      2003 F350 6.0 liter. Not sure on the bumper. I bought the truck with 125000 miles on it and it has a no-name bumper. If I remember correctly someone in the comments identified what type it is, but I haven't confirmed it.

Also, I don't know if it still is on sale but I got this winch $80 discounted which made it cheaper than the 9.5k winch I was gonna purchase. Might as well go bigger. Plus, I could always get the 9.5k winch if it goes on sale and put this on my '99 F350.

    Yeah, it looks real good on your Ford 4 sure. You outta get you some Long Straps to hook to a tree or something And, get yourself a 3 ton "Single Sheave for Regular Wire Rope Blocks" This way (in case you didn't know this) you can "DOUBLE" the pulling strength of your winch. I used to have 1 of these with my winch on a CJ5 Jeep and it saved my butt several times

    • @JohnHarmon
      @JohnHarmon  7 лет назад +6

      I know it is overkill, but I picked up 3 Warn snatch blocks (17.6K lbs), 4 - 7/8" d rings (13K lbs), a 20' tow strap (30K lbs), 2 - 8' tree savers (30K lbs), a 20' snatch strap (35K lbs), and a receiver hitch shackle (11K lbs) and some gloves. Spent as much on all of that stuff as I did the winch. They tuck nicely behind the back seat of the truck. Nice things is if I ever sell the truck/winch, I can keep all of that stuff for the next vehicle.

    Now buy yourself a can of wire rope lubricant oil and hose the wire rope down.
    Next get a nice neoprene rubber cover for it to cover when not in use."I found one on Ebay made by "Mile marker" , who cares what it says. Badland does NOT offer any kind of cover for it. Done get the cheap ones , they won't even last a year.
    I have this exact winch on my GMC 1500 Sierra and love it.
    I have mine set up with the removable cradle and 175 amp connectors from NAPA , a front mounted receiver hitch , #2 gauge battery supply to the connectors in the front grille and also to the rear bumper.
    I did add the second battery and larger alternator under the hood of the truck to help with long extended pulls and not kill the batteries.
    I can move mine around front to rear and also on the car trailer with appropriate receiver tube welded on that.
    I use the locking receiver tube pins so it doesn't get stolen. I can also remove it entirely if needed and store it.
    The circuit breaker assembly got mounted inside of an outdoor grey plastic electrical box and blank cover from Lowes and put it near the winch so it is always with the winch.
    I also added the remote controller for that winch so I can be anywhere when I run it.
    Harbor Freight has a nice heavy snatch block for sale also , I got 2 of those and from other sources ; some tree saver straps , some nice lifting/winch straps for full rated loads or better , heavy duty clevises and other bits and pieces as needed.

    You should use a battery just for the winch.

    you think it will be enough power ro pull a wrecked car with no tires onto my tilt bed trailer?

    • @JohnHarmon
      @JohnHarmon  6 лет назад +1

      I would think so, but you might want to add a snatch block or two to double or triple the pulling power

    • @JohnHarmon
      @JohnHarmon  6 лет назад +1

      best torque is with most of the line out (only about 4 wraps around the drum when you start to pull)

      is it really 12000 pounds thougth?

    • @JohnHarmon
      @JohnHarmon  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, otherwise it would be false advertisement and they would be sued. I am sure it is even more than 12K, as they build in a little bit of leeway. Pulling a wrecked car with no tires onto a trailer would be difficult, but it can do it, especially if you use a snatchblock or two. With one snatch block you cut the load in half. You do have a duty cycle to worry about though.... 30-45 seconds on under load, and then you have to let it cool 15 minutes; otherwise you risk burning up the motor

      @@Bluelightbandit I have this same winch that I use on my car trailer. Its a beast. I can pull heavy SUVs up the tilt on my car trailer from inside while i steer it on.
      ive also used it mounted to my hitch reciever to pull a vehicle up a hill that i couldnt make it up with my truck pulling the trailer with the car on it.

    this is the only video i can find of someone installing this winch on a truck front. everyone else seems to be putting them on receiver mounts or trailers. i still am looking for a video of a bumper mount because i dont have any brushguard etc... in front. the universal mount from harbor freight for this winch does not show how to mount the mount lol. guess i will have to take it to a shop. nice truck by the way.

      FixedByDoc . com I also purchased this winch with the universal mount. The mount is very heavy duty. I had to customize the frame alittle and the mount but I was able to install it behind the front bumper and valence. I also had to extend the farelead out a few inches with washers and a heavy sleeve and large grade 8 bolt so the rollers stuck out a little just under the bumper.
