watching ECW and immediately got behind his ring work and I always loved the Impact Players since him and Credible had such an interesting tag dynamic with being almost polar opposite wrestlers in the ring. I know Okada has one hell of a drop kick but to me, Lance’s was and still is the best lol.
If Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic became Canadian, he'd be Lance lol imagine those 3 people in the same room: Lance the pro wrestler, Mirko the MMA fighter, and Henry the punk OG.
Lance is the ultimate wrestlers wrestler...when your peers say that wrestling you is like "having the night off" that is very high praise .loved when he had all the belts in wcw and renamed them, very underrated run
It's so weird seeing Lance being so normal. It used to annoy me to no end when he would get on the mic and say "If I could be serious for a minute" thinking in my head, dude, you're always serious. That's how you know he was great at what he did 👌
Lance Storm is one of the best technical wrestlers ever he should of one a World Champion whether it was ECW, WCW, WWE, NJPW or TNA with great character work and amazing physic for his size with great promo work after establishing himself
Lance Storm is just like "The Ice Man" as well as "The Man Of A Thousand Holds" Dean Malenko. They're both "in-ring technicians" and their "wrestling prowess" speaks for itself!
I absolutely love this interview. Lance definitely was always someone i loved watching in the ring. He has an amazing take on the business and as a fan its just so insightful to learn a few of the nuances that us fans may not actually understand.
Fascinating interview! Amazing insight from a great mind in the business. Always liked him in the ring. How great was the finisher name the Straight Shooter?! That coulda been his alias it's so good. Gives homage to the Sharpshooter, he is a straight shooter, and the move is straight compared to the folded legs of the Sharpshooter. Miss opportunity from WWE there.
Lance is a genius. Very smart man who deserved a World Heavyweight Championship in WCW. Plus on WWE games I used to use the Single Crab and Super Kick in my moveset.
I really can’t stand the people that call Lance boring. They obviously haven’t listened to him for more than 10 seconds. His level of industry knowledge and insight is incredible!
He was always my favorite in ECW. Then did great in WCW but unfortunately the company was on the way down during that time. And WWF fumbled big time on him once the invasion angle ended. If I was an TNA wrestler I would listen to every word he says.
Lance's wrestling character always felt so sterile and unnuanced to me.. He was always incredible to watch in his actual matches, but he had such a generic, unconvincing presence in his promo's. Listening to him in these shoot interviews is always mindblowing to me because he's such a naturally endearing conversationalist. His intelligence is truly off the charts (and so is his wrestling IQ, goes without saying). It's always such a treat to listen to him talk about the business whenever a new interview gets uploaded.
Lance Storm was born to be the "straight-man". Even when he's not trying to be serious, he's still more serious than anyone else in the room and it's quite endearing. Even him being in ECW as this textbook wrestler with a great physique and a bit of a "I'm better than you." personality seemed so contrasting, yet so fitting.
Love his response at 32:44 as I was saying that as CVV was explaining Russo’s lame reasoning for short matches (the real reason was Russo doesn’t know or like pro wrestling). Storm is great.
@@juliandicks6822 for their limited network and availability that’s just fine. Metrics aren’t the same as they were in the 90s. WWE is getting ratings that WCW was getting on their deathbed, AEW is getting ratings that would get a wrestling show cancelled back in the day. ROH doesn’t even have great subscriptions to their channel. But the TNA in ring action and angles have been better than they have in years.
I wouldve still watch Jericho vs Lance move for move without the signatures moves from today. These two can pull it off and still have a great match 🙌🏾
I hated what they did to lance storm in WWE in the early 2000s. But then again, they already had Chris Benoit, who was also extremely technical and not particularly quick on the mic, but who was dangerous looking with all those missing teeth, that thick neck and a face like a catchers mit. Anyway, glad to see him still involved and at a high level. He knows his shit, that much is clear. I recently started paying more attention to TNA now that ist TNA and Dolph is over there. Looking forward to looking for Lances influence in the matches.
Im completely with Lance on pins. Would like to see them make it actually look like theyre working to keep them down, as opposed to 'lets do this pose.' Also I wish we saw more wrestlers "trying" to kick out of pins and not just waiting for a random moment to spring out. The wiggling around in rollups dont look great either, but a good pin would allow them to actually work to get out enough for it to look believable while not getting out.
Wow! She’s really a very cool person. I have so much more respect for her and what she does. I really hope she excels in everything she wants to do. I hope she gets as nice push. She was fantastic in the rumble.
The only real advantage of Fahrenheit is that it capable of being more specific without the use of decimals. Also, in case you've never noticed, Fahrenheit is absolutely PERFECT for the weather. When it's over 100, that's where it's dangerously hot. When it's below 0, that's where it's dangerously cold. And humans tend to populate places that don't get to those extremes often, if at all. Most flora and fauna are the same way.

The pin can be a great visual if you make it so. A pin has got to look like "I'm trying to win! I don't want to lose this match!" it's got to have that facial expression and sheer effort along with the body language of the pin. A lot of people ask "why do they try to pin only like a minute or so into the match?" they're trying to win! They don't want to lose! Especially a heel they just want the quick pin and the get the hell outta there! That's the story.

my favorite wrestler from the 90s, love Lance. I used to be a daily visitor to his website, the guy was WAY ahead of the online game back then.
His book reviews and stuff were great

Lance Storm was the only reason I watched WCW in the time he was there
He was an incredible performer.
He used to have us punch towels to practice our working punch. The key was to make it look as real as possible without the towel moving.
We all love the big personalities in wrestling. But you GOTTA RESPECT the true technicians and students of the craft. Lance is top 10 all time.
