It remains to be seen how well the AI Integration into the Nest works and how adaptable it really is. Simply identifying a pattern of users switching temperature to 68 in summer (when it is 80+ outside for several weeks and folks are at home on weekend/Saturday) and then suggesting to switch to 68 (when it is now fall and outside temperature is a more comfortable 74 on weekends) might not be what all users might want? In short, is it simple pattern recognition or is the AI actually taking into consideration other weather related parameters/comfort factors.
As for the streamer CPU speed boost, Google seems to prioritize "planned obsolescence" - e.g. considering the upgrade roadmap for Google TV, this streamer should be viable for 'x years' down the road beyond which their devices become slow and unusable?

Made the mistake of a Nest Doorbell and Thermostat combo, on top of the thermostat needing a paid API, it refuses to turn on the heat while hard-wired if the backup battery is not in place (why? It has the C Wire...). The doorbell apparently only uses the hard-wired connection to charge, but can't operate at the same time. The battery is prone to overheating (in the bay area winter of all places), which results in the device being offline often unless it is set to potato quality and short and useless event times.

The way it powers itself w/o a C wire burned out our circuit board on our old HVAC. Given it got power by rapidly turning the system on and off, it broke that aspect of the board. Without a C wire Nest gets power by turning the HVAC on and off rapidly for fractions of a second, a time so short that it gets bits of power but it isn't long enough for the system to start spinning up.

It's disappointing but not surprising to hear they are discontinuing the Chromecast when the new Streamer comes out. I'm not thrilled with my Nest E. Mostly software related. Basic features like setting actual hours for when to use a second temp sensor. It's just 4 options: Morning, Day, Evening and Night. Like how hard would it be to customize those hours? I'd also love to see my HVAC system usage on the same day! I shouldn't need to wait for the day to end to see usage. And it would be nice if it graphed the temp and humidity in my home throughout the day. That would be great to see historical data in the app! If it dies, I'll be switching to Ecobee. After all, it's a thermostat, and it does work fine as that. Just missing some basic features that I believe could have been added over the years I've had it

I don't think the processor is what causes the sluggishness on the chromecast, I think its the absolutely insabe amount of ads they force it to constantly fetch. Even the Nvidia Shield has trouble handling them. I had to replace the launcher just to keep mine from choking while I was trying to launch an app

Google is the worst for any kind of Hardware. I had Nest back when it was DropCam then Nest then google Nest as soon as Google bought it it went in the tank. I mean that can’t even get their own Google Home UI to work with previous gen Nest devices. Their home app is trash, some time can’t pair and it’s like “oops some went wrong” well no kidding could their be any details on the issue hell no that would make you realize the mistake you just made buying Google hardware.

Google can and have reached out and bricked and/or removed features before. Just because it has Matter today is zero guarantee it will work tomorrow. Sadly.
