You mentioned that you would only want to do this on one layer of fabric. How does the machine do when crossing over a seam as you normally would in the hem of a garment?
When working a rolled hem it does't love seams, depending on how thick the fabric is will depend on how well it does at that seam. Worse case scenario the rolled hem will be bulkier and may be a little wider than the rest of the rolled hem. Hopefully that helped.
