Dan and joe both look exactly the same hahaha.
This is quite possibly the largest gem of a video I've ever discovered on RUclips - emailed you obviously, and you've done some amazing, amazing work here.
Look forward to speaking with you.
Coming back 5 years later to say that this comment is still fairly accurate....FYS back when they really cared were untouchable.
@@actuallynotsteveI think they still care. What fys has done since 2005 imo is they make the kind of punk music that’s really popular at the time, but they do it better than all of their peers. It’s our time is a pop punk/posthardcore masterclass that matches the likes of second stage turbine blade by coheed and cambria imo. Rise or die and enemy were such unbelievable “easycore” that it disgusts me to call fys easycore, because there was and still has never been another easycore band on the planet even a fraction as good as them. In some way shape or form was like their attempt at pop rock to break away from that mold they were put in, easycore and such. Relatively failed attempt but still a good record where Dan and Alan add their flavor to a rather bland genre and make it better. Ep and self titled was touching back into the pop punk roots with bands like the story so far being so huge around the time, but fys ain’t whiny bitches and they play RIFFS so it was once again better than any pop punk you’ve ever heard. Brain pain was an experimental take for them, and the newest album is going towards the direction of bands like turnstile and they’re still doing it better than bands like turnstile lol
@@actuallynotsteveBUT, I wholeheartedly agree this was the best era of fys. Abandon ship, wrecked em, catastrophe, men are from mars, if he’s here who’s running hell, and maniac are quite literally the songs of my lifetime. Nothing will ever top that for me
@@actuallynotsteveI’m also with you on this being one of the biggest gems on the internet. I think we’d get along quite well. This album makes up a portion of my personality
Wish there was some more live full set videos of them from 08-10
I've been looking this formation for live! Thank tou so much for the video!
Saw them live at Soundwave in '09, so this was a real nostalgia trip for me. Appreciate the uploads

2021 here
Love these guys! Oh, I emailed ya!
lol wearing the ADTR shirt
Also, what's really interesting about this video is that Alan and Dan show visible displeasure with Josh, even though he's being an effective hype man and playing his parts right...the slop in the songs is actually coming from Jake, and I say this as somebody with 21 years of drumming experience. Every time the beat is off from the main riffs, they look at Josh with hostile expressions, but he hasn't done anything wrong.
Maybe there's a lot I missed with this band, in terms of their inter-member relationships. Why can't they just play bangers and be happy? Rewatching this has kind of changed my opinion of them in their early days, they seem way more mean than I remember. Jake fucks up so much in this video, but Josh takes the blame. And Dan seems like a dick, and I don't get why, they should have been having the time of their life.
I get that Josh may not have worked out from a sonic perspective, but he seems to be getting ganged up on in this video and I'm not sure why.
Must be off the stage stuff I’d imagine
When I was younger I hated they let him go. As I’ve grown older and play a lot of music myself, I’m glad they let him go. Dan and Alan might not have perfect voices, especially back in those days, but you can tell that they take pride in their performance. Dan, Alan, Joe, and Jake are one of the tightest 4 piece sets in the history of punk music. Every time Josh would fuck up, it just kept taking away from an otherwise phenomenal performance. You watch these old live sets, I never catch Dan, Alan, Joe, or Jake miss a single note or beat EVER and Josh would fuck up multiple times every single song. He had the easiest job in the band and it’s a slap in the face to the other guys to not take as much pride in his performance as they do
He brought some energy but he could hardly play a 4 note synth melody without fucking up
Coming back to this comment I honestly don’t notice Jake making any mistakes that dude has always been a machine. I don’t have decades of drumming experience under my belt but there’s pretty much a metronome in my bloodstream at this point. Josh hits the wrong key all the time Jake is a monster on the drums
Starting at 13:38 he’s literally out of key until the break in the music and they hardly look his direction what are you even on about?
when they didn't suck.
Lol, what?
@@tylerpifer5966 you can't read?
@@eh2396 It’s such a ridiculous comment. The self titled and Brain Pain are great albums.
@@tylerpifer5966 meh.
@@tylerpifer5966 I've loved FYS, like a lot. And I mean A LOT, I've listened to RoDT at least 1500 times. But - they definitely started checking out sometime around the post-Enemy timeline, and haven't been able to re-capture this level of visible passion. It is what it is...this era was special and unlike anything we've ever heard.
