I started an apprenticeship in 1972. All the old boys, veterans of WW2 did not like him. One of the comments that I remember was "he would fight to the last working mans son" I think he was a man of his time and class and a Tory hero and I'm fine with that. At the end of the day the defeat of fascism was a collective effort and everyone sacrificed something, though mostly the Soviets.

Yes, they sacrificed western civilisation for it, our ancestors were the villains of that conflict, especially Churchill

Churchill was a villain by giving war guarantees to Poland that plunged it into war that destroyed Europe and the British empire

The Germans plunged Europe into war and the Brits willingly decolonized afterwards.

Yes, far better to have let those Nazis just overrun all of Europe.

@Pat Ludwa "How do I get the Russians out of Eastern Europe?" was a question Chamberlain asked that even Churchill could not answer.

Which completely disregards the machinations of Hitler and the Prussian militarists who were hell bent on expansion through war, which no one was going to stop.

@@Mis-AdventureCH Ah yes, the famous prussian militarism. France and Russia was far more militaristic, but it is always the Prussians...
