After watching a 10 minute test, you should definitely give these a chance. You're not a tour player, its not like posting a few bad scores while you get used to them will cost you your Nike sponsorship or something. Viewers will love watching you try to change and if it doesn't improve your game after say 3 months just go back to your old grips. Its a win win. I'd personally love to see you embrace such a dramatic change and watch your struggle with them. Watching you struggle with the ups and downs of golf is why we LOVE your channel ❤

Everyone makes the mistake of going XL with jumbomax. Rick should be trying the size small in jumbomax. Their small is still 2 sizes bigger than a golf pride size jumbo. and everyone makes the mistake of getting the tour which is like 40g heavier than a GP jumbo.

Get a GRIP FITTING. You can't just choose the XL and expect it to work, the same way you can't just choose a extra stiff shaft and expect it to work.

As an older golfer with arthritis in the hands, the jumbo's have absolutely made my game easier. Not your issue of course. Meanwhile as a slicer, I actually have found that the jumbo's helped me go straighter as I am more relaxed and don't tense up now, and with tensing my right hand would get too involved and would open my face at impact.

Rick I am a slicer, especially with my driver. I changed to golfpride mcc+ jumbo grips on my driver and woods a couple of years ago. I don't have that slice like I used to. So I changed to jumbo grips on all my clubs this year (golfpride mcc+) and am hitting every club straighter than before. I also feel like I have more control when chipping and wedge shots. Love the jumbo grips. Keep puting out the great content. One piece of advice, stay out of your head when you are trying to break 75. You are your own worst enemy when it comes to overthinking a shot. Do the explanation then clear your mind and swing without thought. Have a great day.

Pretty sure the green version decreases swing weight (it's a heavier grip). The Ultralight series keep swing weight generally the same.
Other considerations are the other sizes. Most go XL to match Bryson, even XL is big for the jumbomax line.

    • @blakebarone1809
      @blakebarone1809 Месяц назад

Exactly. The ultralights are in the 55 gram range I think. Not gunna move the swing weight too much. Bizarre you can have a golf pro put the regular ones on and not add a few slabs of lead tape. That’s moving a D4 club to D0.5

An extra vids channel doesn't mean slap anything together and call it a day. Video topics can be narrow in scope, but this is coming from a golf pro. One that probably knows a thing or two about basic golf fitting.

Hey Rick, you should revisit this, and some of the comments you made about the grips. They have a lot of product lines with all different sizes, weights, and tapers. I would highly recommend it to every golfer. I have never had a right to left ball flight. Most of my life I have had a slice be my miss. I have been using Ultralite XS for months and the improvement in consistency is amazing. I switched to them because of wrist pain, which immediately went away after the switch.

  • @swankthegoat1407

Rick, these grips fix the slice because it encourages you to pull the club with the left arm since it has the most contact feel on the club when gripping it. Because I have very limited shoulder mobility due to injury in baseball, I have to rely on lots of ground and hip rotation to power my swing. The difference between a hook and a slice is the hand the has most pressure or force through contact. Hooks/draws come from more left hand force and hand play through the swing while fades/slices are from more right hand force and hand play. If you don't believe me, try it next time on the range. Hit 5 balls by using your left arm/hand during the downswing and then hit 5 balls using your right arm/hand during the downswing. I too have magical hands and trust me sometimes they get a bit too magical and I start hitting shots I do not like on the course.

I switched to the Jumbomax grips about 6 months ago with great success. Like you, I was very handsy and tended to snap it left. I was also suffering from pain in my hands and wrists. The big grips resolved both of those issues. There was a little bit of a learning curve. The biggest thing I learned was that I needed to reduce my grip pressure significantly. In fact, I sometimes play without a glove and it seems easier.

I've played around with these off and on for the past 3 years. As a former slicer, I can tell you that it can be beneficial. I found that it forced me to keep the face more square for longer. I also found that for some reason, personally, they made me feel like it was impossible to hit a fat shot. The only thing I couldn't play them on was wedges. For the more creative shots, I felt that it took my hands out of it too much. Great video, as always, Rick.

Had a JumboMax Tour Series Standard Oversized (+1/16) on my 8 irons for 2-3 weeks and it felt better than all my other irons, so I made the switch this weekend for all my clubs (Driver, fairway wood, hybrid, irons and wedges). I just shot my best round ever (it may be a coincidence), but those grips feel so nice and make my swing easier and smoother. My advice: try it on one of your irons (like the one you hate the most, that's what I did) and if you love it after, it might be a sign to change

I’ve had these grips for ages on my driver and wedges and they’ve helped so much. I have a XL-2XL glove size for reference but… I have the ultra lite grips in large on my wedges and the str8 tech grip in medium on my driver.
You need to be careful with which type of grip you get whether it’s the str8 tech, ultra lite or the tour grip because they have completely different masses and can change your swing/ ball flight shape more than you think if you go to an extreme grip change. The ultralite has extremely similar masses to 'normal grips', str8 tech is slightly heavier and the tour grip is even heavier than that.
Took Rick a while to eventually get round to reviewing these grips though 😂.

Rick, they make an ultralite which won’t affect swing weight ( same weight as a standard grip around 50g ). They also make different sizes. They have a fitting tool for it. Plus your delivery will change. Lie angle will change as well. Get the right size Jumbomax grips then loft and lie on irons, then maybe different loft face angle on driver and woods. I think these could then be great for you.

You adjusted to those grips very quickly Rick. Impressive! I made the switch to JumboMax a few months ago, and I'm very pleased with them. My hands (long fingers) fit so much better and feel more stable on the club. And like you, my hands can get a bit too active through impact, leading to the tendency to hook the ball. Now I'm playing a fade off the tee, and I don't worry too much about hooking it the way I used to. Keep testing these grips out, Rick. They come in different thicknesses. The XL is the biggest. I actually did find that I was carrying every one of my clubs about 10-12 yards further than my usual carry distance with my regular grips. I did struggle with a consistent flight/shape, however. As someone who had the opposite struggle as you (bit of a slice from time to time 😂) I needed to use my hands more, and these did definitely restrict that, as you mentioned. Took the grips off and took some lessons to get a bit more shallow/inside, but considering switching back to these grips after I've gone through the swing changes. They were very comfortable, and I definitely could swing the clubs faster.

I think I can help people for reference.
I have gloves for hands. I have to buy 3XL gloves. Standard grips are not for me.
Even then, I play JumboMax Ultralite XS on my irons and XL on my woods. The XL helps me maintain a stronger grip while being more comfortable. As an ex-slicer of the ball, it helps me keep that at bay. I never sliced my irons, so I can play a smaller grip and be a bit more relaxed.
Heads up, as someone working on path and strength of grip, left is still VERY possible. As Rick said, you may need to be a stronger hitter in over to turn it over that much.
Realistically, these were made for me, and I can honestly say that still most people don't need an XL size in these. However, anyone whose tried my clubs feels awkward for 2 swings and then they realize it feels like a baseball bat or tennis racket, which will feel comfortable for many.
Try them out, but be warned, it's pretty expensive to fit the whole bag. I can say that from experience.

Hi Rick I had done the same on my Ping G430, I changed the grips to medium and added 3 strips of extra tape, I found that like what you said the club head was much lighter, I end up changing the head weight from 11g to 13 g which I found this balanced my club.
I've changed all the grips on my mizunos only double wrapped my irons, their far better now....cheers Derek...

I'm sold on these exact grips after trying them out since January. I started because I had bad arthritis pain in my right hand over the winter. It feels easier on the hands and you get more power just like was stated in the first part of the video. I don't think I'll ever go back to small grips. I did the large size in driver through pitching wedge and then in my two shortest wedges did the small size grip. They are perfect now

Rick you should get a fitting with the jumbomax grips. Martin Borgmeier did and he raves about them now. I did as well and got fit for the str8 tech tour wrap x small (3/16) grips and I will never look back!

I tried these on 1 club almost 2 years ago. After hitting a few balls I changed all my clubs over to the medium jumbomax tour. I had to because when I went back to standard it felt like I was gripping a pencil. So weird. One thing I’ve noticed performance wise is the ball launches a good bit higher.

Dear Rick. Faster clubbed speed is a fact. The ergonomics are such that more surface area able to be held at a more comfortable pressure allows the golfer to inject more energy to the club which in turn increases club head speed. It's pure physics. The caveat is that all energy inputs and energy outputs must remain identical across the board for all swings and that's not likely.

No modern day player has the same small hands people had 100 years ago, and yet golf grips are the same size.
Mid Size +4 has actually become quite popular on tour, and with 2-3 layers of tape under, it will feel a bit like a JumboMax

  • @haydenvoorhies1950
    @haydenvoorhies1950 21 день назад

The true benefit of the larger grips is opening your hands and allowing more surface area for your palms to prevent club turn in your hands, your also keeping the club more secure in your first and second pads on your fingers (which is where the muscles are). The added friction and ease of grip allows you to really lay into club head speed without loosing the club out of your palms. More like a hockey, baseball bat, or even an axe/hammer swing. The science suggests a more ergo grip= less white knuckle = shanks into the woods.

Standard Grips weigh in at 50-55 grams. Any larger grip will weigh more lowering the swing weight of the club. I have a 4 grip fitting display (undersize to jumbo) to get the right size fit for all customers. Older players or anyone with hand problems generally will be up sized from the "proper" grip size.

I am an avid golfer and love the game. I try to watch all your videos as they are great. My question is, I have always been taught that a fade is created by getting the club stuck behind you or dragging the club so the face doesn't shut. In this video you are saying just the opposite?

I have Jumbo max Tour Series "small" on my driver, 3 wood and 3 Hybrid. I wear "medium large" golf gloves. The grips have definitely helped my slice! I used to slice 30 or 40 yards and since I put those grips on (2 years) I sometimes slice 10 or 20 yards so a very definite improvement. On the jumbo grid site there is a grip fitter to help you find your right grip size which I used before ordering the grips. Mind you I think the Jumbo grips are not for everyone but you have to experiment with them, they also have different series of grips so its very important to my experience to use the grip fitting. . So you using the XL maybe to big for you, like i said previously I wear the same size as you do but the grip fitting told me to take the Tour Series Small size. Maybe you should order that size and make another video and see what difference the smaller grip does to your swing. Cheers! Mark from Montreal Canada.

If you were to give these jumbo grips a couple weeks in the bag, you would never go back to thin grips. Just in those few shots you took in the video, there were definite improvements in your striking. I encourage you to try them for a couple weeks and see how much you improve. God bless you bro!!

I can second what many comments are saying regarding the different sizes. I've been using the JMX Ultralite in Small for years and I really like them. I'm using an M/L Glove and the small ones just are the grips for me. Notably as a naturally born slicer they did not worsen my slice but rather helped me to control the face better.
However the biggest benefit for me was that I did not had any wrist pain anymore after playing golf which was a huge issue for me before.
Also the Ultralite ones pretty much keep the swing weight the same, so come on Rick, give them a try. There's so much more to these grips than you covered in this video 😃

I've been slicing about 15-20 yards and just last week a pro recommended to put lead tape under my grip to make the club head lighter. I stopped slicing it. I'm able to square up the face easily now. It didn't take much I believe about 3" of tape.

Also keep in mind that Bryson uses these on one length irons. So he is able to make the same swing with every club. There is no swing weight or offset differences throughout his irons. His set up and swing is the same on his PW as it is 5 iron

I’ve always struggled with squaring the club face and releasing. Two years ago I tried Jumbomax and it only made the problem worse. Now that I’m able to square and release the face alittle more consistently I would like to give them another try. Feel wise they are very comfortable and I always felt my hands/wrists/arms were more relaxed overall.

I use a size S JumboMax Lite, which is the same weight as a standard size tour velvet that doesn’t mess with swing weight. Once you learn to just relax the hands on the grip and let it swing, for me anyways, it was much straighter golf shots. My typical miss is a cut/slice as well and these throughout my set helped a lot

Getting rid of the hands in your swing will probably make you more consistent. Plus if your a slicer of the ball it might teach you to rotation properly and cure you of the slicing without making you snap hook. They take an adjustment period but overal probably make you more consistent.

I’ve got the jumbo str8tech model and love them. It did take me a little while to adjust with driver and FW keeping the face shut in the backswing so I wouldn’t over fade the ball. Irons went further straight away and straighter. I’ve got a hand injury so it allowed me to have a looser grip with no pain

If you want to keep the weight in the head, use the ultralite grips, I’ve had them for 3 years now and love them. I have big hands and use the XL but I fit in a large golf glove, medium large is too small. So I would imagine that you should be using the Large ultralites

Loved the review! It was quite the opposite for me. My miss has always been a slice. A lot of it comes down to technique. However, after switching from a standard to an oversized/jumbo grip, I am able to stabilize the club head through impact better.

My ball striking improved dramatically since going with larger grips and I’d argue most golfers would benefit from larger grips (midsize ideally but larger for some). In general they encourage better swing fundamentals because it’s tougher to compensate with the hands when using a standard size grip.

The larger diameter of the grips means a decrease in ability to twist the shaft. This reduces the handsy problem we all suffer from. I love my jumbo grips. They work. I will never go back to skinny grips.

I started with oversized grips on my driver and my 3 wood to help with some of the wear on my hands, after about 12 holes my hands would be destroyed with the standard grips and the oversized grips have helped alot. I will say that it took a complete rework of my swing and set up to get the ball to go left though, but it was worth it.

I switch from the MCC +4 standard grips to a full bag of MCC +4 JUMBO and will never go back. Immediately my dispersion tightened up and I got rid of any pull draws. My first 4 rounds with them were E, -3, E, -2. Seriously give them a shot they've got me back into scratch territory!
