Okay, good to know this is a film that knows it is goofy and silly, but in a way that feels sincere and full of effort and fun. Not to mention the cast looks incredible, and the director has never actually made a bad film, so I got a good feeling about this one.
This trailer is amazing and I can already guarantee the movie is gonna be a 10/10 just from this.. The director knows how nostalgic this story is and we are finally gonna get hit with a wave of great emotions from this one.
For some reason it kinda gave me an Edgar Wright feel to it. I know a lot of his elements aren’t there or even exist in the film but the bizarre element of a “ chocolate mafia “ that is trying to take Wonka down seems like something Edgar Wright would do, only way more crazier. The comedy also feels somewhat Edgar Wright too. Like the “ no daydreaming penalty “ and the “ a-huh “ joke. It’s definitely not even close to a Wright movie but it has somewhat of a feel to it, if that makes sense.
Wonka was absolutely phenomenal! The story, music, songs, cinematography, beautiful colorful sets, everything was top notch. Perfectly captured the magic of the Roald Dahl books. Timothée Chalamet stole the show as Willy Wonka. One of the best feel good movies I have seen in a long time. 🍫👏👏👏
I love how this is 100% a Christmas movie without being about actual Christmas. The outfits and whole aesthetic. Christmas was definitely the vibe they where going for!

this movie is totally gonna earn Timmothie Clement an oscar, sag, golden globe and brit award for best leading actor this award award season coming up, I'm sure of it
Honestly this is a good movie even when others seem to dislike it. It’s cute and it explains the way he is in the original and why he acts the way he does towards Charlie
I saw this at the cinema with my best friend Tom and both of us equally enjoyed it, the actors are fantastic (the man playing Willy Wonka is particularly good, he gave it his all, he is excatly how he is in the book), the music is beautiful in fact they even had a couple of songs from the original film and it explained how he came to be.
The fact that this was directed by the same guy who made Paddington Beae, and the fact that this feels like it has the same tone as the OG film, means that this will be an absolute incredible prequel. RIP Gene Wilder.
If Timothee Chalamet manages to enthrall the audience in this type of films then there's no stopping him. You need a certain edge to play a character as fantastical and whimsical as Willy Wonka.
Gene Wilder knocked it out of the park, Johnny Depp did a decent job but he never found that ball Gene knocked out of the park, lets see if Timothee can find it and bring it home ;p
i remember years ago ppl were saying how timothee and johnny could literally play father and son and should do a movie together or at least a sequel to a movie, look what we got lol
@@mr.mammuthusafricanavus8299loved them both as the character for different reasons. Depp's version was hilarious "This is the puppet hospital and burn center... It's relatively new." 😂 Can't wait to see Chalamet's take on the character. He has some big shoes to fill.
I cried at the end, not because of a happy ending, but because I've been watching Willy Wonka movie about aa hundred times and this sequel reminded me of my childhood
@manuelorozco7760 , hahaha...I love Johnny Depp but I really can't give you a review on that one because I haven't seen it in years 😅😅😅 I'll have to watch it again.
The ending made me so emotional. Realizing why sharing a special moment with someone was so important and having them there in spirit when he accomplished his goals was heart breaking and beautiful. This was like closure to my childhood even if I am an adult now.
I love how Timothee Chalamet is paying homage to both Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder when it comes to his take on Willy Wonka. So excited to see his full version of wonka, based on what I see in this trailer, he already is amazing!!!
As fascinating as this movie looks, I'm kinda sad that we'll likely never get a "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator" movie. I remember reading that book in school immediately after finishing "the Chocolate Factory" and had always wondered how it could be as a movie
Even though you're sad, I have a feeling a movie like that might be made someday. I mean, Alice: Through the Looking Glass happened (even if it failed).
On the one hand, it looks whimsical and lovely for a Christmas movie. On the other, and I might be the cheese that stands alone, I feel like Chalamet is not weird enough for the role - his lines fall flat to me. I love Chalamet so hoping the movie will change my mind. I'll watch if only for Grant as a oompa loompa, what genius casting!
@@morningivy think the plot is the rise of Willy Wonka and how he created his tasteful and wonderful chocolate and build his chocolate factory,we can say it's like a sequel to Charlie and Chocolate Factory
Only thing weird is how they took this in a more magical direction. Even adult Wonka hadn't perfected Fizzy lifting drink and all of his inventions had strange side effects. This younger Wonka seems too perfect.
Maybe him getting older is what caused the magic to fade and why his inventions had weird side effects. Which is why he needed to give his factory to a kid in the original movie. Just a theory obviously but that’s what I like to think.
I have said it before and I shall say it again: Jeff Goldblum as Wonka. But Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant and Mathew Baynton look very good in this movie.
Willy Wonka is actually selling his weird stuff and not just his chocolate bars. Respect to WB for going in a new direction rather than just the "I need a replacement for my chocolate factory" also I enjoyed the Harry Potter vibe from the setting, Wonka may not have been magical but his candy sure seems to be.
He's always sold stuff other than chocolate... everlasting gobstopers, the floaty soda, 3 course meal chewing gum. And i'm pretty sure in the real world Nerds is their best seller
honestly im very much surprised of how amazing this looks. it feels so magical and like such a wholesome movie, and its not a remake!! its a non canon prequel of one of the most magical and mysterious characters of lots of peoples childhoods (and its timothee chalamet, which i adore with all my heart hes so adorable)
I was always wondering how a prequel to willy wonka, describing his origin, would be like. Now, after seeing this, I am fully onboard now. This looks absolutely amazing. Can't wait to see this in theaters.
I was skeptical too given prequels usually don't work out and imho Charlie and the Chocolate Factory wasn't all that good compared to the OG but this is actually looking pretty interesting..
didn’t really think this was gonna be anything but this has captured the Roald Dahl vibe better than anything else I’ve seen since the original Chocolate Factory, plus its directed by the Paddington guy
Um, I agree that this looks great, but are you aware that Dahl actually hated the older Gene Wilder movie, largely because of how much they changed it without consulting him? The whole reason why it was called "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" rather than "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was at Dahl's request, to put as much distance between it and his book as possible. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Wilder film and again, this new one looks incredible, but imo the 2005 Burton film was more in keeping with Dahl's vision.
This smacks right dab in the middle of the other two movies with the original being on top of course, but it's still no small feat to surpass charlie and the chocolate factory. The songs and jokes are also great, extremely catchy and come with many different connotative meanings behind them. Overall 8.5/10
Okay, I haven't seen that many Timothee Chalamet movies, but he seems to smile a lot more here. It's good to see him expand his acting range. Looking forward to this movie.
I think the magic really fails when watching a movie with an actor that doesn’t change their appearance and looks the same as they did in their other movies. They didn’t do an Al Pacino Michael corleone into Tony Montana Scarface. Completely unrecognizable. But this just looks like “Hey it’s that guy from the movie Beautiful Boy dressed up as Willy Wonka” 🤷🏻
His range is that of a brooding snob. There is no weight in his word choice. The way he said "military" in his first minute of screentime in Dune would suggest he doesn't know how to emphasize that some words have more weight to them. "Absolutely insane" is basically the same. Granted he is trying in this one, but he feels a bit... restrained. I get an "Ed Wood selling his dream with a gun at his head" vibe from him. Film is going to be "meh".
@@maroonhorizon1693I’m so glad to see this comment. I loved Call Me By Your Name as a film but never understood the hype he was getting as an actor. It was made out he was the next big thing and I just couldn’t see it then or now. The actors that came before usually had to build up a big resume and prove their salts in different roles and at the box office before getting that kind of treatment.
After watching Dune 1, Dune 2, and Call Me By Your Name, and now thinking about watching this movie I've come to really enjoy Timothee Chalamets acting. He's a good actor, so even though this is a kidish movie or what I'm blindly assuming is one i know Timothee Chalamet will make it worth seeing even if it is a bit childish. Childish is often good in a lot of ways. I can't wait to watch it.
Remember seeing the original as a little kid when it first came out in theaters. Seen it countless times since. I begrudgingly ended up enjoying Tim Burton's version, particularly Danny Elfman's music. This one also looks promising. Should do well, I think.
Honestly I grew up on gene wilder and can’t see anyone else as wonka but Johnny did a good job but I didn’t particularly enjoy johnnys film. I just don’t see myself enjoying this that much unfortunately tbh.
This was a great movie, I loved Huge Grant as the Oompa Loompa, Roland Atkinson as the clergyman was an unexpected surprise, and Timothee Chalamet (even though I never heard of him) did a fantastic job as Willy Wonka, he really made the character his own. A very cool origin story I thoroughly enjoyed it, great visuals, acting, story, and soundtrack. You really got a visceral example of capitalism, greed, corruption, redemption, and justice. This stands alongside the 1971 original well.

Timothee proves himself once again to be a versatile actor that has so much to offer. He’s not this generation’s Johnny Deep or Leo. He’s the one and only Timothee Chalamet!
I never thought that I would be so excited watching this movie. It seems that I became a child again, my inner child had opened. It’s worth watching this movie especially when you watch it concurrently with your family❤
Rowan Atkinson's appearance alone is enough to let me know that this movie is gonna be great, and of course our boy Timothy will amaze us with his performance✨️
The Paddington production team and Chalamet sounds like a recipe for success right here, especially for the latter as Dune, Part 2 is also guaranteed to be a success!
I agree he's fantastic but something seems off in this film. Wonka is supposed to be perceived as a mysterious character. He's kinda come from nowhere and the viewer can't work out if he's good or bad. This film gives it all away and has made him all good. I guess it's not really TC's fault, more the production
@@westyboi1845I kinda disagree. The mystery of if wonka is good or bad is mostly solved in the original movie- when wonka gifts our main character the chocolate factory and we see that he is a good guy after all, he just wanted a good successor to put his trust in, and nothing bad happened to any of the kids.
Honestly I love how endearing and comfortable Timothee is in the role. It's like he amplifies the "feel-good" and whimsical tones of the film really well. I also like how they showed us that Willy Wonka struggles, without shoving it down our throats. Can't wait for this
@loaddropper7772 I would say that this is just a new rendition of the character, (which is great in my opinion), as opposed to a copy of the other two (especially different from the Willy Wonka played by Johnny depp)
He doesn't seem to fit the role at all. His "eccentric" acting looks noticeably forced here and sticks out. I like the actor, but the dude doesn't fit here.
I think this actually looks rather fun and I trust the makers of Paddington implicitly to handle this with care and integrity. That being said, this does feed even more into the idea that Hollywood is absolutely bankrupt of original ideas and creativity.
Stop. Just stop. It’s wonka time and he wonka’d all over the place. Truly one of the movie moments of all time. There, I did it for you. We get it. Morbius happened…
And his co star Simon Farnaby co writing it w Paul King (Simon also was in Paddington as a security guard, which he reprised in the Queen's Jubilee sketch, co-wrote Paddington 2 w Paul, and is possibly making a small appearance in Wonka too)
Timothée Chalamet is a phenomenal actor. I hope they show a devastated and torn side of him to keep the audience from thinking this is only a whimsical story
@@paulsmith9786 Even if true, convince us that's even a bad thing. There are plenty of "industry plants" in various forms of media who are still fantastic at what they do.

I was so ready to hate this movie. I've seen both movies as a kid more times than I could count, read the book so many times. But dang it I came out of this movie with a huge smile on my face, the music was so much fun, the choreography felt like a giant broadway show. There are so many great surprises in this movie if you go in completely blind. I'd say this comes closer to Roal Dahl's original text in spirit than the previous movies. They had this weird sense of darkness that I attribute to the filmmakers, the book had zany moments but never felt psycho. This felt like warm Christmas hug, like an old VHS tape you discovered on the attic on a rainy afternoon.
@@supertuesday600 Not really, it actually was pretty good. I was worried they were going to take an anti-capitalist spin on it with the way it began. But it ended up having a pro free market message to it.

Hopefully this hype will be well-deserved once the film comes out!
Funny enough the idea of a choclate cartel being the main villians for a Willy Wonka origin story is something I would see being in a Ronald Dahl story.
Just curious, but does your pfp mean something/have a connotation or is it just a fun sorta thing to match your name? It reminds me of the 4th Internationale Symbol.
The Tim Berton version was just too far removed from the original film. I realize it was actually more accurate to the book, but that's not how most people remember the story.

Wow this looks amazing! People were talking like it was going to be dark and gritty, instead it's whimsical, with dance numbers! This trailer totally changed my opinion on this movie. I can't wait to see it.
Wait until the end when he has to close off the factory from society.
I respectfully disagree. I think it looks awful.
@@HumongusAmongus Yeah, I'm glad I never heard it was gonna be dark and gritty, or I'd be even more disappointed with the trailer. It looks so... typical. And who asked for dance numbers? The Oompa Loompas are bad enough. And they chose the old model for them? Ugh.
@@BeeWhistler They kind of never really got the Look of the Oompa Loompas right.. at least based on the book and the PC world we currently live in would never stand for it.
Say you love dance numbers and the dance number haters will come out!
Timothée Chalamet as Wonka is the most graceful thing to exist ❤
I really miss these types of wholesome movies Hollywood used to make back then so much and I hope the Wonka movie don't disappoint 😊.

Same, it's a nice change to get a movie with this kind of energy since there's a lot of action films around. I mainly can't wait to see Wonka and the little girl interact since they already look like they have a cute sibling bond, and I know my heart will melt whenever they're both on screen.

Change the name to wanksta fr 💯💔
Wholesome???? Didn’t Wanka k*ll 5 kids in the original movie?
Wonka🥰💛🖤
Any Wokeness in this film? If not, I'll watch it! 🙏🙏🙏
@@supertuesday600 Not really, it actually was pretty good. I was worried they were going to take an anti-capitalist spin on it with the way it began. But it ended up having a pro free market message to it.
@@christopherbelanger6612 Thanks UK for being normal, instead of the sick woke USA. 👍👍👍
I love your comment! I felt exactly the same!!!
This film seems too perfect to be true. Starry cast all perfect for their roles, directed and produced by big names who created critically and financially successful films in the past few decades, and a timeless story that's still held dearly by children and adults alike around the world.
@@Azide.01 It’s actually meant as a play on numbers and words. 4Tifier is actually meant to sound out the word “Fortifier”
All the roles seem well casted except Wonka, who is a complete miscast
@@The4Tifier That makes sense lol considering the 4 is in a sheild. Thanks for clarifying/explaining lmao
This movie was amazing. Not a remake just simply how wonka before the factory story is fantastic
That cast is stacked!!! Also, this has a magical vibe compared to the Tim Burton version that has a tinge of eeriness to it which is good too.
The Tim Berton version was just too far removed from the original film. I realize it was actually more accurate to the book, but that's not how most people remember the story.
I miss Gene Wilder
@@nophoto2393mabye
I like the Johnny Depp movie
@@nophoto2393 Literally why. This isn't even based off Tim Burton's version.
"Everything good in this world started with a dream. So you hold on to yours." So beautiful. This movie will be magical 💖
Love this line
You know, I was initially skeptical of this movie when I first heard the premise. But it looks like a lot of fun, and solidly whimsical. Plus, the fact that the director of Paddington directed this movie definitely convinced me to at least check this movie out. Looks like it'd be fun to see in theaters too.
Oh Christ. "Solidly whimsical." This movie looks "solidly whimsical," folks. "Solidly whimsical!"
@@PleasantFellow ur reply made me wheeze so hard LOL. But let the poor guy use his fancy vocabulary man, he aint hurting no one 😂
@@Remel9555I do not agree. Because He don't seem like the Guy from beautiful boy. Because all the personality of the character is really different. And in this trailer he seems to have a different body language. Which is exactly his job
@@aegnor2102 He looks like the guy from dune or beautiful boy but with a different personality but still looks the same. I guess a better example would be seeing Christian Bale in American psycho, and then seeing the Batman movies. I think it’s hard to take serious the actor especially when he’s done some silly stuff in American psycho. But that’s just my opinion 🤷🏻
This is one of the few prequel movies that didn't make me dissapointed
With how fascinating Willy Wonka's backstory was in the movie I'm surprised it's taken 50 years to make a movie about it. Very much looking forward to seeing this!

I still think Gene Wilder is the definitive Willy Wonka but may he rest in peace, I'll give this movie a chance
Timothee seems to take his inspiration for the role almost entirely from Gene Wilder, if this trailer’s any indication.
@@TheBingusBongus I think this Wonka is meant to be a younger version of Gene Wilders version, also because of the orange oompa loompa's
@@TheBingusBongus It still looks very interesting, I'll check it out since I loved the original one and I thought the remake was decent.
I grew up with the johnny depp willy wonka so he's the definitive willy for me. Imagine he'll return as him 😭 i would cry
As long as it’s not depp
The opportunity to see Timmy dancing and singing already had me sold on the
movie, but this makes it look even more amazing than I'd imagined.
