Jim Seals passed a couple weeks ago, RIP brother "We May Never Pass This Way Again", much love. Watched you guys at Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheater summer 75 and stayed after the show to listen to your talk. Inspirational.
I loved Seals and Crofts. I didnt realize until after Jim passed that his brother was a part of England Dan and John Ford Coley. Anyone, heart broken when i heard of his passing, thank God we still have the music ✌
Best place ever to see a great show!…seen so many of my faves there, best of my memories 😎✌️
Wow..I didn’t know that.
Yes RIP Jim ❤️🙏😢
Asia & BJ, you’ll love their “Diamond Girl” and “We May Never Pass This Way (Again)”!!
"Hummingbird"
and "Get Closer"
Yes , great songs!!!
Yes two other great songs
Or "when you meet them"
The Isley Brothers covered "Summer Breeze" and made it soulfully delicious, but Seals and Crofts version has my heart. So Beautifully done. What a genius production.
The harmonies of Sills and Croft blend so well, sound's like an instrument.
Truth because the Isleys version was the first one I ever heard on Soul Train as a tween 🤭 but seals and Crofts music is a standard 💜✌
To be fair , I wouldn’t call the Isley Brothers version a “ sample”, more like a cover…
True
I’m a huge Isley Brothers fan, and I love their cover, but the original is the better of the two
@@paulmcraney8934 Not by much. I say the only reason is because I remember when this came out so by the time the Isley Bros. covered it I was already used to the original. The Isley Bros. version stands on its own.
I love this song so much. Days gone by when a man was out working hard and coming home to his wife was what he looked forward to. She made it all okay .
Gives me goosebumps after 40 years. RIP Jim Seals
I wish you guys would get on a Seals and Crofts binge! Jim Seals passed a few weeks ago and no one has given them a decent tribute. They had soooooooooo many great songs and are absolutely worthy
Brother Dan Seals of England Dan & John Ford Cooley was great also. Got to meet him after a performance when he performed at WKU after he went Country.
@@billallen1307 Oh yeah, I love"I'd really love to see you tonight" by his brother's group.
Probably because they stayed behind the scenes.
This was a huge hit in the mid 70's, practically an anthem.
I was 11 in 1972 When SUMMER BREEZ was released
early '70s
This is the best song to listen to while laying in a hammock at the beach...So gentle, but there's some nice bite to that guitar's sustain...
I can smell the ocean, feel the cool drink in my hand as I watch the birds flying past...
Jim and Dash had such amazing harmonies ! RIP Jim...
Isley Brothers did a cover of this song with their total soulful, r&b Isley's flavor . They kill it! Might be where bj knew it from 🔥 seals and crofts are easy- listening, soft rock, folk... flavor.
Love you two 💞
Such a gentle, sweet, melodic song. Makes me feel good every single time.
Seals and Crofts had some great songs and were known for their on point harmonies. Jim recently passed away. R.I.P. brother. I got to see them live once. They invited people to go backstage for a peace ✌️ rally.
You guys need to react to more Seals & Croft. Tunes like King of Nothing, Humming Bird, and We May Never Pass This Way Again!
Growing up as a Kid in the 70's this was FM Radio all day Love It!
Diamond Girl by Seals & Croft is another great song to react to…
This song paints a beautiful evening, coming home, the neighborhood sounds, lights on in the house. A very comfy song, end of a long weekend starting your weekend in a CHILL mood, you can probably call it soft rock.. you felt it right BJ.. Asia the music is really sweet... Enjoy your weekend!! "Makes you feel fine"!! 😉😂😎
Thanks for listening
This song brings back so many great memories from back in the day...hip hugger elephant bell bottom jeans, halter tops, flowers in my hair, skinny dipping, freedom and summer breezes. I could go on, but will stop..lol. Thanks for taking me back.
And don't forget the platform shoes.. mine were blue swede with toe stars 😉
Right there with you! It's like I'm 20 and in college again.
Thanks for listening
Seals & Crofts were my favorite duo back in the 70s, and Summer Breeze is still my favorite song. RIP Jim, your music was the soundtrack of my youth.
It was considered soft rock to folk. Many ballads back in the day. Definitely a defining time in the 60' and 70's. 🙏♥️
So thankful I got to experience this music in the early 70s. Such a cool, relaxing vibe that got a lot of air time. This is soft rock. Elton John, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, etc. Glad you guys liked it. Brings back memories.
Thanks for listening
This is the music we played at our 8th-grade garage parties in 1973. Seals & Croft have a catalog of great songs. Thanks for bringing back such sweet innocent memories. Great reaction ❤
They were part of the “singer/songwriter” genre. Others in this were Jim Croce,John Denver,Paul Davis, Carly Simon,Carole King… and in the instrumental part, if you listen closely, you can hear one of those toy pianos..
Ohh wow..I just love listening to ole classic songs like this❤️ its been so long since I heard this but man, It makes me smile😁❤️
They were definitely part of that early '70s singer songwriter movement. Along with the likes of Jim Croce, James Taylor, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, etc etc. I always thought they brought a little something different to the genre. They always had a quirky little harmonic or melodic change in their music which stood out. Love them.
Great reaction! I remember listening to this song when I was a pre-teen, and daydreaming that this sounds like a life I would like to live with a loving wife to come home to and a peaceful existence. Then my parents got divorced soon after and I realized that kind of life is more of a dream than reality. Nonetheless, I can still capture the serenity this song imparts to me if I think back on those days in the early seventies. This deserves a donation for sure!
This is more, soft, California-esque, rock; melodic, catchy, and a great story being told, where you can put yourself at the beach and just look out at the water and feel it. CONGRATS!! on the 200K - YAY!!
Thank you!!
Love this song. Been listening to this since 1975. The Isley Brothers sampled this song.♥️
Isley Brothers did not "sample" this song, they cut their own distinct version. Sampling was not a thing back in the 70's thank goodness
@@davidbrown6039 thanks for letting me know. I have heard their version, it's slower, but still rocken!✌️
The Isley’s did not sample it, they covered it and killed it back in 1973. Sampling technology was not introduced until about 10 years later.
Seals and Croft: I’ll Play for You. First song I played for my wife the day we were married over 30 years ago. I think you’ll enjoy it!
This is one of the most amazing songs ever recorded in the 1970s. This is truly what music was all about back then.. so easy going. No worries.
Asia - You being a singer, you will LOVE Get Closer by Seals & Crofts.
This song always takes me back to the summers if my youth. Unique and never gets old.
They would classify this as easy listening, its basically mellow rock.
Oh man this song has many memories for me as well. Miss Bell who lived the next street over would be blowing up her radio sweeping her porch, call me over and say "baby" go over to the store and get me a strawberry kiss give me a dollar and tell me keep the change. I love Miss Bell to this day. RIP Miss Bell. Thank you guys so much for bringing back Miss Bell to my mind As always stay safe and I love you
They were my favorites back in the day. I saw them three times in concert. The second time England Dan and John Ford Coley opened for them. I just love Dash's mandolin playing. The two times I saw them in downtown Chicago, after the concert, they handed out booklets (I still have mine) and talked about their Baha'i faith. Then they invited anyone who wanted to to join them to go to the Baha'i Temple in Wilmette. I recommend some lesser known songs of theirs, "Windflowers", "The Boy Down The Road" and "Follow Me", but you can't go wrong with any of their songs.
It was covered by the Isley Brothers in the 70's, one of their biggest hits. It's on the album 3+3 i seem to recall.
Seals and Crofts had a couple of HUGE years there for a while. You heard their songs EVERYWHERE. Really takes me back to a kinder, more appreciative time...
Also, no one ever seems to notice the little toy piano playing along with the riff!
This song is my all time favorite song of all time! The songs they made just put you at ease! I swear, listen to their music and you blood pressure will come down! Their music was special !
RIP Jim Seals! One of the best duos with some of my all-time favorites. We May Never Pass This Way (Again) is probably my favorite. I'll Play For You, Diamond Girl, Hummingbird, and King of Nothing you should check out.
The Isleys had a memorable version and set the standard for them especially for R&B but Seals and Crofts music stands on its own. They have other great tunes i.e. Diamond Girl, We may never pass this way again, Hummingbird... to name a few 💜
Seals & Crofts could definitely hang with the R&B/Soul crowd. A great example of this is their song "Get Closer," which I know y'all would love (please react to it lol). I also love "Diamond Girl."
dash crofts' counter-harmonies to dan seals' lead vocals is what makes this song special. there are many wonderful soft-rock '70s songs but it's this plus the full-flush group harmony in the last verse that are ecstatic and bring tears. EVERY. TIME.
i simply never tire of this song ❤
This song instantly takes me back to my home growing up as a kid in Iowa. The “summer breeze” I think of is coming through the window of my bedroom while I’m drifting off to sleep, not a care in the world! There’s so much of this song that takes me back!
“See the paper layin' on the sidewalk”. “So I walk on up to the doorstep
Through the screen and across the floor”. This reminds me of bounding out our back screen door and hearing Mom holler, don’t let that door slam, as it always did! “And I come home from a hard day's work
And you're waiting there”. This reminds me of my Dad greeting Mom after work! This is probably my second favorite song of all time. First is More Than A Feeling!
This song always makes me think of summertime and driving down the East Coast by the water... and not having a care in the world. I wish I could go back to those happy easy times!
"We may never pass this way again" should be next
Acoustic guitar and Mandolin. Superb harmonies. Great songwriting.
I think they sort of started as folk artists, and became more singer-songwriter pop or light rock later on, with a little jazz influence...
It's been years since I've heard that song. Growing up they always had this song playing at the pools. So relaxing.
This song is a great example of how some of those hip hop/rap artists have a real ear for blues, jazz, r&b, and classic rock in their sampling.
Very popular song and duo played all the time on FM radio. The style is soft rock/ pop in a very nice way!
They were one of my favorite groups in the 70s. This is covered by the Isley Brothers. Their version is amazing as well. Ernie Isleys guitar riff is outstanding.
Jim Seals and Dash Crofts were from Texas. They were members of The Champs (of "Tequila" fame) in the late '50s and early '60s. Jim Seals is the brother of Dan Seals, who was "England Dan" in the duo England Dan and John Ford Coley. They had several hit songs in the '70s. It would be great if you reacted to more Seals & Croft and dive into England Dan and John Ford Coley who also had several hits.
First of all...Congrats on hitting 200K🙌🎊🎉 It is well deserved! You two are awesome!!
Enjoyed your reaction to Seals and Crofts. Always loved this song and like you said BJ, it has that summer time vibe. Also, Seals and Crofts were considered a soft rock, pop rock band. As others have mentioned, The Isley Brothers did a cover of this and it's really nice. Very soulful. You should react to it also. And again Congrats on a well earned achievement!👏👏
Thank you so much!!
@@AsiaandBJ You're welcome!!
Easy listening..... They are a big part of my childhood.... They just make me 😁.... Glad you enjoyed them! Love ur take and reactions!! ❤️
This song is the essence of my memories of growing up in the 1970s...fragrance of the flowers in my mom's backyard, dinners in the kitchen, hanging out with my friends and sisters, riding my bike, walking to the park! SO many sweet smells and sounds of summer saturate my soul! Mom's warm hugs and sweet smells from the kitchen, wafting through the screen door! Carefree days of June, July, August and September! That's the true spirit of Summer Breeze! Classic! 😃💮
Hadn't heard about him passing away till I saw these comments. So sorry to hear it. Always loved their music.
Absolutely one of my most fave songs , brings up nostalgia as a kid feeling free over summer break no cares in the world
Another great song from the greatest decade of music=1970's
I grew up listening to this stuff . A kid in sixties and seventies and it is still crazy awesome.
they are considered 70's pop music, great great singing duo, they have absolutely incredible music , check them out, Asia, you'll love their music, R.I.P. Jim Seals
Yes, “pop music” is an adequate description. I’ve heard it also classified as “yacht rock” and plain old “easy listening.”
This classic plays a lot in grocery stores and…you’ll hear people singing it.
Check out Hummingbird, King Of Nothing, and We May Never Pass This Way Again by Seals and Crofts.
My X and I went to about 5 or 6 Seals and Crofts Concerts during the mid 1970's. Loved them.. They were country singers early country rock
This could probably fall into a few different genre categories... soft rock, singer/songwriter, California rock, yacht rock... Jim Seals' brother, Dan, is part of England Dan and John Ford Coley, another rock group.
The late Jim Seals was a brother to "England Dan" Seals, who was part of England Dan and John Ford Coley. That's another "Easy Listening" group you guys could get into.
First concert I ever went to was Seals and Crofts. With Harry Chapin (Taxi) and Michael Murphy (Wildfire) as openers. Seals and Crofts went on around 11 or so and played till 1. $4.75 for 4 hours of great music.
- Music genre: "soft rock"/"easy listening".
- There are many beautiful Seals & Crofts songs!
- Enjoy :)
So good…..Glad I was there, and I wish this music was with us again..
Love the great harmonies of Seals & Crofts. They were an American soft rock duo who had a lot of great songs in the 70's such as "Diamond Girl", "Get Closer", "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)", "Hummingbird", I'll Play For You", "Castles In The Sand", "You're The Love" etc. Sadly Jim Seals passed away last month.
I remember at my oldest brothers high school graduation in 1975, we were in Okinawa, my Dad’s 20 years in the Air Force was almost over, and our 3 year stay in Okinawa was almost over, to go back to the states, which many families did every year . At his graduation all of the senior grads sung Seals And Croft’s We May Never Pass This Way Again” , it was so beautiful and on point , and it still made me think to this day of all of the families that have come to Okinawa and gone over the last 50 years or so…
This was their first hit. They had 3 or 4 others, but I always liked the second, Hummingbird. The third, Diamond Girl, is also good.
Have always loved their music.
His younger brother “England Dan” Seals of “England Dan & John Ford Coley” who made “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight” passed away in 2009 at age 61.
A New Orleans native here and big Saints fan -- what's up with the Saints cap , BJ ? You a fan ?
Yay or nay , props for the cap. Geaux Saints !!
A giant congratulations on reaching 200 thousand subscribers . You guys have become adopted family members to many people.
We love you both . Here's to many more years of reactions .
Seals and Croft were a 70's powerhouse. Diamond Girl and We May Never Pass This Way Again are two of my favorites. You've never heard the Isley Brothers Brothers cover of this? A black folks spring/summer standard! Definitely on the cookout playlist! Erie Isley's guitar work on this is incendiary! You should react to the Isley's version too!
You guys are hitting some good songs today. I am enjoying them. They were considered soft rock in the 70s. Dash Crofts played mandolin on this song. It is a unique sound.
Hey Asia and Bj. Don't know if you'll see this post. I'm nearing 64 and this is the music I grew up with. Many songs of the 70's we were lucky enough to hear them the first time played on the radio. Sitting down by the river or cruising with friends through downtown. Such precious memories.
GREAT song! I've always LOVED this and them!💖
This is one of those soft rock AM radio gems that defined my childhood before hard rock entered my life. I had a little clock radio that sat on the windowsill by my bed where I heard Summer Breeze, Brandy, Take It To The Limits, Do It Again, and so many other songs that my friends were starting to call "bubblegum." Within a couple years it was Alice Cooper and Led Zeppelin, etc. But I heard an interview recently with David Bowie's female bass player. Guess what her favorite music is (because of the soundscapes and production values)? The soft music of the 70's, such as this. Beautiful stuff.
I am a long time fan of Seals and Crofts, I think it is folk pop, bits of an R&B feel.
LOVE this song.! Always brings to mind warm summer sunshine and reflecting glints on the water. I also love the ways Seals and Crofts utilized a plinkety children's toy piano effect into the mix. I've never heard any other band or artist do the same. Do check out their other hits. :)
I have two all time, forever favorite songs. This one & "Easy" by the Commodores. Thank you for this one!
What unbelievable memories this music brings back. They were a part of our lives, our young adulthood❤❤❤
Best two part harmony since Simon and Garfunkel.
I remember this song on the radio playing while my aunt made summer pies and they were cooling in the window. Custard, peach, strawberry and plum.
Brings me back to summer BBQs, swimming in my uncle’s pool. Life was so simple and I didn’t have a care in the world. ❤️
Jim Seals was the brother of Dan Seals, England Dan, of England Dan & John Ford Coley. Dan went on to a successful country music career, but died of cancer in 2009. The Seals brothers weren't from England- they were from Texas.
Soft Rock from the 70's Love this kind of music. ❤️
this song makes me feel like im swinging in a hammock on the front porch with a nice breeze rocking me back and forth and all is right with the world
East Of Eden was another great song by Seals and Croft.
One of my all time favorite songs.
Seals and Crofts as well as The Isley Brothers released Summer Breeze and sang it very well. But Seals & Crofts released it first in 1972, claiming to #6 on the Hot-100. The Isley Brothers followed it up with pride in 1973, #60 on the Hot-100 and 10th on the R&B chart! I love both of versions. The takes are different...but the true essence of the song is captured very well!
Great song....
and will always remember it from my youth.
It's legend.
They were also in an earlier band called the Champs. They had a very popular instrumental song known as "Tequila"
always loved them!
Back in the day this was considered soft rock or MOR, Middle Of Road. Radio was so better then as it was so diverse.
I had their album & played it to death but had forgotten all about them until you reacted to this song. Thank you for bringing it back to my mind. I echo the others recommending Diamond Girl & We May Never Pass the Way Again. Top notch songs & harmonies.
It immediately transported me back to the summer of 72--long lazy walks on a Long Island summer evening, just soaking in things around me. The Isley Brothers covered it later and did it justice.
You can picture the stories they tell. Thanks for the memories!
Classic Soft Rock!! California Summer Breeze in the evening summers of the 70’s!!
Great song that brings back memories
Such a great, feel good song. Thanks for doing this one guy's!!! Brings back a lot memories. Closing my eyes and listening.
