I agree I'd like to see them do this for PH and Dressrosa, although even if they cut Dressrosa's runtime in half it'd still be over 52 episodes, a whole year without new OP episodes 😭

1:28 Omg I felt like I was crazy for thinking the pacing felt jarring at times with really weird editing, if you say a single negative thing about it people act like: "OP fans so used to bad pacing they can't handle good pacing 🤣🤣🤣🤣" (i mean it's mostly on twitter anyway so whatever). But yeah i totally think the same, it's not awful but it sometimes feels like it's going fast for the sake of going fast, I felt the same thing with DBZ Kai but it was handled better imo. But like you said we're only at the beginning so let's see i guess.
Nah you completely right. This is going very fast, and the perfect balance would be in-between. I don't think this pretend to be a "good pacing version", this is just a bonus remastered version, so I won't really blame them for that. Btw I'm creating my own "One Paced" version so I have a very good idea of what a normal pacing looks like ; my version doesn't go that fast. (Outside the fact that I cannot change the musics like the studio, even including that fact). One piece manga has too many informations per page/ chapter to be able to put 2 chapter per episode.
They have no choice. Oda is not making chapters at the pace he used to and Toei works months ahead in advance getting teams together to make all the episodes. These special episodes are not replacements for the original episodes. Some beautifully animated scenes are removed, some lovely establishing shots as well, those original episodes were made with that pacing in mind. Of course cutting it up will leave you with a bit of a jarring product, but they have the timeslot and they must produce in their contract agreement with Fuji Television. When the anime returns I don't expect the pacing to magically match this special edition because that will have them stuck with the same problem catching up with the source material. A lot of people do not realise this but many of the "canon" episodes actually have a lot of filler added to flesh out the manga. Sometimes 2 chapter cover stories are extended to 10 minutes of great anime original material like the episodes showing what the straw hats did when they were flown off by Kuma in the Sabaody Archipelago arc. The staff is not just drawing out scenes by leaving it running on a shot which is the impression many have I think even without ever having watched One Piece. 90% of the Lucci vs Luffy fight in Egghead in the Anime is anime original or "filler". They not only do this for fights but many of the sequences such as before mentioned establishing shots, character acting moments, mood pieces etc... Some of the best episodes in recent memory like 1015 only adapt like half a chapter. Adapting less pages than 2 or 3 chapters worth does not automatically mean bad. I for one am of the opinion that even with its flaws the One Piece anime greatly elevates the material regularly using its pacing, mood, music, composition, voice acting and embellishments. I mean that without disrespect for Oda, I see it as a companion piece, a true adaptation.
Highly agree with you, even rough arcs like FMI have beautiful moments. and the remaster kinda ruined luffy punching the pacifista with faster pacing (minus some reaction shots)
Even if Oda did keep with the schedule of 1 chapter a week, the anime would still need to do this since ~3 manga chapters per episode is what most modern seasonal shows are doing today.
@ you don’t have to adapt 3 chapters per episode even though other studios or other animes do it. That’s actually a logical Argumentum ad populum fallacy. They haven’t done that for quite a long time now and it has resulted in some great episodes with filler and direction added that can far exceed the manga. Moreover it was weekly not seasonal, I’m sure hoping it will be weekly again or at least 30 per year when it returns. Either way it’s not a solid argument because no chapter is alike. Some chapters have tons and tons of text balloons, others do not. You can’t just force an arbitrary number of chapters into an episode.
@@JKSmith-qs2iieven if it’s not 3 chapters each episode, the average episode should still be more than 1 manga chapter. I refuse to believe that maintaining a strict 1 chapter per episode ratio is correct. Therefore, no matter what Oda does, the anime will catch up to him.
@@onlywei I get it-if you'd prefer more chapters in one episode, that's totally fine. The early One Piece anime adapted about 3 chapters per episode. However, I feel Oda’s storytelling has grown denser over time, with more intricate panels and material, making chapters increasingly richer for anime adaptation. The anime staff now excels regularly at turning fleeting manga panels that manga readers gloss their eyes over for half a second into cinematic moments. I’ve been watching One Piece weekly since around 2015. While there were times, around Dressrosa particularly, when Toei struggled to stretch one chapter into a compelling 17-20 minute episode, they’ve since mastered expanding the manga content into full episodes. They still vary the pace-adapting more or less than a chapter as needed. This year’s average was 1.5 chapters per episode, with added content like extended fight scenes (e.g., Galaxy Impact, Lucci vs. Luffy), which fans seemed to enjoy. We will never return to the 45 episodes per year I realise that but I’d selfishly hate to see the anime go seasonal (e.g., 13 episodes per year) because it might lose its place in ongoing discourse. Weekly episodes create a unique collective watching experience around the world revolved around a single narrative. Whereas many seasonal shows die a week after the next season rolls in in terms of discourse. But to each their own of course, have a great day!
I think this is fine to rewatch but to watch it for the first time... This is the return from the timeskip, this is the part that needs to be impactful the most. You can't rush and cut lines on how the strawhats reunite! You can't cut shots of their introduction after two years! So yeah One Pace will always be the goat
While I enjoy the faster pace, I agree that some cuts are jarring and the Pacifista punch felt off. But have you considered this: Rayleigh looks more stunning than ever.

For those saying one piece is too slow paced, then wth is the problem with this remake? How do u expect the slow pace to be fixed without cutting parts?
Although we do not like slow pacing , that doesn't mean that we like fast pacing . They cut some scenes to the point where you can't really understand how they happen anymore like ussop shooting fake nami without showing her threatning nami with a gun or showing sanji immidiately simping for women without showing him arriving at sabaody first !

I think my main problems is that they cut dialogue and interactions. It's prefectly okay and probably necesary to cut on panning shots and countless still images that get reused again and again, but cutting things just for the sake of it is just creating another problem entirely. Edit: the too darkening art corrections kinda feel off too. But that may be because I'm used to picturing those scenes in the previos lighting in my mind, who knows.

YES! We definitely need a better adaptation. So far, I am really enjoying the arc now. The original? Not so much. Pacing, art, jokes, action, … everything is so much enjoyable!
I remember when nami was confronting the fake luffy, it completely skipped the fake Nami approaching her and talking trash. But it did show the fake nami next to her after a jarring cut.
I am not against remastering the toei series, but I think the focus should be on a remake like netflixes 'The One Piece' animation. Of course I still have my reservations on that series specifically until we see the first season and have a solid foundation to grade its quality.
Well the animation and art is much greater. But there are 2 points I'm concerned about: 1-The old animators really understood how to animate fights pretty well. Fights like, katakuri, doffy, and the other are well made and there is an understanding of how haki works as oda drew it in the manga that it's well done. In the new animation, the fights are good, but the animation is horrible, like gear 5 vs kadio is so chaotic, the dragon ball auras when conquerors haki was supposed to only have black lightning effects and nothing more. 2-Even though the pacing was horrible, some of the filler scenes in episodes do not affect the storyline and are very much appreciated. This makes me believe that the old animators understood the characters so much that they knew to make a non canon scene that fits them so well you wouldn't know it's non canon. Examples include the extra dialogue in rayleigh remembering rogers first meeting, way back in the skypekia arc, were luffy was imitating zoro, luffy finding shade in alabasta, and so on.
it figures this would start RIGHT after i finish Fishman Island lol. personally i loved the arc, but god the anime pacing was the worst it’s ever been here, aside from maybe Thriller Bark. but yeah, Fishman Island was my last straw and i’ve since switched to One Pace. feels great so far
this is Toei admitting the mistake of making OP weekly rather than seasonal, and it took both the fans (one pace) and a megacorporation (the one piece) doing it right for them to notice.
I only saw the first one they put out in the 'return to Sabaody' part, and was blown away by how badly it was done. The flow was nonexistent. I guess it is one of my favorite 'humorous' sections of the anime and they cut most of that... That episode had improved artwork but I feel that someone that decided to watch that after the post-Marineford episodes would be utterly confused. DBZ Kai got rid of literal garbage, while this removed fun. The One Pace project did phenomenally better with this particular material. Now, if that was the worst part of the remaster and everything else improves, I could see myself trying out the next few episodes to see how they did. I'm hoping that they started out with an abysmal dud compared to the rest of the remaster, and that could be the case.
the pacing is weird, and it feels like a show whose dialogue has been cut. It's still better than the original anime, but it could be better. For example, when the crew finally got on the ship, Sanji was on the deck bleeding, and Ussop or Chopper (i dont remember which one) was holding him. Then in the next scene when they were looking at the ocean or some fish Sanji was up for some reason and spoke 1-2 lines. Then suddenly something else happened and Sanji is back lying on the deck in Ussop or Chopper's arm. I was like wtf.
It doesn't feel balanced. The really bloom-y style is nice, but just applying it like a filter messes with the composition. In the Scene where Robin and Franky reunite she blends right into the ship because the new artstyle messes up the shading/depth. Reaction shots and a LOT of lingering need to be cut down, but that really varies year by year. In that same scene, Franky flashily introduces himself then Robin immediately says "You haven't changed at all!"-- The reveal of the RADICAL Franky redesign, and the buildup of Robin looking mildly shocked as the camera awkwardly lingers is ESSENTIAL for the comedic timing. First-time viewers of Fishman-Island might miss the joke entirely. Moments later, there (SHOULD) be this big tension building sequence of Franky explaining how Brook may not come back. Franky projects confidence and coolness while he relays this information, and his eyes are shaded while he smiles and finishes the thought. He dramatically slumps into his big deck-chair and takes a swig of cola while he explains. Soooo much of this sequence is cut that Franky seems to just be lackadaisically stating that Brook may be lost to them, rather than being considerate and keeping his cool while breaking some hard news. Not to mention there's a continuity error about the movement of his cola bottle/s in this re-cut. I hope that the director was either having an off-week, or this was an opportunity for someone with little experience to get a feel for the role... It was enough for me to completely give up the remastering. Is the original anime great- not most of the time. My answer remains the same-- just stick to the comic. If this is the quality of the remastering we can expect, then it should be done only sparingly, if at all. Dressrosa's slowness is definitely awful enough to warrant this kind of rushed cut-and-glue treatment. THE One Piece not covering the full-series, and stopping around the timeskip makes sense. It'll be up to them, then in the far-off future, but (even if the pacing still varies) reanimating Wano and Egghead seems like a fruitless task.
They trimmed out time from certain scenes that was good pacing, or good anticipation moment before something happens. Which feels weird now. Instead of cutting out bad pacing bits, they did, but along with cannon context from the manga. It's a bit of a mess besides how good it looks. I'm only waiting for the fight scenes, the rest I really don't watch it.
Absolutely not. I can think of several arcs that deserve a remake way more. I swear, it feels like they did a remake of Fishman Island once before already. If anything, they could cut out the antagonists from the arc, compress it, and would be a lot better. Cause let’s face it, the New Fishman Pirate’s were less threatening and impressive than most East Blue Saga antagonists. Why not remake an arc that has filler splattered about, or rework Wano without those annoying episodes meant to pad episode count and give unnecessary reiteration. There was no need for the Onigashima Raid to contain nearly 15 recap episodes. Heck, I’d be all in for a remake of Long Ring Long Island with the like 100 filler episodes tossed in the trash. That arc is like less than 10 chapter in the manga.
people complaining is beyond me, they explicitly says this is only a time filler because the current egghead is on a long hiatus do people prefer they not gonna give us anything till the current anime continued in april 2025? people acts like they pay a concert ticket to a free concert dont like it dont watch it, simple its a glorified recap afterall
No. It was too slow before for most people. Then they rushed through. We wanted a middle ground. We dont need an arc of 58 episodes to be shortened to a third of that. We just want the multishot reactions, the quiet scenes where nothing is happening, people walking for a long time to be cut out. Cut out the refreshers and the repeated scenes. Cutting it from 58 episodes to 40 seems way more reasonable. Or wano from 200 to 120-140
@@DariusPeters-t1z a genuine question, you do know which side is left ? Because if you do and still think the original was better, I'm seriously questioning your taste
My thought on it is that its an awful remaster. A lot of stuff were cutted out, character keep transporting out of nowhere because the middle scene were cut. One thing i can give props is that they were actually redrawn some scene and the filter look beautiful. But overall its just shittier version of One Pace, should not be someone first time watch
@jklum7895 Worse than this remaster? Why tho? Unlike One Pace this remaster actually cut out a lot of manga panels. It's not only one or two, a bunch of them
@@mustofaakmal7493 besides how unprofessional their editing is, they cut very good parts, they literally cut Luffy's gear 5 transformation, and Lucci's transformation. And the transitions were just so off with abrupt interruptions to soundtracks
@@jklum7895they’re way too dogmatic in keeping it true to the manga. Almost like they are trying their best to avoid Toei looking good in their creative interpretations and adaptations of scenes. Purpose of anime is to enhance the manga and almost all the good additions are removed by one pace.
I'd argue that the visuals look worse. Fixing bad frames is one thing but just slapping the wano filter on it and calling it a day doesn't make it better and actively makes it worse. Why are the shadows so heavy? Why is every character's skin glowing? Old looked better for the most part.
I skipped this arc so I don't mind. Remember that this isn't for us, it's for Oda and his team to work ahead on other projects. If they made this remake as spectacular as the animation we've witnessed so far in Wano and Egghead, then it'd only take that quality away from the future animations we get

Now, if that was the worst part of the remaster and everything else improves, I could see myself trying out the next few episodes to see how they did. I'm hoping that they started out with an abysmal dud compared to the rest of the remaster, and that could be the case.
The pacing felt Abit to fast at times I guess since we are used to the slow pacing so it might be just that if I’m being honest
I agree but, I feel whole cake also needs to be remastered (just an opinion) so the animation can fit in with the other arcs
People who hating this has some valid criticism but they still honestly spoiled.
the pacing is weird, and it feels like a show whose dialogue has been cut.
Which side is the original and which is the remake? I think the original is better
Where are those people shouting one piece could be done in 400 episodes?
Where are they now??
They trimmed out time from certain scenes that was good pacing, or good anticipation moment before something happens. Which feels weird now.
Instead of cutting out bad pacing bits, they did, but along with cannon context from the manga. It's a bit of a mess besides how good it looks. I'm only waiting for the fight scenes, the rest I really don't watch it.
Did bro just Diss Vegapunk 🗿🤣🤣" Don't be perfectionist" it a jokes chill 🤣🤣🤣
I mean we don't know if they'll do more, arcs like dressrosa can heavily benefit from that
I wonder if it will ever be dubed
people complaining is beyond me, they explicitly says this is only a time filler because the current egghead is on a long hiatus
do people prefer they not gonna give us anything till the current anime continued in april 2025?
people acts like they pay a concert ticket to a free concert
dont like it dont watch it, simple
its a glorified recap afterall
Toei really got op fans with Stockholm syndrome for their god awful pacing
Or wano from 200 to 120-140
We don't need this but we have no choice 😭
yes
I don’t mind
This is pointless. They should have just took a hiatus and played reruns.
No, it was never suppost to be made in the first place.
It just feels off and that it wasn't really necessary.
no, and classic one piece sheep mentality people are rating the remake way to highly
Copium to the max degree.
Am sorry but from that thumbnail they mad robin look worse 😭
Nah you are tripping her face is completely squashed in the old one (left)
@FrankEShaw05 nah, the original is helluva lot prettier
@@DariusPeters-t1z a genuine question, you do know which side is left ? Because if you do and still think the original was better, I'm seriously questioning your taste
@@micow9951 fine question my tastes idc let me be happy
Objectively bad take
Just skip it
My thought on it is that its an awful remaster. A lot of stuff were cutted out, character keep transporting out of nowhere because the middle scene were cut. One thing i can give props is that they were actually redrawn some scene and the filter look beautiful. But overall its just shittier version of One Pace, should not be someone first time watch
Disagree one the One Pace part, one pace is significantly worse
Old looked better for the most part.
no it isnt
they shouldve reanimate blue east and fishmen island amk
Nah the art was at its best around then
As an avid Fishman Island Hater no no it wasn't.
I skipped this arc so I don't mind.
Remember that this isn't for us, it's for Oda and his team to work ahead on other projects.
If they made this remake as spectacular as the animation we've witnessed so far in Wano and Egghead, then it'd only take that quality away from the future animations we get
@@blablableep6811 skipping a one piece arc is shameful ngl, especially considering how important this arc is lore wise
@jklum7895 silly
