Out Where The Busses Don’t Run, possibly the best, if not certainly in the top 3 episodes of Miami Vice. Bruce McGill was outstanding in his role as Ex-Vice detective, so many parts in this ep he comes out from way left field, the ending, with Brothers in Arms running as background even had Crockett and Tubbs not believing what they were seeing. Classic Vice, classic 80’s. love it!
keep in mind that the role of hank weldon was written for dennis hopper, only for him to pull out. in comes bruce mcgill who takes the role and totally smashes it.
Ever since finding out about that, I could see Hopper as Weldon in almost every scene. Always thought McGill was a bit young for the role as written; figured at the time it was because his character had taken "early retirement."
@@jennifersman7990 Hopper had the role of Weldon on MV, but he demanded an extra bonus to his salary in the last minute in pre-production. Michael Mann was so infuriated for being jerked around by the antics, he dismissed Hopper immediately, then he was advised to hire Bruce McGill to replace Hopper as Weldon, and history was made. Mann was so electrified by McGill's performance, he and McGill worked together in feature films later on throughout the decades.

Bruce McGill is one of the most talented character actors of our time. Had the opportunity to meet him while he was filming Lincoln in Richmond Va at a local steakhouse. Gracious & friendly ;)
My introduction of him was “Matchstick Men” with Nicolas Cage. That was the first movie I ever saw Bruce McGill in, he is such an underrated actor and easily one of the greatest supporting actors of all time to plays side characters in movies and TV Shows. He was the villain in an episode of “Walker Texas Ranger” with Chuck Norris, he was also in “The Last Boy Scout” with Bruce Willis, he was in “Cliffhanger” with Sylvester Stallone, he was in “Timecop” with Jean-Claude Van Damme, he was in “Exit Wounds” with Steven Seagal. So many he has been in, always enjoyed seeing Bruce McGill pop up in a Movie or TV Show, he is one of those actors you definitely have seen numerous times but can’t think of his name. Great Actor, I remember watching this episode of Miami Vice a few years ago, Bruce McGill definitely made this one of the best episodes of the show and he is absolutely hilarious and entertaining as Hank Weldon, even when he goes crazy and over the top with impersonations 👍
Bruce McGill was cast only days before production began, after Dennis Hopper, for whom the role was written, pulled out. McGill flew from New York to Miami during the middle of the night to arrive on time, and began reading the script without having slept for some time. McGill spent the whole episode doing on-the-money impressions of everyone from Star Trek's "Scotty" to Monty Hall to Edward G. Robinson. Weldon would have been a cool character to see again if he hadn't truly been "Out Where The Buses Don't Run".

I remember this scene from when I watched in the 1980s. As an impressionable adolescent, made me want to own a powerful computer; now there is more computational power in my telephone.
This episode, along with season 1's "Evan," is generally considered the best in the series; it ranked #90 on a top 100 all-time TV episode list by TV Guide in 1997, the only Miami Vice episode to make the list.
Yeah--gotta love that pause, as if to say, Oh he's very very mellow right now. That, and his little wig-out when he refers to the timing of Wingo's disappearance... brilliant.
McGill played Secretary of War Stanton in Speilberg's "Lincoln." David Straitharn, who played Weldon's partner in this episode, played Secretary Seward in "Lincoln."
I gotta be honest this is in my bottom 20 there’s no way it’s close to season two episode 12 not even close to Evan not even close to when those young punks were rating houses starring East Morales not even close

Mine, too. Vintage Vice.

It is my all time favourite episode also.
