Just ran something really similar to this. Ethereal builds get manawall, and that stuff is ridiculous, so I opted to use it. Manawall helm and boots enchanted with aegis. You can rock either manawall armor with aegis, or green copal with spirit of berg for more damage. Wear dusk backpack for 5 more barrier. Breakthroughs are ritualist, hex, and rogue. With the amount of barrier we get, even without placing down totems, most magic in the game can’t hurt us. Rogue helps us dodge around to avoid status building up. Could go shaman for more damage or even rune for a bit more protection. Take holy mission for ethereal damage and the extra protection. You might think to run academy for infuse mana, but that skills a trap. In order for an infuse skill to outdamage a varnish, before buffs are considered, the weapon needs to be dealing about 40 base damage. Geps blade deals 20. You only lose out on damage, defense, and all the other QOL from holy mission, gaining nothing in the process. Weapons are the same. Geps blade with a varnish destroys the game already, and elemental vulnerability and haunt are going to give us some ridiculous DPS against bosses stacked with our ethereal damage bonuses. Fully buffed and inside totems, we reach 30 protection and 40 barrier. That on top of weakened and sapped, most enemies in the game can’t hurt you, bosses included. With this setup, we’re more than powerful enough without totems. Even without buffs, we should be sitting around 20ish protection. Outside of the tougher open world enemies (shell horrors, chimeras, etc…) everything will be dealing negligible damage if any.
@@newbornhollow this comment is basically that. Long story short: ~Manawall armor - aegis enchant ~Geps blade - molepig sigh ~Palladium shield OR chimera pistol for elemental vulnerability. ~Ritualist for totems ~hex for damage and torment ~rogue for backpack dodge ~holy mission for passives That’s it really. Craft a ton of ethereal varnishes bc basically nothing resists ethereal damage. You can clear most encounters by just placing totems and hitting torment. Most things in the game outside of hidden arena bosses can’t even damage you fully buffed, and even sitting at around 20 protection is good to negate most attacks anyways. Just make sure you’re using totems and torment for harder enemies, as weakness and sapped go a long way towards making you invincible.

I play with the transmog mod and honestly, I wont go back! I hated finding that perfect piece of gear for whatever build I am working on, only to find out that it is hideous looking!
Yes ever since my 1st monster hunter game this has been my fear in games. We farm for ages, make every enchant/upgrade we can to min/max our gear than we look in the mirror and we look like crap... Thank god for the modding community
I love this build thanks Sheen! I modified the armor using antique helm and boots which also has 5% ethereal damage buff each, great defense and the copal armor with spirit of Berg enchant gives +25% ethereal damage. So powerful and I love slaying opponents in no time with this build haha 🔥🤘🏽
I personally really enjoy ethereal builds but I tend to lean more to a melee-focused build. EG: Hex Mage (or Hermit), Primal Ritualist, and Warrior Monk. Primal Ritualist for the tankiness, and the automatic Haunted + Doomed. Combo with torment to sapped+weaken enemies, or spam rupture at range with impunity. With the fabulous shield you would have -50% resistance to lightning and ethereal on enemies, and I usually go with Holy Mission for the light infuse. Then armor would usually be some combination of Copal, Silver, Runic, Tenebrous, Manawall or Antique Plate armor with relevant enchants (White arcane hood is also a contender). If you dont like shields: You could also use halberds instead, Moon Swipe hits like a truck. Virgin halberd with spectres wail does similar things but less ethereal damage (more physical), and the Dreamer Halberd just hits very hard overall and has faster attack speed, but no explosions. Otherwise the Frozen Chakram inflicts elemental vulnerability, so pair it with Geps blade instead of a shield. Chakram skills are easier to spam compared to shield charge as well. Alternatively use pistols for off hand, you can combo with lightning sigil (so instead of hex mage get hermit). Chimera Pistol works well with a lightning+ethereal build. This build leads more heavily into lightning instead of ethereal though so may want to pair it with the radiant wolf sword, or astral axe (4x hexes for torment to take advantage of), or virgin weapons (Priests Prayers).
I'm currently playing a similar build. Same weapon and shield, antique plate helm + boots and green copal armor. Hex, Cabal and Monk. Blue chamber, ez 180 health and stamina + 65 mana. 50% stamina reduction from gear + tent = infinite run. Tomorrow i will enter Caldera. Can't wait to get mana infuse and the tehnique to become unstopable.
This build needs Shamanic Resonance and Mist boon. I added infuse wind for highest speed and more impact, but I'm not so sure about that because I run out of stamina often. I was using the two-handed version, now I'll try the one-handed and maybe it will be better. I think I will go for Mercenary and Warrior Monk. Not sure about the faction yet. The Ornate Bone Shield seems like a good option too.
It was really surprising how good these two items were on their own. Gep's blade is one of the few Calder weapons that hardly has any downside. Considering how rare it is to fight ethereal damage.
using the speedster skill tree instead of the spell blade would be crazy. i think thats what im going to try on my next build thanks for the great idea
the Tenebrous Helm doesn’t look bad with the full set, but it doesn’t match with other armor tho. it looks better with female character models as well. looks derpy as hell on the men.
Nice video ! :) To have this build more optimised you should have Green Copal Armor & spirit of berg + Manawall boots&helm ;) I love this shield too. While you already have The Technique, a little Rainbow Hex saber would be a great addon ;)
It's cool to see little variations of this build but with hexes or maybe with a couple different armor sets. What I love about ethereal-based builds is that they are often very similar, but the armor still makes you think twice before choosing.
@@SheenShots The great thing about this game is that you tend to combine stuff in order to have the best perfs .Buuuut , this game is so well balanced that you always have to "un-combine" best perfs in order to have the lesser bad side effects ... Yes, however, I have saved that entire armor set for a different weapon altogether. Because Geps blade is so easy to use it can be thrown into many different builds and still put in good work. So I worried less about damage for this run and just let the tool do its thing lol.
Nice guide! I just started playing and your videos have been very fun and helpful ❤, i was wondering if the faction really matters on this build? Or if this one is the best way to go for sure🤔

I Imagine most of us here steer away from Gep's blade, or it might just be me, in summary It's OP it breaks the game at some point, not as much as other Builds but if a Build is lacking in Many Departments Gep's blade overcomes all of it by simply being there. Black plate helm, might not sound much but it Carries the Enchant that Boost Ethereal Damage.
It really is a little too good. Use it with anything and you can get through the game. I have an idea for using the orichalcum helm actually. Pretty good enchant on it that you mentioned.
Do you think Rune Sage is mandatory? Was wondering if I could get away with it with Mercenary, Speedster and Warrior/Monk, thoughts? Sorry I'm a new player still don't know much about the game
I am thinking of a Gep's Blade and lighting gun build with Primal Ritualist. Thinking I might have to go with Speedster as the third tree. Chimera Pistol and the two totem will give you - 50 resist to both elements.
And if you are taking primal ritualist you get some extra defense and the ability to block projectiles. So your mobility would be pretty good for using guns.
New player here. Kinda confused with this build. Seems like the actual build isn’t very dependent on any of the skill trees? Is that correct? I was thinking about going Wild hunter, cabal hermit and kazite spell blade or warrior monk.
Watched some of this live and absolutely loved it. However I can't seem to find the bit where you said to check the previous video about which skill tree to take? Unsure if Hex Mage or Cabal would be better? Thank you
Ah I believe I know what you mean. So kazite spellsblade is pretty bad here as it does not offer much to the build. I recommend taking hex instead for that excellent negation of burnt stats. Cabal hermit as works as it always does, but hex will make for a very fun playthrough.
Hi i'm a noob so i have some questions. Wouldn't Levant be the better faction for the big damage boost? And if i would pick Levant instead of Sorobrean, should i still only pick 2 mana or should i pick 3 then? Also how does the Runic chest compare to the Tenebrous? Because i'd rather match with the rest of the Tenebrous outfit (fashion) and i dislike the debuff in movement speed and stamina of the Runic armour. Also after Mercernary and Rune Sage you said to either pick Cabal Hermit or Hex Mage, but why and what skills would you pick then? Like Wind Infuse or Wind Sigil? Blood Sigil or Rupture?
There is always the argument for levant because it has the damage buff. Outward however is unique in that pure damage is often beat out by a build that is easy to use. Sorobor is mainly to increase how often you can use shield skills. I would recommend not changing to levant, but it really is fine to switch if you must. Runic chest is far better mainly due to the enchant on it and some physical defense is going to be helpful for when the shield doesn't get put up in time. Here again, if you play well enough with the shield tenebrous is definitely better if even only for fashion. Cabal hermit is the undisputed best skill tree as its passive grants WAY more damage and stagger. Which stagger is king above all else. So that's what I would pick and wind sigil because your sword is already as fast as it needs to be without wind infuse. Hex mage is awesome as well for elemental damage, but playing while constantly at low levels of tired is not that enjoyable personally.
@@SheenShots Thanks for the elaborate answer. Only one thing is that i read on the wiki that the Tenebrous chest can have the same enchantment as the Runic chest is that wrong or does it still not change anything in which one i should pick?
Yes that could work. But I will be honest here and say its not recommended. The reason I recommend skycrown mace is because it has very unfair impact for a one handed weapon. On top of being fast. The Runic Armor received some extra stats I DE that make it worth it here, but not quite as much before. You could also run manawall but I have a different build idea in mind for that set lol.

you make good videos. but what is the point of this min maxing in a singleplayer game?
Why not ?
How dare you speak ill of the most powerful ability in this game!!! Gong Strike for the win🙃
I have seen so many people use it in their shield builds. I just can't seem to get much use out it it. I actually took it for an entire run during this build and only used it twice before packing it away in my inventory forever 😅. Safe to say its not my forte.

Haunt hex?
Would also be a very good addition.
try out the bone pistol. applies 100% haunt and also does ethereal damage
