    There are also some grease points on the deck and the mechanism that moves the deck up and down. Not sure if there are others.. I'll have to check the manual. Good find on the one underneath in the middle. I have the X350 so its pretty much same. One thing I did different when changing oil is I ran the tractor to warm up oil first so it was thin and warm and drained easily. Opening the fill plug while its draining makes the flow so much better too!

    The Kit actually depends on what Engine your mower has. I have John Deere X300 with Kawasaki Engine so the kit that you have won't fit. BTW, I use the same Gasoline Stabilizer brand for years. I put it in my empty Gasoline tank before heading to the gas station.

    From the JD owners manual, changing engine oil:
    "IMPORTANT: Do not overfill. Some residual oil could remain in engine after draining. Overfilling can cause smoking, hard starting, fouling of spark plug, and oil saturation of air filter. Add oil slowly and stop to check oil level every few ounces to avoid overfilling. Add oil no higher than FULL mark on dipstick. Do not overfill."
    > X300, X304 and X310: Begin with approximately 1.7 L (1.8 qt).
    > X320, X324 and X360: Begin with approximately 2.1 L (2.2 qt).

    On my X300, snow blower, weed wacker, and push mowers I use Shell premium fuel that has 0 % ethanol.
    Update July 2023, all gas stations in Canada no longer sell 0% ethanol fuel. So to combat this I use Ethanol Shield sold in Home Depot, this prevents moisture from forming causing water in the fuel.

    Thanks for the informative video! I noticed your seat has a crack in it ... exactly the same spot that mine cracked. I had mine replaced under John Deere warranty. My X300 is now out of warranty with barely 300hrs on it and it has cracked again (over four years or 400hrs out of warranty) Poor quality seat. In many respects my LX173 and JD180 are far better machines ... I use all three on our 4 acres ... not at the same time of course!

    • @mommabee3793
      @mommabee3793 4 года назад +1

      @@sodbuster518able To clarify ... the crack in the seat happened less than 3 months after we purchased the tractor. Never subjected to UV sunlight, used once a week and stored in an insulated dry garage. The replacement seat has lasted far longer (410 hrs) than the first one but does show crease lines in the exact same places as the original ... and I agree it is a fact of life that seats can fail like this. So, if I purchase a new sofa/car/truck and the seat comes apart before it is 3 months old I have to accept that "It is what it is?" and not warn other buyers to beware? I am positive that if you bought a new car/truck you would be at the dealership the very next day to demand satisfaction ... stay smart, stay safe.

    Pro Tip: to determine which engine is under the hood of your X300, open the hood and look at it! JD did not use a “bazillion” types of motors in the x300.... merely one engine in each x300 generation: ‘06-‘10 had the Kawasaki FH491V... ‘11-15 uses the FS541V ... also, always run the engine to warm the oil before draining, helps to suspend contaminants/warm oil drains more thoroughly

    Larry have you cleaned out the gas tank on the x300? I think I can remove it, but there's a foam piece the fuel lines and seat wiring run through, and the wiring housing is fused to the foam. Any advice? We've had it to 3 mechanics because it runs for 20 minutes and dies. It can sit and idle for an hour, but running it dies. Had everything but the tank and main lines checked. It's a closed system - no vented cap. I'm thinking it's debris in the tank.

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  4 года назад +1

      Michèle Jedlicka please keep in mind that I’m no mechanic. I had a very similar experience. Took 5-6 months of frustration and lots of unneeded spent money. They tried everything. Took it to a different place and they nailed it in minutes. It was a small needle type valve in the carburetor. It would idle fine. Then when you move the valve giggles out of place. It’s a $10.00 part. After I had the carburetor rebuilt I’ve had no problems for a couple of years now. (Knock on wood). Before I’d remove the gas tank I’d have the carburetor rebuilt. Good luck, I feel your pain. Larry

    This riding mower cannot discharge the grass properly because its outlet is too small and the fan is not efficient. One solution is to mow your lawn every 3 days (2 days in the spring) in order to mow a very small amount of grass. If you wait one week, the grass outlet will be blocked all the time. Do I need to use a fuel stabilizer if I purchase non ethanol gas?

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  4 года назад +1

      Jerome Foster probably not for the summer but I would use it on “the last tank” of the summer to keep the gas fresh over the winter. BUT....please remember, I’m not an expert on the subject, I just play one on RUclips. 😉

    Will any small in line fuel filter work? I've got a x300 with 17 horse Kawasaki

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  4 года назад +1

      Jason Gelles I’m but I can’t honestly say. Most of the gas filters I see on the shelf all look alike but I just don’t know. You could probably do a google search for mowers and find a discussion group that could answer your question.

    This mower needs exactly two quarts of oil.

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  5 лет назад

      Colleen Zuren ok but two quarts will over fill my motor. Don’t add too much or you could do damage to the motor. Maybe someone could help us here.

      @@LSatch Try a bit less than Recommended. Some oil will remain in the crankcase. The manual should tell you if you screw in the dip stick or not. Too much oil can obstruct vacuum actuated Fuel Pump.

    "1 QT 8 oz" is NOT 1.8 Quarts! 8 oz has NEVER equaled 25.6 oz!!! 8/10 of a quart = 25.6 oz!!!!

    Grease the pulley spindles on the mower deck.

      Matt Windisch absolutely. That’s one of the advantages of the x300, they have spindles that have grease nips.

      @@LSatch If they are like other spindles, they have sealed bearings. You are just pumping grease into a void.

    Why on earth are you adding Stabil when you are going to use the tractor? Makes zero sense... Stabil would be for seasonal storage, and even then you’re better off running the tank dry (with a smidge of 2cycle oil ) / draining the carb bowl instead of leaving fuel in the machine anyway... if you’re looking for a fuel treatment during the mowing season, add a tiny bit of Seafoam with every tank...

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  3 года назад

      Stabil is what my mower mechanic told me to use after he replace all the gaskets in the carburetor from using gasoline with ethanol in it. Thanks for the feedback.

      I know this is an old RUclips but I’m a new owner.
      Sta-bil has (at least) two different products. One is for long term storage or your gas, and one is an ethanol fighter. So, if you can’t get ethanol-free gas, you know what product to use.
      I have to drive a minimum of about 20 miles, each way, to get gas free of corn juice. So I fill up about ten cans at a time.
      I add Sta-bil Storage to the cans before I head to the gas station.
