  • (Re-upload March 2023: Improved video quality, from a 576i PAL DVD. Shown in 480p on RUclips.)
I'm aware that this clip already exists on RUclips, but in such bad quality that one can barely see what's happening. Here's the clip from my personal archive.
The performance is from the Norwegian music award show "Spellemannprisen", which is the Norwegian equivalent to the "Grammy"-show in the USA. I recorded this on VHS in 1999, as I was watching the show on Norwegian TV. This may be the best performance I have seen of Dimmu Borgir ever, apart from Astennu's guitar not being perfectly tuned.
On this same night, Nagash/Lex Icon (Covenant) made a fool of himself, while accepting the "Best metal album" award for Covenant. But that's another story...

Crazy to see Dimmu on what appears to be a mainstream show. Makes me think Norway is cool place to live. Most other countries award the most bland and manufactured music nowadays.

Yes, black metal got some attention in the mainstream back then, but that was back in 1999. Not that many great Norwegian black metal bands left now. I have expanded my musical interest, and mostly listen to 90's black metal, whenever I'm in the mood. Check out the clip of Satyricon playing at the opening party for World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo, on my channel. The music is on tape, but the vocals are live.

An orchestra was supposed to play with them. They even rehearsed and everything, but the day before the show, the orchestra pulled out because someone had read the lyrics to Tormentor of Christian souls and felt that they didn't want to play with a satanic band. Astennu talks about it in a recent interview

Also, check out Covenant (The Kovenant) receiving the award for Best Metal Album, just after Dimmu Borgir played this song, at the same event. Award presented by the drummer from TNT, legendary Norwegian metal band, Morten Diesel Dahl: ruclips.net/video/HOdZV60XseM/видео.html

It's a shame that spiritual black dimensions is so poorly produced, a remake like stormblast would be very welcome

It has Abyss Studios/Tägtgren written all over it. Still, I like it a lot. I'm not a fan of re-recordings. They rarely improve the product. And it would sound different, with different musicians, loss of nuances, and the possibility that the original guys don't have the chops that they had in their younger years.

@@pilsking1976 agreed but what pisses me off is that enthrone.darkness made like, 2 yrs before and sounds way better than spiritual black
