  • Get the best smart bulbs, without spending too much money. Following up on my previous smart bulb comparison, I gathered 10 of the best bulbs, including several recommended by some of you in the comments.
Take a look at the brightness and colors of each bulb side-by-side for a clear comparison of which bulbs are best. I also factor in cost so you don’t overspend.

As someone still just getting into the whole smart home thing I was overwhelmed looking at the sheer amount of bulbs available. And different connection methods too, hubs, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc. didn’t know where to begin to weed the bad from the good. I just want a decent cheap light. Hue is always recommended but I can’t stomach the cost for what it would cost just to outfit a single room. I think I might try those techkin bulbs. 4 pack for $40 is a great deal! Thanks for sharing all your info on this topic, great stuff and saves me a lot of time researching things!

I like how you kept the ISO etc on your camera the same to give as an accurate visual display of the bulbs brightness and colours as possible. • @Dangrousdave20

Been watching all your vids on smart lighting and ended up find a twin pack of Sengled color changing bulbs at Best Buy today for $40! That's $20 per bulb for complete color changing spectrum. Took a chance and got them and after connecting them (which took a whole 5 mins for BOTH *wink wink* Come on Wyze...) they are def the real deal. I don't have any other color bulbs to compare them to but in my dining room for instance, just two of them completely floods the room with colors. After connecting them to Alexa as well I noticed the response time is much much quicker than the Wyze bulbs as well. The Sengled seems to just turn on instantly, whereas the Wyze bulb somewhat "powers up slowly". I actually rewatched this video AT best buy to remember what you said about the Sengled, and then bought them when you said they were pretty good. I love your channel and all the time you put into these devices just so we can buy the best ones. Thankyou so much!!!

I think your leaving out an important spec. How are the CRI ratings? Especially on the cheaper end? And I saw some flicker on some while you where dimming or changing white balance. I know most people wouldn't be able to put there finger on why you might like one over another, but a low CRI led bulb can make a room seem dull or almost have a dingy feel and you wouldn't know why.

Been using the Geeni prisma 1050 smart wrgb lately, they are very bright, they can run under the Tuya smartlife app. A little glitchy on the group feature, sometimes they don't operate in synch. A big Canadian retailer has them on right now for $14.99 cdn (abt $11.50 usd).
They're a bit big, so not ideal for small fixtures, white is super bright, I think 1000 lumens, but not temperature adjustable, pretty nice warmish white. Color brightness is a bit dim, but not horrible.
I like them a lot. Amazon does carry the brand.

Great video! I watched it when you came out with it and again after buying a couple of Teckin lights just to test. Maybe I've missed it, but IFTTT capability would be a good thing to talk about. If you're going to use lights or other devices you need to now that "IFTTT Compatible" does not mean different brands will have the same actions available. As a test, create an IFTTT to trigger a light when an Alexa timer goes off. You'll see differences that might be significant depending on which bulbs you use. I looked at a Teckin bulb, a LIFX bulb, and a Hue bulb in my house. Hue has the most IFFTTT actions available of the three and Teckin the least. So if you'd like to have a light blink to get your attention, not all bulbs, including the Teckin will do it. Anyway, it could make an interesting video to show how IFTTT capability varies among similar devices with stated IFTT Support. Keep up the good work!

If a light supports smart life app , and you can’t see it on ifttt , you can create 2 tap to run automations on the smart life , one for on and one for off. Or even more for colors etc. So the ifttt can see the automation as a scene . So you chose to turn on a scene , not a device . I did this with Vtac smart lights RGB 1300LUMEN smart lights .. they are cost 9€ each and the colors are very good for the money .

yea, Yeelight seems like the best out of the bunch but as a home assistant user that just recently bought one I can say with confidence that Yeelight sucks, unfortunately...
The firmware that came installed dropped out of my wifi all the time, after upgrading it, it stopped disconnecting but you couldn't use scenes for setting white anymore. You can use LAN Control BUT it still reports to the cloud and has a rate limit of 60 updates per minute, which is used up very quickly when fiddling around with the color wheel.
Yeelight is great as long as you only use it with Google, Alexa and HomeKit...

Nice comparison but I'm missing a few options.
4 years ago I started with Philips Hue and in my search for an alternative I ran into Ikea lights but you needed their hub to update the firmware for them to work with Hue. Then I found Gledopto. They rock. And they now have a whole lineup of bulbs, LED controllers, outdoor and floodlights. A wider selection of bulb sockets and compatible with Hue, Alexa, IFTTT etc.
Missing both Ikea and Gledopto in your comparison. Ok, I get it, you don't get commission on Ikea sales (they do have a affiliate program) but Amazon sells Gledopto also, so extra option to get income ;-)
Gledopto also has a good Reddit community and they have excellent customer support.
I get them direct from Gledopto which is a bit cheaper then Amazon.
Keep the vids coming, always great to get some inspiration.

Great review! I just bought the Wyze cam system with the sensors because you and other reviewers raved about it so much. I also wanted to tell you that the prices for all the Wyze stuff are about $5 cheaper on the Wyze web site than on Amazon. That is except for the light bulbs, which are a HECK of a lot cheaper. They are selling one Wyze bulb for just $5 or a pack of 4 for just $20. Now, that price doesn't include tax or shipping so for the other products you still may come out with a better deal if you use Amazon Prime (and the shipping will be faster with Amazon Prime too), but it may be worth it to get the Wyze bulbs from the Wyze web site even with tax and shipping (which is what I'm doing). Thanks for your great reviews!

Judging the quality of a bulb by its weight? How often do you unscrew the bulb from its fixture, juggle it with your hands and think: “This light is good, because it's heavy!” 😏
Apart from that: thanks for including almost every brand out there 👌

No EUFY bulb. I would say look into it. And if you have an Echo Plus or an Amazon device with the Zigbee hub you can use Sengled. Just added two of them using Echo Plus. Nice bulbs so far. Might get a couple more to replace TP-Link which gives me issues all the time.

I just can't get out of Hue ecosystem. I got my bulbs for really cheap tho ($30, I have 4 colors)
I hope they'll get that cheap again. And maybe make a better lightstrip. Cuz I love their dimmer switch, and the app. I wish they did multicolor lights like the upcoming LIFX color candle tho

In 2017 (iirc) I had several Philips Hue bulbs, the older ones that couldn't make a decent green. I had a sliding glass door with vertical blinds, and in the space between, put some desklamps hidden by a black board, and some decorative items, and make a xmas light display, just for fun and to try out creative technologies. The lack of green made it tricky! But making use of some color perception tricks, it looked okay. The newer bulbs from Philips don't have that problem. I sold my older Philips bulbs to a creative technologist / home decorator who didn't care about green.
Beside special displays like that, I like having several of those tall shelf floor lamps with the white box shade at the top, as sold by Fred Meyer and other stores, in groups of two or three, with Philips Hue bulbs set to various tasteful colors, for example alternating oceany white, blue and green, or fruity candy colors, or all dim deep reds and violets. I wrote my own software to change colors, set different patterns, and never got around to it but someday make certain lights blink for certain incoming emails, or when Lex Fridman uploads a new interview on YT. Great fun! I even had a fun time making "brown light" yes, there can be such a thing. My experimental software was all in Python, Ruby or D language, none of it general enough or reliable enough to be worth putting out to the public on GitHub. So far. But soon, when the new house is built, I'll be back working on that.
That's what I use smart bulbs for. Why watch comparison videos like this? I'm always looking for cheaper, good color range, lights to be seen rather than to illuminate, and easy APIs so I can do my crazy lighting designs. If I write software that may be useful to others, I may want to have it work with all brands of bulbs, or at least the few biggest brands. This is my idea of fun!

Please test GLEDOPTO next. They're compatible with the Hue bridge, much cheaper than Hue bulbs, and has multiple color/brightness options! Also led strips that work with Hue too!

Hey Reed! Just wanted to give you an update on the Yeelight Bulb. I’m an Apple Developer currently testing iOS 14 and I noticed that the Yeelight App actually copies and pastes my links and Authenticator Codes for when I was logging into IFTTT. I just want to inform as this is completely an invasion of privacy and outright suspicious.

Have you bought any yet? I'm about to buy some myself, but mainly have a question right now about the ability to dim... Mainly, will they also work from the dimmer switch on the wall plus the app. It would suck if the ability to dim them normally was taken away.

    • @djtigon
      @djtigon 3 года назад

@@kbanghart I'm not sure about the dimmer from the switch, but I did find this brand: NiteBird which came in at $36 + tax for 4 bulbs in Amazon and the color depth is way way more accurate than the Teckin and brightness are about equal.
