During Tyler Childers’ 3-show sell-out run at Nashville’s Exit/In, PG’s Perry Bean swooped in for a pre-soundcheck hang with the bandleader, Jesse Wells (guitar/fiddle/baritone/mandola), James Barker (guitar/pedal steel), and Craig Burletic (bass) to cover all the gear these good ol’ boys use to spark some hoopin’ ’n’ hollerin’.
Bandleader Tyler Childers’ has been long associated with Martin flattops, but 2018 saw him shift over to primarily using this Collings DS1 with a slotted headstock.
Multi-instrumentalist Dr. Jesse Wells (he teaches at Morehead State’s Kentucky Center for Traditional Music) spends most of his time on this special-made paisley (“pepperoni finish”) T-style that is equipped with a B-bender and built by Nashville’s own Forrest Lee Jr.
Multi-instrumentalist James Barker spends time between guitar and pedal steel. His main 6-string ride is this Fender Highway One Telecaster that was modded to fit a Lollar Imperial humbucker in the neck, outfitted with compensated brass saddles, and even got a facelift with a customized leather pickguard thanks to Daniel Romano.

The bassist is hilarious. “Finally got me a pedal” 😂 one bass to his name and he’s borrowing the amp. Dude is living the dream.
I love how tyler sees the camera “oh fuck” leaves immediately
Been listening to Jesse play for many years. Tyler has just come on like a hurricane and deserves every bit of success in the world. Go Kentucky!
And I could listen to Jesse play for many more years. Best of the best.
And I could listen to Jesse for many more years! Best of the best!
You need to come back through town so I can hear you play again. It's been awhile.
That guy is seriously a monster picker. I can’t believe his name isn’t more well known among country guitarists. I listen to these shows on Nugs.net and my jaw hits the floor sometimes at some of the shit I hear Jesse pull out on a nightly basis.
“Not sure how all this came about, best I can tell, y’all left your back door open, now there’s a stark raving hilljack in your living room covered in Goat’s blood. Dying to rant about how 'Americana' hits him in the same place as the words 'App-uh-lay-chuh' and 'Child-ers'. It crawls up my spine. My name is Tyler Childers, I am an Appalachian artist from the hills of East Kentucky and I play country music.”
Bradley it’s more like “Chill-ders”
Super nice of Tyler to come out and do it, even though he didn’t even really need to. Most artists as tired as he is wouldn’t come out just to talk for 5 minutes. What a talented crew. Tyler writes some of the best songs out today, too. Easily my favorite rundown in a while.
CHILL-ders
Tyler came out at the beginning and realized he was in the shot and thought “Oh shit” then just said fuck it and went down the stairs anyway 😂😂
Probably my favorite rig rundown yet, Tyler’s band is absolutely killer
Yep Lucero was a good one too but this takes the cake
Hey Tyler just wanted to say hi to an old friend glad to see your not shoveling no more great job on your music tell her to much camel toe go home and bake cookies grandma uwhere's my tickets bud
Nice shout out to Mountain Music Exchange, one of the best and friendliest shops I've had the chance to visit
James Chandler absolutely. Pikeville representing
Lol Tyler walking through all sly at 1:26
Tyler always sings about pines.. Love his tuner.
“Minnie Pearl Style” Feel that. Still have the hang tag on my bass gig bag from 16yrs ago lol.
Tyler is the best artist out right now period. Wish the interviewer would have toned it down a little and let them talk. We want to hear them. Good interview though and I'm so glad ya'll did this
I like how the guy agrees the Tele is "well loved" and then says it came reliced that way. Hilarious.
Sorta surprised that they didn't have John interview. This seems like more of his type of interview, since he is a Nashville country recording musician
Talented beyond words.
Coolest band around.
CHILL-DERS.
Finally seeing these guys tomorrow!
dpduke69 you won’t be disappointed
these guys kick ass
Tyler is like my guitar and my voice all I need
You'd think they'd tell the interviewer how to correctly pronounce his damn name correctly.
I stopped watching as soon as he said it lol.
Stephen Jones Lol me too brother
He asked Tyler directly when he introduced him near the end of the video respectively
I like his lady pants
Dudes just a little obnoxious
Yew! Cant wait for the upcoming shows in Orlando and Auggy doggy
Nice daniel romano shout out love that guy
I am dumb as dirt however listening to this interview learned me how to ask questions. So sad I went to a local music store and they were clueless. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS ❤
Great job ! Love you
Great to see this! Great band with a bunch of killer gear and a good bunch of guys. Wish Perry would’ve gotten Tyler’s name right
30 seconds in and he's done
Cheers PG - nice selection of gear!
That rules.
Love this!!!!
Love the tele leather pickguard by the great Daniel Romano!
Anybody else's eyes dry out staring at this video?
Loved this ! Thanks so much for sharing
Need to see a whiskey Myers episode soon!!
Man, I've been listening to Tyler Childers for a long time. Honestly it kind of makes me sad they're so huge now.
I’d like to hear the steel through each pedal as he’s talking about them.
The steel guitar at 23:38 sounded like something from a Jamey johnson song
The Interviewer, "Hey man I have this Stuff, Im cool too???"
PLUS I ROLL MY SLEEVES
I like the Guy who interviewed Dave Cobb and Greta van fleet better
child derrrs sent me
I’m eight months older than that fender twin reverb.
*Tyler comes in at* 38:00
Is it Premier Gih-tar or is it Gee-tar?
GET THE DD7. THAT TAP IS BEAUTIFUL
How much coke did this guy do before the interview?
He couldn’t atleast pronounce Childers correctly.
Big fan, but don’t know how to pronounce his name?
Catawissa Kid I thought the same.
I've always hear Chill ders
You're not the only one - 38:05
The best artists today have names we can't pronounce
He pronounced it CHILL-ders when he introduced himself in concert. I'll take his word for it.
Is that dane cooks little brother?
Back when Nashville hadn’t ate his soul yet.
Does anyone know which tuning is used on the pedal steel guitar? Thx
e9th
I hate interviewers like him. Asks questions, and interrupts with something to say to every damn thing.
This guy interviewed billy strings too, it always seems like he’s on coke or some sorta upper lol (the interviewer)
JD SIMO 😁
The interviewer reminds me of a 'joe'
?!?!! Wow I don't know jack
Sure do hope Whiskey Myers is coming up soon on your ‘red dirt’ list
This interviewer seriously makes these rig rundowns hard to watch. Had to turn off a few of them cuz he made me feel so uncomfortable and sorry for the artists showing their gear
That bass player is not helping the "cheap musician" stereotype
Idk man, I think thats the way to roll. If you got the skill and you're gettin it done on stage then save dat money baby.
@@jurisprudence6549 totally. I was just making a cheap joke
No pun intended
Dude is probably the most talented musician on that stage by a fair margin. The way he carries the band and still stays out of the way. Think about it. A lot of bands can lose the bass and yeah it's gonna sound different but take him out, the entire feel, groove, and movement is gone. All of them are definitely gifted and extremely talented. But that bass player is incredible.
Update: The more I watch this, the less I enjoy it. Who is this guy interviewing? He is totally insecure. He's obviously a very smart musical guy, but he ruined this video. If he would have been calm and said only 8.7% of the words he said in this interview, this would have been my fav video of all time.
Aw, leave the guy alone. He knows his stuff and most of the musicians he interviews seem comfortable with him. Not everyone can have the charisma of a talk show host.
I don't think he's insecure at all. He's just always seemed awkward like that on every interviews
Definitely don’t think Perry was the best guy to interview a country band. Should’ve brought John out, he talks a lot too but he knows the genre better and it shows
Do none of you that watched this one watch premier guitar? That interviewer has been doing this for years and hes a great interviewer.
I prefer John over Perry, BUT, Perry always seems to keep the band comfortable and relaxed, while also keeping them talking. There’s a reason they use Perry for interviews. He just has a different personality than John. He gets a whole lot of info out of the people he interviews.
Still can't pronounce his name right smh
😬
so asks if the strings are round wounds and gets corrected that they are flat wounds... what guitar/bass cat cannot tell round wounds from flat wounds...
EVH not a chicken picker in theory? Try "Hot for Teacher"
Jesus Loves You
Love you guys but its Pronounced CHILLLLLLL-DUUUUUURRRRSSSSS Do some research before you make yourself look stupid.....like you did
Goofball cant even say his name correctly
Play something for fk sake
When will this guitarded players understand that RESONANCE IS BAD FOR ELECTRIC GUITAR. It is energy lost in the body that never gets to the amp. Wtf!?!?
Maybe it is to you, but tone and feel are subjective so it doesn't really matter
@@hh4826 no not to me. The magnetic pickups can't hear the wood resonate. They don't hear sound. They transform the MOVEMENT of the strings not the sound of the strings into electricity. The sound is born only at the amp. Google how a magnetic pickup work.
Im not sure it even matters dude lol. Its all subjective.
@@Its_LumberJack no it is the science of the magnetic pickup. It can't be subjective. Even Les Paul said that the best electric guitar body is a piece of railroad track. Becoes it doesn't resonate. It is a totally different technology then acoustic guitars. Resonance it is energy lost in the guitar that doesn't go to the amp.
Then according to you every chambered, semi hollow electric sounds shit? Arristides guitars are bad guitars and every guitar builder that thinks different than you or Will Gelvin is an idiot.? I know how pickups work. I've wound them many times. They are NEVER entirely free from microphonic behavior when played loudley through an amp. EVEN when they are well potted. (Otherwise you couldn't make your guitar feedback ) So resonance can surtainly play a positive roll in an electric guitar.
