There’s our F59PHI locomotives from Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner in Southern California and Amtrak Cascades in the states of Oregon, Washington, and parts of Vancouver, Canada....if only Amtrak still kept at least one or two of these in service...I really love those locomotives and when they would lead trains from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara to Los Angeles and San Diego I’d always love seeing them leading the trains on the surfline and their K5LA horns sounded just as beautiful as they do here with their new owners Chicago Metra in the state of Illinois....it’s a good thing they didn’t scrap them...unlike Metrolink’s solitary F40PH 800....but great video man!!!! I hope to one day catch Amtrak’s F59PHI locomotives with Metra.... :)
Metrolink F40PH #800 Used to be Amtrak F40PH #396
Amtrack
I want to see one as a cabbage
Amtrak has a few still!
@@parkermccormack2542 why couldn't metrolink give their ex amtrak f40s to metra if metrolink were to abandon their f40s to rust they should've given them to metra who would be happy to take in the f40s
Wow, 463 and 454's new horns sound amazing!
463 is currently oos
463’s K5LA is still fantastic! One of the few K5LA’s on F59s that sound good.
It wasnt always that way, that's a new horn
At The Crossing
Ahhh I miss those F59's nice video Spencer!
That ACE sounded amazing
Very nice catches! I caught METX 77 and 84 back in July at downtown Chicago. I do miss these good old guys from the Surfline!
You know what I caught 3 metras f59phi ones 2 times when I see the metra f59phi 84 in Fox Lake ones in Morton Grove in Morton Grove that me and my dad got off the train because there was a constructive metra train who fixes the tracks due the last year's 2017 and in 2017 the Metras MD N line are having a track construction for 7 days in 2017 that we got on the Metras UP NW line well we're waiting for a train I got a loudest Horn show in the world while the Metra MD N who is between fox lake and the city having a 7 days of track construction
2:50 that f59 sounded like a siemens charger
SC-44?
Yay first time of metra 86 ex amtrak surfliner 463
Nice catch on your video this is what keeps me coming back to the Chicago Aria!
3:18 best one
What 5tpe of horns are on those style engines for metra?
Man, love them F59PHIs so bad, that two-stroke sound is so unique.
Spencer, if you see metra f59 #80, take a picture, that was my beloved surfliner 457
so many mornings i woke up to a surfliner passing by my house, sadly i haven’t lived there for a few years.
5:30 thats the best paint scene métra owns!
I got to see 467 a couple of times. Man, she is gorgeous!
I wish there cars were more inventive though oppose to straight metal
Um, no
Yes
It’s a Heritage unit now it’s painted yellow
Man those horns tho!
Nice catches Spence!
God I miss the F59PHI's... Seeing them trundle around through Portland and hearing them in the distance from my childhood home. SO much nostalgia. At least Amtrak's keeping the F40PH's as unpowered units.
Awesome Video! Keep up the great work!
That F59PHI Roar gotta love it
Some awesome catches there
Came here after the sad news that Keke Palmer got hit by a metra train
The way the K5LAs sound on the F59phi is a particularly great sound. The precise physical placement of the horn on the locomotive gives it a very particular muffled sound. Much like a mute on a trombone.
very very nice video! thank you!
At 6:30 That’s the train I filmed yesterday.
I love that Amtrak engine that turns into a metra
6:11 I just noticed the RS2M on that cab car.
What the heck is an RSM2?
It’s the horn on that cab car. A Leslie RS2M is what Metra used on their cab cars in the 80s-90s.
What do can cars use now
@@ryans4116 They use K3LAs (some of them were K5LAs but they had the 3a and 5 bells taken off).
@@alexpaumen3937 what does the long slick one use and the f59. How about the f40
the classic F40 at speed was still awesome even though the F59s had epic horns.
I like the New Metra locomotive train it looks like the Amtrak Surfliner F59PHI Locomotive.
Because it is. The surfliner got rid of all of their f59phi's and gave them to Metra to replace them with sc44 chargers
Because it is the F59PHI
Because this could be a joke, but maybe not, I’ll give a like either way
It is. Amtrak gave them 21 of their cars.
I still miss the F59PHI but at least there still in good use
Great footage
The SD70MACHs will be the next big thing. In fact, they will be the first six-axle passenger locomotives since the F40C (not counting the SD70MACs of Alaska Railroad).
Awesome video
The Pacific Surfliner is the parent of the F59PHI's and they moved out of the house and moved in with metra
its about time!
Nice to hear 463’s horn again
Good job dude
I miss my F59PHi engines! Give them back!
Also, it will be interesting to see Metra trains being hauled by six axle engines once their SD units come in.
We all do, but due to the California’s Strict emissions standards, the SC44 Chargers is what they want and now we have them.
Colin's Playmobil channel wish EPA never existed and we will still have f59phs and yeah
Colin's Playmobil channel also I wish we never had strict emission standards
Awesome thumbnail dude!
Ex Amtrak Surfliner F59PHI
These are all some amazing horns here. There's a reason I hate that the UTA FrontRunner here has their entire line a Quiet Zone...
Same
I want horns
The cab cars have no horn
They actually do. They're a mysterious unknown type of Leslie 2-Chime mounted behind the Conductor's Side of the Front Plow.
These are the trains of my district I am currently sitting at the train station
Greetings from, Chicago.
Bro your the best and I went to a train station on Tuesday afternoon and it was very very very very loud and than we got our grandma right after the train stopped
Three questions. Do you know any way to tell horns of trains. Do you know how to track freight trains and is there a place you know what engine will be on metra
Well done
I was in the cab of MP 36 ph 405 At Franklin Park railroad days 2019
You should take a look at Metra 79 which is Amtrak 456 in the proper Metra Rail Scheme.
I’ve seen it. Was hoping to get it, but no luck of course
@@spencerhughes2255 where? In the yard?
@@spencerhughes2255 its now out but instead of it being on the Milwaukee districts & NCS Its on the Union Pacific lines along with a few others.
The new Amtrak is doing just fine all the horns are new and it looks so much cleaner but I still miss them in California
Ex Amtrak F59PHIs, Canadian Pacific, Metra F40PHs. Maybe I Should Visit Illinois in the Future 🙂
Cool. Ride that line regularly.
3:10 u gotta love the locomotive right there
110 awesome horn
Ever since I was little boy, I love the design of F40PH locomotive, After they are amazing 😉, I love passenger trains like Amtrak and commuter trains like Metra of Chicago and CalTrain of San Francisco! I glad Metra uses old Amtrak F40PH locomotives and CalTrain of San Francisco as well!
However Caltrain has been electrifying there rail lines and when the final phase of that project is done the Caltrain F40PH and gallery cars will be retired
@@maas1208 I heard about that my guy.
Have you shot trains in wisconsin
Wow the f59phi are with a Metra now ☺
Yes they are
Yes. I wanna ride one
@@ryans4116Sure You can ride one you earn it
Gonzalo Moran j live in Chicago so if I ever go on a Metra I Hope is is the F59PHI. In fact I was driving yesterday and saw one
@@ryans4116 ok nice job
405 has a beautiful horn
A lot to miss from this video
90 and some others now run on the UP lines
90 as a heritage unit luckily
79 is a lightning bolt that is replacing 160
86 is currently OOS though if it gets scrapped it is getting replaced by an existing F40 to run on the UP lines which I entirely doubt
74,76,79 and 83 are still alive for returning as the retired -2s get their parts back but sadly the rest are away from the MD lines + NCS
There were rumors about 168 having its parts back until early march it has collapsed and this means 82 won’t return to MD and NCS
Can remember a few of the EMD F59PHI’s from the different sounds of the horns
Never change the trains their unique in the Chicago areas!
非常好的示範。
I miss Surfliner :(
Do these trains carry people or just cargo? Im not American so im curious
Andrea Marley , only people
@@michaelglass4701 Thank you.
It is a people train. It also is double decker
Cascades #470 I believe is in North Carolina
imma miss the old diesel train i rode on with Surfliner
Move to Chicago then if you want to these F59PHI again or at least visit Chicago
Any nostalgia from the f59? They came from the Surfliner so I wouldn’t be surprised if you do.
A little, I guess. I’m 30 years old now, been seeing those exact engines run since I was about 8. I’m also coincidentally in the Chicago area a lot as well.
RIP KEKE PALMER
Are these the old surfliners?
The F59PHI’s are the old Surfliner & Cascade engines.
@@spencerhughes2255 I wonder if the capital corridor and piedmont F59PHIs will be used on Netra or some other railroad will aquire them after retirement on Amtrak
Is this the location of the 1995 bus accident???
Yep that where the bus was stopped by the red traffic light
@@eddieespinoza827 wrong that was fox river grove this is diffrent
@@ryans4116 you mean the location of the Fox river grove had a traffic light that stop the bus and the railroad crossing that the train wrecked into the bus in nineteen ninety five and where the gas was located
@@eddieespinoza827 yup
@@ryans4116 ok thanks for the información
They literally took the f59phi from Amtrak and slapped on the Metra logo wtf
Honestly, one side of me says give California their Surfliners, but another side of me says they look pretty good on Metra. Lets vote!Like = Give Amtrak Surfliner locomotives back.Comment saying "Let Metra Keep It" = Let Metra keep F59 locomotive.
Metra needs or should've keep the original number. I don't like how Metra renumbered their then units
Spencer you still in Chicago?
Negative
@@spencerhughes2255 you in California?
@@MetxsightseerRailfan Spencer's state California is on number 3 after oregon number 2
Are those the old surf liner locomotives
They are the old surfliner and cascades locomotives. They now use Siemens chargers
some of metra’s f59’s were from amtrak, we will respect them till they are dead
Those F59s should have P5s so they sound more like Metra and less like Capitol Corridor
also why are cascades units also painted like surfliners
Nathan Zhang the F59PHI came from the surf liners
what is # 405
The Milwaukee Road heritage unit
😊😊😊😊😍😍🤩
I think #77 used to be #455. 455 had the freshest horn
78 is 455
Last time I saw 463 (on the cascades) it sounded like garbage
why are old amtraks now metras?
Amtrak want to retire their f59phi with the newer siemen chargers
That 107's horn sounds a bit squeaky
So does the 402
107 is fouled
402 is using a p5 (not surprising) when mp36's uses p5 they'll be squeaking
@@YaBoiKnox Thank you for the clarification! I'm new to the whole railfanning scene, I've got a lot to learn
John Knox I personally would rather the MP36 locomotives stick with K5LA’s.
Metra 1 off day of the hour
Metra 120 meets matra 77
Wena broo Amtrak Metra
Metra 89 sounds like 463
Metra four-hundred-five
Is that a Amtrak
Those f59phis are from amtrak, they just got transferred to metra due to the new train sc44 charger
Metra 86
2.1M/10
Metra should’ve got seimens chargers, emd f125, mp54, brookville bl36ph. They should not be using used locomotives
They can't afford the Siemens chargers and EMD F125 and besides the F125 are a pain in the ass to repair so much so that metrolink had bring back their F59 locomotives in service however metra could be able to convert their existing MP36PH-3Cs into MP40PH-3Cs or MP54ACs locomotives.
F59PHI are taller than Metra's Mp36ph-3c
Metra stole A Amtrak Surfliner to make a new Metra train
SonicGamingTv2019 Official Channel no Amtrak got rid of them because they got new train and metro took them

River grove and fox river grove are 2 different places and VERY far apart
sorry Fox river grove there sorry about the error im just a kid i forgot but i know alot about trains
@@YaBoiKnox but thx for telling me that
@@dianamunoz2623 it's ok
Metra 8516
The livery on the f59 phi doesnt look as good as when it was on the surfliner. The Metra livery must looks really messy. Metra needs to make a whole new livey to their entire fleet
hate how people walk on the tracks 6:34
Metra 110
Metra 90
Amtrak still has F59PHi’s which operates on Amtrak’s NCDOT commuter trains in North Carolina and Amtrak even owns F59PH’s that operates on the NCDOT commuter trains.
Listen spencerhughes2255 railfanner 124 had stole some of ur videos
