    I'm a black man and Nial is my DNA grandfather. Hi, I"m Harrold. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA and now live in Atlanta, GA as an adult. I grew up knowing and identifying as an African American. Recently I have my DNA history sequenced and I am a direct paternal line grandson of Niall of the Nine Hostages. But if you saw me in passing walking down the street, you'd likely see me as a Black Man. Quite Shocked, but DNA doesn't lie. What is crazy is that I know on my mom's side of the family they are from the Tyus Clan. So I guess it goes to say that I'm a Black Irishman? Only in DNA, not in culture. I do like Colcannon and champ, Boxty and Soda Bread, I guess now I know why LOL. I've asked a geneticist in the UK and in Ireland to test my DNA even more but I haven't gotten anyone interested yet. I'm enjoying finding videos on RUclips about my Irish family and the line of my DNA grandfather NIALL who died in 428. I guess this means, I'm a Prince? LOL

    • @Sk8Vader
      @Sk8Vader 3 года назад +6

      Actually, technically, you are a Prince. I'm just the opposite of you. Blue eyes, blonde hair. Niall was my grandfather as well which makes you and I cousins. I'm a direct descendent of the O'Neíll's. But the funny thing is you would never guess that I am also a descendent of an African. So it goes to show that colour is only skin deep mate. I'm lucky. I immigrated with me family from Belfast as a kid to Louisiana, USA. The community I live in doesn't recognize differences between blacks and whites. We all live together, play together, work together, marry each other and so on and so forth. Zero racism in my community. I've only seen racism on the tele. Never in person. I'm thankful for that. After all, we're all the same.

    • @Jibcutter
      @Jibcutter 2 года назад +1

      Harrold, you should consider a Big Y 700 test at FTDNA. We tentatively think that Niall would have been R1b-M269 > .... > M222 > Z2959 > Z46375 > DF106 > DF104 > DF105 > ZZ87. This study they are referring to are markers associated around M222 dated 2000-2200 years ago in an unknown ancestor some 400-600 years BEFORE Niall would have been born. He (Niall) would have descended from this R1b-M222 individual.

    This is incredible. According to DNA my Haplogroup comes from Ireland and is tied to Niall. At some point my Irish ancestors moved to Spain. What is strange is I cant find any records of their move. They may have had a name change due to the language or something of that nature. But what is odd is that they were already a prominent and influential family in Spain. Many served as nobles and Knights of the many prestigious orders of Spain.

    King Niall of the Nine Hostages is associated with a specific Y-chromosome haplotype, often referred to as M222, which falls under the broader R1b1c7 haplogroup.
    This haplotype is found in a significant percentage of men in northwest Ireland (21.5%) and is also prevalent in western and central Scotland (about 16.7%).
    The theory suggests that millions of men worldwide may descend from Niall, although the direct link is based on historical inference rather than definitive proof.
    The Y chromosome is passed down from father to son, allowing researchers to trace paternal lineage.

      My surname is McAuley. Auley was the youngest son of Donn Carrach Maguire. I believe the Mac Manus, Mac Caffrey, MacCoscar, MacAuley are all descended from Donn Maguire of 1300 A.D. I am not sure the origin of the Maguires. I know they were connected to the O'Neils and ODonnells through marriage alliances. In the nine years war Hugh Maguire, Hugh O'Neill, and Hugh ODonnell formed an alliance against the forces of Elizabeth

    • @uiimairgrandchildrenofivar5894
      @uiimairgrandchildrenofivar5894 Год назад

      @@thomasmcculey7942 Yes you're correct. But there are at least four different McAuleys. Possibly six. Two are from Scotland (the Hebrides and Dumbartonshire) and two from Ireland (Fermanagh and Westmeath). The Scottish two, moved to Ireland (Ulster) as part of the Ulster Plantation and were both Norse-Gael families. The two from Ireland come from either Amhalgaidh (Auley) or Amhlaoibh (Auliff). (Gafraidh)McCaffrey, (Magnus)McManus, and (Giolla Íosa)McAleece are sons of Donn Mor, who is Donn Carach's grandfather. The Maguires and their septs were always at war with the O'Neils and the O'Donnells, but did put their differences aside to join forces against the English monarchy. I also believe that there is a good chance that the Vikings had either an influence on the family or actually became part of the family during the Viking occupation of Ireland due to the amount of Norse names used during and after this period.
      So it really depends on which McAuley clan you come from.

When you take those two factors into account and consider the mathematical progression of births that has occurred over roughly 1500 years it's pretty reasonable that 10% of the Irish share the genetic marker.

    I am Jamaican 42% European, 56% African - 18% Irish, British. According to 23andme - I share a paternal-line ancestor with Niall of the Nine Hostages. My paternal haplogroup is R-S6000 which stems from a branch of R-M343 called R-M269, one of the most prolific paternal lineages across western Eurasia. The spread of haplogroup R-M269 in northern Ireland and Scotland was likely aided by men like Niall of the Nine Hostages. Perhaps more myth than man, Niall of the Nine Hostages is said to have been a King of Tara in northwestern Ireland in the late 4th century C.E. His name comes from a tale of nine hostages that he held from the regions he ruled over. Though the legendary stories of his life may have been invented hundreds of years after he died, genetic evidence suggests that the Uí Néill dynasty, whose name means "descendants of Niall," did in fact trace back to just one man who bore a branch of haplogroup R-M269.

      During the great potato famine in Ireland in the 1840's the Irish people that were leaving the country would litreally go onto any boat avalibale to them to get out of ireland.
      Some of these boats leaving Ireland were merchant boats that commonly went down to areas such as Puerto Rico and Jamaica to trade, when the merchant vessels came to these island they would either leave the irish passangers behind or the irish people would leave the boats and look for work.
      These Irish people stayed on these islands and raised their families there, this is the reason we get black men with Irish names such as Eddie Murphy and Bob Marley, they're descendents of Irish people who emigrated to the caribbean in the 1840's.
      You might either have a great grand mother or great grand father that came to Puerto Rico in the 1840's and raised their family there.

We think Niall may have been R1b-ZZ87 descendant from next SNP above him, R1b-DF105; dated around 250 CE. These SNPs are downstream (descendant of) M222.

    Known to generations of Dublin schoolkids as Niall of the Nine Sausages. In my 4th class (= 6th grade to Americans) we could relate to this ancestral character because among us we had some of our own surreptitious sausage-takers, one of whom turned out to be an endlessly hungry kid called Niall. While all else that we learned about our early history fades from memory, some things stick.

    When the power of the Gaelic clans in Ireland was broken by the Tudors in the early 17th c, and in the couple of centuries following, the warrior class of Irish society fled the country in huge numbers & became a major presence in the soldiery & particularly in the officer class of many European countries, especially the Catholic ones who were enemies of the Brits. Many of the former Irish gentry hoped through these ties to eventually lead a successful rebellion & expel the British. This resistance was especially embodied in the clans of the north like O'Neill & O'Donnell. Maybe their presence in large numbers in the Spanish military has a connection with the prevalence of this gene in Spanish-speaking places, along with the large numbers of Gaels displaced to the Carribbean.

      the spelling of my surname varies greatly,through almost 200 years of British census records.Neal,Neild,O'Neil,O'Neill,O'Neal,and O'Neall,were used.I am O'Neil.This may be down to the interpretation or spelling used by the recorder of the compillers.We must remember that many of past generations could not write their names.And the dropping the two lls at the end of surname could have been because it anglisised the name somewhat.Or in my family's case my Great,Great Grandfather marrying a prodestant wife. This would have been around 1840.Also we must consider how catholics were persicuted at this time.I know my own family were stoned on a Sunday,travelling from Flint in N.Wales,to Holywell to the catholic church.The stoning took place in a village called Bagillt,with lies between the two towns.Their mode of transport was donkey and cart.
      This recollection was passed down verbally by an old aunt.
