I would have thought you could have put WiFi details in a wpa_supplicant file in the boot folder on the SD card? That works for other Raspberry Pi OS distros :)
@retrofriends everytime I boot up I get an "error: xdg_runtime_dir not set in the environment" message (even when I quit amiberry). Although technically the software is working, it's very annoying. This message also shows when I switch between Amiga configs and quit Amiberry. If I change the dietpi screen resolution to anything but opengl, it freezes the software which means I cannot get back into diet pi to reset the resolution, but stops the error message. Anyone got any ideas on this?
I have tried many times to install dietp and have found it very slow and clunky. I have installed many Linux distros, but this one is the most difficult and the least user friendly. But in the end after many tries I was able to get the pi400 working with your help.
Really helpful video thanks. I've set mine as 040/128/8chip with rtg. It's a great system and looks great in 1024:768. I love using OS classic, so using 3.2. However, if I leave a game running from whdload, after a while it quits uae back to the Linux command line. Amy thoughts? Also I need to remember how to use Snoopdos, they may help.
So AmiBerry is crashing. I don't know if I've ever had that happen to me. No known issue that I know of. That's the thing with emulators, you just have to keep trying different settings until you get the closest one. I guess it goes back to the definition of an emulator.
@@retrofriends Actually, tried again this morning just on the intro screen of a game. What does happen, is that it quits ALL the way to the dietpi terminal login screen. So would that not indicate it is quitting UAE altogether? I would have thought the Amiga crashing would put me back to the UAE UI?
Great tutorial! However, I have a problem with Amiberry on DietPi on Raspberry pi 400. The mouse works in the Amiberry window, but not in the game or workbench. In games, only the right and left mouse buttons work, but I can't move the cursor. Versions: Amiberry v5.3, SDL2 v2.24.0, DietPi ARM v8. I also tried on other versions of DietPi and it was the same.
Got to the point where it connects to my wired lan downloads all the stuff then asks loads of questions about the amiberry package. Not sure what to select ... on my third go and still not booting into the Amiberry screen. pi400 16gb memory card.
I wonder if the makers of DietPi added something, because as you see in the video, I don't think there were any Amiberry questions. Perhaps you can download the previous version? I would pose your concerns to the DietPi developer. They were very responsive to my questions, even before I revealed that I was making a video. I am curious about those extra questions...
@@stephenwoods4175 Well, you can't use SSH for that because It is simply a remote way to access the OS command line. I recommend you look at the DietPi website for more info. I am not a part of their development team - I consider myself an Amiga expert, not a Linux expert. I do know you can install and enable anything you want if you are familiar with Linux (RaspberryPi OS technically). Options include file server, an NVR, VPN, Wi-Fi hotspot, router, etc. etc. The purpose of this video is to show how to use DietPi in the simplest way possible.
@@stephenwoods4175 Of course, it's a full Amiga emulation. Use exactly the same methods outlined by others to install WHDLoad. So many tutorials on it, that I felt redundant including it.
dietpi includes dropbear software for file transfers but it connection is always refused, the same when i install open ssh it refuses to accept it. Any ideas how this is done?
How funny is that? I used to hate how noisy the internal drive was on my 1200 and now people are emulating it because they miss it!!! What's next? Buying a square 2 button mouse that gives you cramps??? Lol
Couldn't you not simply just download and install Recalbox on your microSD, chuck the relevant bios files in the relevant folder.......and thats it, job done in 10 mins. Setup finished, and you can decide if you want an Amiga A500, A1200, CDTV, or CD32, all setup and ready to go? It will also accept .adf and whdload games "out the wrapper" unlike a lot of other setups.
Does Recalbox work with all models of Raspi including the 400? I think the method outlined in my video can be done in less than 15 minutes. DietPi uses Amiberry, so all models of Amiga, adf, whdload, etc are supported.
@@retrofriends Hi, yes, Recalbox works perfectly well with every variant from Pi2 up to Pi400, but unlike your setup, it is aimed primarily at people who just want to play games, and not bother with the full Amiga "experience" that us fellow Amiga owners were used to. It was just to mention an alternative IF just booting up the games was the main objective tbh. Keep up the good work.
Recalbox is at the moment NOT working on Raspberry Pi 400, at least not on mine... And as I can see on their forum, I'm not the only one. But I think it is just a question of time.
@@Iggyman007 There is an updated 7.1.1 download on their homepage specifically for the Pi 4 & 400 only, and there are lots of users who are having no issues. @@smurphoid Hey Stephen, would I be able to pick your brains on getting my Amiga games working on PI400 via Recalbox? Probably a couple of easy questions!
@@andydavidson1278 Indeed. Also remember the pi400 has the built-in keyboard, a similar configuration to the Amiga 500. The a500 mini has a fake keyboard 🤮
I never understood anything about dietpi and you made it look so easy. Thank you Amiberry is running great!
Amikit coming soon to Pi4 / Pi400!

Are you going to do the same thing but with Atari computer emulation?
@@samuelbanya no sorry, Amiga is my thing, Atari is not.
Right now Fs uae with arcade in Twister os has me set. But you have to set up open al if you want audio.
Can you show using whd load too?

Perfekt ! Endlich... Ich sage Danke für dieses Tutorial!
Froh, dass ich Helfen kann (used google to translate "glad to help". Kein deutsch sprechen)
Great tutorial. I'd like to use my pi400 as an Amiga as well.
I have a hd image with thousands of whdload games.
This is cool!

Now if we could do this with an Atari ST emulator, is this possible?
I would look into RetroPie. That seems to have an emulator for everything.

A lot of faffing about with loading usb and moving kickstarts and games. Couldn't you use the network to transfer files?
The makers of all these Amiberry distros always include a file manager for a reason.
