Big fan of having ginger on thru hike. Really needed it in NY during my 2023 AT thru. Always have some with me on all hikes now. Hope everything goes smoothly for you on your CYTC!
I find it interesting you are going to carry the flip fuel. Had those been available in 2017, I would have spent a lot less on fuel on my AT thru. Every hiker box had partial canisters (which is obviously what you are planning on.) And I thought I knew everything there was to know about gear, but apparently not. I was not familiar with PD technology. Time for a new wall charger and cables. Good luck on your hike!
Get it Pegleg! Last I watched on 9Lives, you were out in that flash flood! I've got to catch up on your blog still! 😊 Be safe, be smart and enjoy every minute!!!! ~French Fry
When you complete this feat there should be a fantastic celebration. Imagine Forest Gump’s followers tracing your final footsteps or perhaps a big send off/welcome home at the airport. I have so much confidence in you that I can already see the end. BE SAFE and may the weather and fires be kind to you.
I just read you story in “The Trek”. So excited to watch you this year. Us Pennsylvania girls will be routing for you. Enjoy your last day off trail, Happy Nee Year! I’m so excited to watch your journey….
Inspiring, trailblazing stuff! I'll be living vicariously through your updates, as I'm sure many others around the world will be. CYTC is such an amazing life goal/challenge, stoked you're taking on something very few others would.
So excited to follow along! I'm hoping to attempt the same in 2027, but might be 2028 if my medical isn't resolved as quickly as I'm hoping. Good luck and have fun!!
Hey, Pegleg, we met on trail just as you entered Colorado on the CDT this year. Very excited for you with this big undertaking. Safe trails and good luck, can't wait to follow your journey!
Just met your channel today and was wondering if I can catch up a bit on your older videos from some of the older trails accomplished (if you documented them?) before I watch you on this next amazing journey? Good luck - you go girl!!!!!
2:48 is as far as I watched, just FYI Black Diamond makes a pair just as light. BD Carbon Z is 9.8 oz per pair at 120cm. Food for thought. I hope you accomplish your goal! Most of all, have a great time out there. I look forward to checking in on your journey from time to time. Happy trails!
Hey there! This is so cool! Will you be vlogging along the way? As a weekend backpacker, I’ve carried out more than my fair share of those empty stove canisters that people leave behind at the shelters on the Long Trail. I try to tell myself that it’s not thru hikers like yourself that does this but other irresponsible weekend warriors. Consequently, after voluntarily carrying these empty canisters out of the backcountry, I’m a firebox nano twig stove guy with a trangia alcohol stove as backup. Please, please carry out your empty stove canisters on your hike. Properly burying your turds and packin out stove canisters should be basic thruhiker etiquette. Take care, good luck and I look forward to following along! NQU
The platypus filter is so much better. I used a sawyer all last year then got the platy and will never go back. It's like 2x faster and has caps so you don't get dripped on when you sleep with it below freezing
This sounds like an unbelievable adventure! So excited to follow along but wondering how you are handling logistics. When you reach NJ feel free to reach out if you need something
I don't know when you'll be on the CDT (probably end of the year again?), but I'd be happy to help out in central NM if you need it. I can get stuff to you in Cuba or Grants if there's anything you need. ✌️ Are you blogging again? Do the gear videos mean you're gonna vlog? I'm excited for you! Best of luck out there! 👊✌️
So glad I found this video! Can someone tell me how the flip fuel will allow you to “never buy fuel on trail”. Where will you get the fuel to transfer it between canisters?
Did you use the Palliside on the CDT? Were you ever cold in it or had issues with drafting? Assuming people with smaller chest circumferences don't have much drafting issues as there is more material covering the body.
This looks awesome! A couple things/ideas: some anti-chafe (squirrel's nut butter?), one big stake for the center guy-out of the plex, the syringe for backwashing the sawyer squeeze (maybe just in a bounce box?), one of the tiny air pumps from garage grown gear in place of the air sack pump.
Actually, there's a little adaptor that's *waaaaay* less bulky than that stupid syringe and works both for back-flushing and for making a more stable connection between your filter and your clean bottle when filtering. It's maybe 3mm larger than a soda bottle cap, only weighs 5 grams, and can just live on the filter when not actively in use. Soooo much better than a bulky syringe.
@@tommore5232 ideally continuous east coast. Then continuous for as much of the pct that is possible. And continuous cdt. But with trail conditions I will have to wait and see
