    uhh, not sure where you got megaman is 10 from. He is also 14.

    • @KalTheSkeleton

      Well in fairness, I'm wrong either way because of the whole "de-aging in a crystal after he came down from eden" thing but- I still feel like you have to be right, because it wouldn't make sense otherwise. I can at least tell you why that's in the script though.
      Some online fan based wiki that I was doing research on had it as his age, and I thought it was the fandom one, but it says 14 when I check now and hasn't been edited, so it can't be that. I thought it was weird, but there is also a letter in Legends 2 from Barrel that says Roll named MegaMan after her favorite video game character. Once I read that, I just shrugged and believed the first misinformation like a good little sheep. Maybe the letter is a weird translation thing?
      Pinned to combat misinformation, and spotlight my shame!

      @@KalTheSkeletonit's a very forgivable offense. The English side for Megaman Legends is kinda screwed up. In Japan you don't even hear "rockman" (their term for Megaman) until Juno comes into play and up until that point everyone is calling him something like Rockuro or something.
      Still not as bad as the English-Japanese divide with Sega products, but having to turn to Japan to figure out the stupid contrivances in the game only to discover they were purely English creations because the localizes thought we'd be too stupid or a couple years difference in age is meaningless is frustrating.

    • @KalTheSkeleton
      @KalTheSkeleton  2 месяца назад

      @@codyraugh6599 Yeah, the state of translation for Japanese media has always been kind of a sore spot for me. It's not as bad today as it used to be, but it does still come up that someone decides American audiences need something different, and it changes the experience. Or all the games we just never got because the company didn't want to bother with localization are a huge shame.
      Sadly this one is all on me though. Every time I got to that part in the script I thought "that is weird". But I never bothered to double check.

      @@KalTheSkeleton I blame the whole thing on Hollywood's hypocrisy and entitlement. I mean how often did a Disney movie that's trash by the standards of Disney beat out the candidate for a peak Anime film just because "it isn't kid friendly" like somehow every animation has to be made for children...never mind that 80s movies where mice are bloody torn apart exist. And as we've even observed with modern localizers they try to reframe foreign content to match Hollywood sensibilities regardless of where it came from originally.

      @@KalTheSkeletonwhat's funny is that Legends is the end point of the main timeline, going from Megaman, to X to Megaman Zero and then ZX was hinting at the creation of the Elder System or even Master System right before it was cancelled.
      But Megaman Legends as I've grown to label it, narratively could have been the One Piece of Capcom. The setting was well set for just fun anime style adventures which in Megaman fashion could possibly have some very dark background lore, that doesn't interfere with the game's light-hearted nature.

    • @KalTheSkeleton
      @KalTheSkeleton  2 месяца назад

      @@codyraugh6599 I don't know much of the MegaMan lore, but I did read about it being set in the same timeline as the other games but in the distant future. You're absolutely right about the One Piece parallel though. Legends has a setup that they could have taken anywhere, be it more games, or even into tv and other merchandise.
      I love some of Capcom's stuff, and they've been doing a lot better lately, but between them and Konami it's amazing how much potential the Japanese game market has squandered by being stuck in tradition and not caring what their audiences want.

    • @codyraugh6599
      @codyraugh6599 2 месяца назад

      @@KalTheSkeleton the "failure" of Megaman sadly reeks of internal power struggle, combined with bad timing. They guy who basically was the face and body of Megaman in the company was fighting with the top board who refused to give him a seat so he ended up quitting and making a fuss that made the board members target anything that had his name associated with it, and so Megaman Legends 3 was put through production hell and held to a bogus sales projection figure that was Capcom 's go to at the time that 1) was trying to effectively make gamers buy a game before it would be approved for production, and 2) many games they did approve never met the set sales figure, yet they refused to acknowledge that the projections were a bad standard.
      And what makes the Legends bit worse is that Capcom spent nearly a decade weaving little Megaman Legends teasers into their games both leading up to and after the Cancellation of MML3 as you can find Servbot merch in all their games all the way up to around resident evil 6.
      But the funny bit with the Lore there even with like Megaman X, the first level you play is a city effectively being carpet bombed by robots, and so you have all that war and genocide just sort of lingering in those game's backgrounds and all of it culminates in Legends which is comparatively extremely light and happy, if you ignore Lex Loathe putting people into slavery without any opposition from the cops... The mini games in MML1 being conducted with live weapons, the fact pirates can do easily slip past security measures and have city destroying super weapons, and the occasional plots by ancient machines to commit mass genocide.

    this is my childhood. i used to rent on my neighbor and play this game. i got only to the boss where you have to jump and hit its head. i beat it. whats fun is even though my time is up with the rental, they let me play it still because they too were also immersed with the game and I'm close to beating the boss. they let me beat the boss even though my time is up and I did. after that we watched a cutscene and proceed to save the game and then i got home because its already night. the next day the worst thing happened. the ps1 of my neighbor broke and would not read any cd. we are all devastated. thats the last time i remember renting on them. the year was like 99 or 98. fast forward 2005 psp was so popular and i finally bought one in like 2007 and psp hacks are everywhere. we all know it can play ps1 games and legends is the very first ps1 game i downloaded into it. played the hell out of it and finally beat it. this game holds a very special place in my heart 😊

    You really should try out Megaman Legends 2 if you love the first one, really. Capcom upped their game with that one:
    - improved controls now includes the joystick, so it's more modernised
    - improved overall graphics and design of the game (the refractors reaverbots drops actually look like refractors)
    - semi-open world, and also much more open environment (you can explore and interact with the flutter so much more)
    - actual treasure hunt digs for money, your digger license means something now
    - increase difficulty and challenges
    But it is not without complaints:
    - the cast is much larger now, so character development of the side characters are spread thin
    - some people felt the semi-open world is too disjointed story wise
    - THAT. DAMN. WATER LEVEL!!

    • @KalTheSkeleton
      @KalTheSkeleton  2 месяца назад +2

      That honestly sounds awesome, except for the water level, but is it really a retro game if you aren't slogging through a water level? I would have gone strait into legends 2, but my attention span has a hard time if I'm in the same type of game for too long. I'll definitely be digging in to it soon though.

      @@KalTheSkeleton Pro tip for the water level if you ever got into it:
      1. Get the aqua chip before exploring the the water level, Roll can make you the underwater jet skates which saves your sanity moving through water
      2. Try to drain the water before fighting the boss of the water level. It's a bit of a puzzle to do it, but fighting them in water is waaaay harder with your equipment at the time, unless you really go for a zenny-grind.
