Great video. I've done this on my X540 once, and now it's due again...the flexible funnel is a must, I didn't have one last time and it was.....messy. I also had to run out for more Hyguard....it DOES hold a lot! Thanks for the refresher course!
Thanks for the comment Ernest. I started making videos so that I could rewatch them myself to refresh my memory on what I actually did. The maintenance intervals are long enough where I’d kinda forget how I did things.
Great comment. I was just trying to do it step by step the way the owner’s manual outlined and I happened to have my deck off already for other stuff so it just made sense. Sometimes filming gets tight too so if I’m trying to make helpful DIY videos, more access is better for the viewer.
No doubt, glad you got value from watching. I link all the products I use in the video description and I highly recommend flexible funnels if you don’t have any! amzn.to/3RVG5BT That’s the product I didn’t have at the time!
Excellent . Answered all my questions. Wish you would have shown how you removed the deck; Which in my estimation is the hardest part of this project 👍
Just a fun added comment. D170 here. Trans oil change NOT rcmded by dealer. SERIOUSLY! DO NOT PAY ATTN TO THEM. even when i called them today to ask about their oil rcmdation... the mech gave me attitude for wanting to change my fluid. Wtf mech dude! CHANGE THE TRANS OIL. Really. Do IT. Its easy. I changed my oil at 120 hours. Perfect amount of dirt! 6 bolts, a few clips and the axel separates from the D170 frame. Pop the cap with a putty knife. Easy. Not hard. Dump 2 or three times to remove all first batch of fluid from trans. Fill and rock backward to get out air pockets. Needs all of the 2 quarts for the refill process. Clean the magnet and pop the now fill cap back on. Power wash the air cooling fins on the trans!. Smile cause fluid cost 15 bucks. Replacing a trans axel in 2022 would cost 710 dollars america. Re asemble! Add axel back to the frame. Assess if lower pulleys or belts might need replacing. I ordered steering links and tensioner pulleys for the same task. I found large amounts of oil and debri on my belt pulley and clutch for the blades. Cleaned thoroughly for continued watching. I assume its from the fresh oil change on the motor. Drive away happily! God Bless America
Good how-to vid. ! Another utube vid. Shows on x580& 590 you can remove filter without removing deck . (Rotate scalp wheels & lower deck to rollout position)
I guess the price really dates the video, but the procedure and steps should hold up in 2023. I have to do mine again this spring! Thanks for checking out the video.
You can remove the filter with the mower on the machine pretty easily actually... just saying, can save yourself a lot of time because that deck is annoying to remove.
I am a new subscriber thank you very much for your video, I just bought a used X534 today. So I’m going through it and changing all the filters and fluids and your videos a great help. The only thing I’m unclear of is how to remove the mower deck, have you got a video on that yet. Thanks a lot

You made it look easy... Thanks for not rushing thru it gives time to take a screen shot. Love your garage, ...
Thanks for doing these I have an x540 as well and your videos are a great help.

Thank You. You have answered a lot of questions. The job just got easy.
Thanks for the comment and checking out my video.
You absolutely do NOT have to take the mower deck off. Just drop it to the lowest setting (0 or 1) and you've got plenty of room to work.

Awesome video! 2 years later the filter and fluid at ag pro with no tax farm discount is almost $92
