I can relate! I still am kinda fidgety lol but yeah I’ve rolled my ankle multiple times in heels and was perfectly fine, I didn’t know that was supposed to hurt lol
So either I have very weak ankles or I just find the most amazing ways to hurt myself coz I grew up rollerblading and still somehow sprain both my ankles alot
holy smokes, this vid is sick. I recently sprained my ankle from rollerblading and twisting it around the vertical axis, I'm gonna work to make my ankles invincible B)
Hey see a physical therapist. Seriously. Seriously. They’ll teach u what exercices to do. I used to have weak ankles too guaranteed worse than yours. This is what helpedeven helped me get off the custom orthotics
“I dare you to do 15 of these and not feel sore tomorrow.” Mate, I did 3 reps of a hamstring exercise you recommended beginners do 8 reps of and my legs are still dead 2 days later.
That's great. Delayed muscle soreness (DOMS) is usually around 48 hours of soreness. But it's also a sign you are strengthening your muscles. Of course if it's too sore you may have injured yourself, especially if it's on one side, but if not, don't stop. Soon the soreness will go away and you will see how much easier the same exercises.
@sewmebxtch6295because sickled ankles are not good, especially in ballet, it looks untidy and not graceful you are also prone to more ankle injuries eg. Breaking your ankles while doing pointe work
“Dancer are gonna cringe” I’m a dancer who is scrolling and sewing pointe shoes at the same time… I was like: oh ankle stuff , that could be good for me. Then my mind immediately changed into a lecture my ballet teacher gave us about sicklying your feet… 😭😭😭this has been a roller coaster of emotions
As a dancer, I actually agree that it's necessary to strengthen that part of the foot, I've always practiced this outside of dance, and I think it's necessary to, so when you inevitably fall out into that position (at some point), your feet and ankles can handle it.
Excellent video! So important for all, especially older people to keep from falling. Once they fall, things go bad quickly. Just discovered how weak my left side of shin is! Thanks!
RUclips is finally helpful. After pne sprain, i started getting them every couple months. Finally I can start building up strength after 4 years of repeated sprains Thank you for doing this and thank the algorithm for recommending it to me
When I worked retail I had a habit of standing on the sides of my feet to give the balls of my toes a break. I haven't rolled my ankle in years, and I was a serial roller as a kid.
Turns out my ankles are pretty strong. These were pretty easy to do for me. Last time I did sprain an ankle was when I was like 12? I remember being out with my cousins, tripping and my ankle hurting like crazy, I kept running on it though and by the end of the day it was all purple😂😂
same, apart from the first one where he sits on the ground and lifts his body, all of these were easy. I never knew ankle strength was a thing. I am actually quite clumsy but I have never sprained an ankle. It happens quite often that I roll my ankle, and people are like "omg are you okay?" and I'm like "what yeah of course I only stumbled a bit"
I was in a really bad car accident and had screws put into my ankle. I love seeing videos like this because these are the types of movements I had to do for physical therapy to get me walking again. Thank you so much for sharing❤
I naturally do all of these stretches and motions with my feet since childhood. I had my ankles looked at by a kinesiologist at age 15 and was told I have crazy strong and flexible ankles.
I love that you share these short little moves we can do to have a better quality of life just from using pomodoro breaks or waiting for the microwave or whatever in our life instead of asking me to do more at a gym
Ballet dancer here, I actually love you because for more than 20 years of my life I've been doing the same (plus some more) ankle exercises! They're fundamental for healthy on pointe habits
I love the way you present your info! THANK YOU 💜 I have learned so much from your channel and you are a positive influence on me, a 55 y.o. female starting a second career in the healthcare field.
I've never been in need to follow your advice. But, even so, since I've taken some of your advice life got better. Thank you and I'm trying to STAY FLEXY
I recently had an awful ankle injury and had to limit activity in my sport for a few months. Will definitely be useing these exercises to get stronger and decrease the likelihood of another injury! Thanks for making amazing content like this!! 💚
As a contemporary dancer this is great! Body flexibility and strength are essential for everyone, but when you’re going from jumping to laying on the floor quickly, it’s lovely to not have to worry about dislocating/tearing something. Every body deserve love and respect. Especially yours, because it’s you and you’re awesome
❤😂 “…… ankles roll, injuries happen…🫨😮 Thank you, David, each of your clips is seriously a game changer for me! I’m 70y young, & hope to stay flexy and gracefully mobile into infinity🤭🥳🤩
I severely injured my ankle A WHOLE YEAR AGO and it's still uncomfortable, watching you do these things raises every alarm in my head... Guess I'm going to *very* carefully try? Probably seated at first until i rebuild the trust in my ankle x.x
I sprained my ankle from falling straight down on it in a compromised position last summer. At the start of this year we discovered a "pebble" had broken off the base of my leg when a ligament pulled at it. I lost a lot of strength in that ankle from the injury, surgery, and lack of use from restricted movement. I'm so grateful for your videos that are helping me get to an even better place than I was before the accident.
I destroyed my ankle about as bad as you can do without requiring surgery a couple of years ago. This was in 2020 so like...just getting seen just to get an X-ray and a boot was a bitch and a half so I never had any kind of followup care. I took it easy until it mostly stopped hurting (8 months, my dude. Whoever said severe sprains are worse than a break in terms of recovery was absolutely correct), but now my doc has finally got me a referral to a physical therapist. I will ask them about these for my therapy. At least, I will definitely use this for my good ankle!
I sprained the same ankle twice in the same year. It's been weak and never the same since even with stretching and stuff. I will give these a try thank you so much.
This is very helpful! I tore a ligament in my ankle at the start of last year and I’m still constantly worried about it, especially getting back into running and exercise now. I thought a good idea would be to strengthen my ankles so thank you!
my dancer ankle strength has remained even after not working on it for 6 years. build your ankle strength. it will protect you for the rest of your life.
You are the goat for this information. Thank you. My ankle has been weak since 2018 when I rolled it terribly and popped it out. I never went and got it popped back in it. Kind of just healed broken. Last summer I was trying on some heels and went to take a step and rolled that same ankle. It popped back into place but it’s feeling even weaker ever since I can’t wait to try these.
These are actually some of my muscles in my ankles that actually work properly. I have high arches and it makes my weight towards the outsides of my feet, I'm also a toe walker because of ASD. So these muscles are just fine, but the inner and front muscles are very compromised and sprain and fracture easy. What I'm trying to do is build as much ankle mobility as I can so I can actually work and not hurt myself when I have a job that involves pushing or lifting. These exercises you show have been a lot more help than what they give me in physical therapy, I genuinely recommend people to do them.
You were correct, we dancers are cringing very much 😬 Also, thank you for your videos. I've appreciated how you define very specific problems and offer a worthwhile solution 😉
I'm on the road to recovery from chronic Perennial and achilis tendonitis. I'm hoping this video will really help 🙏🏻 its so nice to be able to walk unassisted again, I hope to never be back in that situation
This is like my only flexible joint! I have done these thing absentmindedly since I was a kid, and I also NEVER injure my ankles. Even when I roll them pretty hard, they’re fine minutes later. Didn’t put two and two together still I started martial arts as an adult. My wrists are the only other joint I have decent flexibility for, and I absentmindedly stretch those too.
watching after a rolled ankle, Im so glad I found this channel and did some ankle work, ankle is still sore, but most likely WAY less serious then what it would have been
I had pretty bad bout of gout in 2020 and I couldn't walk for almost two months (I haven't had one since, knock on wood), but after that I lost a ton of ankle mobility and would constantly hurt them. Followed this for about a year and have felt pretty much immune to being injured by rolling my ankle. Thank you!
As growing teen I tripped/rolled ankles a lot. Got to the point where it was a joke with everyone else 😒 So started doing this just because it made sense - but few people I told said it was just asking for injuries. So kept it to myself. Feeling vindicated now. Thank you 😊
Hah, I've been doing all of these since I could first walk. I cannot stand still, I always have to fidget and these are the three I do most often. I guess that explains why I've never rolled or twisted my ankles before!
Yeah it took me landing on uneven ground with all my weight to hurt my ankle, I've got hyperflexion and never hurt my ankle before that, ended up needing surgery to repair the torn ligaments...thanks for this video and all of your content 🤗
I was super fidgety as a kid and constantly rocked my heals side to side. I've rolled my ankle in 4 inch wedges and walked away fine.
i was gonna say the same exact thing
Wow! That's like a super power!
Oh hey same! I wear platforms that end up being 6 inches at the heel and I roll my ankles all the time and I’ve never had them hurt more than a minute
I can relate! I still am kinda fidgety lol but yeah I’ve rolled my ankle multiple times in heels and was perfectly fine, I didn’t know that was supposed to hurt lol
I do that all the time in 3in heels
Roller skating also helps!
I love roller blading and skating
