Larry have you cleaned out the gas tank on the x300? I think I can remove it, but there's a foam piece the fuel lines and seat wiring run through, and the wiring housing is fused to the foam. Any advice? We've had it to 3 mechanics because it runs for 20 minutes and dies. It can sit and idle for an hour, but running it dies. Had everything but the tank and main lines checked. It's a closed system - no vented cap. I'm thinking it's debris in the tank.
Michèle Jedlicka please keep in mind that I’m no mechanic. I had a very similar experience. Took 5-6 months of frustration and lots of unneeded spent money. They tried everything. Took it to a different place and they nailed it in minutes. It was a small needle type valve in the carburetor. It would idle fine. Then when you move the valve giggles out of place. It’s a $10.00 part. After I had the carburetor rebuilt I’ve had no problems for a couple of years now. (Knock on wood). Before I’d remove the gas tank I’d have the carburetor rebuilt. With regard to gasoline containing ethanol; if there is no place to get ethanol-free gasoline where you live, you can mix the gasoline with water to remove the ethanol. Get your gasoline, pour a portion of water into the gasoline, then shake the container, allow the water to settle, drain off the water and presto! Ethanol-free gas.

Conclusion: this machine is made to mow when you have no grass, a machine to mow in the desert!

Only one gas station around here has it and it’s really expensive. I’ve never had trouble with the additive I’ve been using for years. Thanks for watching. Happy mowing this summer
Why on earth are you adding Stabil when you are going to use the tractor? Makes zero sense... Stabil would be for seasonal storage, and even then you’re better off running the tank dry (with a smidge of 2cycle oil ) / draining the carb bowl instead of leaving fuel in the machine anyway... if you’re looking for a fuel treatment during the mowing season, add a tiny bit of Seafoam with every tank...
Stabil is what my mower mechanic told me to use after he replace all the gaskets in the carburetor from using gasoline with ethanol in it. Thanks for the feedback.
I know this is an old RUclips but I’m a new owner. Sta-bil has (at least) two different products. One is for long term storage or your gas, and one is an ethanol fighter. So, if you can’t get ethanol-free gas, you know what product to use. I have to drive a minimum of about 20 miles, each way, to get gas free of corn juice. So I fill up about ten cans at a time. I add Sta-bil Storage to the cans before I head to the gas station.

Thanks
This mower needs exactly two quarts of oil.
Colleen Zuren ok but two quarts will over fill my motor. Don’t add too much or you could do damage to the motor. Maybe someone could help us here.
@@LSatch Try a bit less than Recommended. Some oil will remain in the crankcase. The manual should tell you if you screw in the dip stick or not. Too much oil can obstruct vacuum actuated Fuel Pump.
Gord Baker great advice, thanks.
42 bucks is a pretty good deal
Thanks, I think so too
$53-ish on amazon ‘24
Yes, ordered it about two weeks ago
"1 QT 8 oz" is NOT 1.8 Quarts! 8 oz has NEVER equaled 25.6 oz!!! 8/10 of a quart = 25.6 oz!!!!
phantom714 thanks, you’re the first one to catch that!
From the JD owners manual, changing engine oil: X300, X304 and X310: Begin with approximately 1.7 L (1.8 qt)
Lots of exclamation marks in 1.8 Quarts……………!
Grease the pulley spindles on the mower deck.
Matt Windisch absolutely. That’s one of the advantages of the x300, they have spindles that have grease nips.
@@LSatch If they are like other spindles, they have sealed bearings. You are just pumping grease into a void.
Gord Baker thanks for watching. I don’t think they are sealed but they certainly could be, I’m just a backyard, trying to save a buck, guy sharing what I do. Happy mowing. Stay safe. Larry
Use elthenol free gas
