Covenant (The Kovenant) - Receiving "Norwegian Grammy award" in 1999 (Pro-shot broadcast)

- This is a clip from the "Norwegian Grammy equivalent", called "Spellemannsprisen", in 1999.
Covenant won in the category of "Best Hard rock album", for the album "Nexus Polaris".
The other nominees were Dimmu Borgir and Mundanus Imperium.
They accepted the award right after Dimmu Borgir had played "Grotesquery Conceiled" live at the same event. That's why Astennu is dressed the way he is when he accepts the award.
The award was presented to Covenant by Diesel Dahl, the drummer of the classic Norwegian metal band TNT.
I remember feeling a bit embarrassed (on behalf of the band) when this award was accepted by Covenant, because of the behavior of Lex Icon. Chewing gum and making silly remarks...
But you would have to understand Norwegian to see what I mean.
This clip is taken from one of my old VHS cassettes. (BASF stereo recording.)

Maharef yes. Hellhammer is one of the reasons they won best album. His drumming is magnificent on Nexus Polaris

There was a sense of pride among some big Norwegian media at the time, about this kind of music, and musical export from Norway. But this was a long time ago...
if i had known what i listened to and how accepted that is by the averages, i would have felt very very bad. And how they just take it for granted and the rocknroll hairt metal behavior, and those boots... and shirtless in front off suit wearers.. and that Hells Angels righ wing model as a moderator and that stiff bavarian bitch on his side.. ok culture shock , no offense, just not my pair of shoes, sorry. and literally.

It is a funny speech, lol. Basically, he is saying " I am moved to tears, I don`t know what I am going to say ( but he is joking lol). Is it so special to be nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Award? We don`t really have so much to say. Hi to you people upstairs ( he is waving at some people sitting upstairs). What am I going to say? Yes, we can thank our record label, because thanks to them we get to live at Plaza ( one of the best hotels in Norway) and we get all the money we want to buy a lot of beers. And we can also thank ourselves because we have been really lazy, this is why you have not heard about us, so it is weird that we won. So, I don`t know, maybe that is all we have to say and we see you maybe next year, thank you! "

Nagash/Lex Icon is speaking normal eastern/south-eastern Norwegian dialect. Like in and around Oslo. I think he's from Hamar.

@@dmhq-administration The male presenter is Morten Diesel Dahl, drummer in Norwegian metal band TNT. He speaks Trondheim-dialect. The female presenter speaks western Norwegian dialect, with the characteristic "German" r's. All dialects are different, but are understood by most native Norwegians.

The weird thing is Hellhammer is standing on stage with a homosexual (Pzy Coma) And when he commented on the fact that in the past some black metal dude killed a homosexual he said "good riddance" and "I have the utmost respect for the guy (the guy who did it)". Hypocrite as fuck.
Well...he was much younger (or a few years younger) when he said it. Also in context...he may not have said it as a homophobe but because he knew the man who did the deed and believed him to be a decent man.

This is from 1998, not 99.
The award ceremony was in February 1999, but the award was for "Best metal album 1998". Dimmu Borgir played live just prior to this clip, and that's why Astennu has no shirt on, as he played with Dimmu just minutes earlier. I was watching this TV-program as it was broadcasted, and recorded it as well.

Don't get me wrong.i like nexus polaris...but this outfit is just tragic (apart from hellhammer).In 1999 i was 18years old and i am sure that this appearence won't bother me.But now in my 42 watching this guys look like that,just awful.They say Don't judge a book by its cover.....
I remember the evening when i taped this appearance. A complete cringeworthy moment, for sure. But Dimmu Borgir played Grotesquery Conceiled live on this same show, earlier. And that was totally killer! That's why Astennu is topless in this clip. He played live with Dimmu a little earlier. That clip is also on my channel, check it out.

Maybe the most cringe worthy moment in Norwegian "black metal" apart from when Satyr was doing Top 40 show "Give me a K!...Give me an I!....Give me an N!....". The final nail in the black coffin, which was somewhat pink at that point. After a few years of silence, a new generation arouse from the underground and proved that black metal in Norway could still be done with a pure malicious intent.
