How to Hike Annie's Canyon Trail, San Diego's Only Slot Canyon

- Annie’s Canyon Trail, located in Solana Beach, CA is a unique hike because it takes you through San Diego's only slot canyon. This hike winds through a beautiful slot canyon with a couple of sandstone caves, narrow walls, moderate climbs, and ladders. It is one of the great things to do with family or couples in San Diego. Along the hike, you also get spectacular views of the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve. Since it was established, Annie’s Canyon Trail has become a popular hike for all different types of hikers including beginners and children. The slot canyon section is not that hard but it can be a bit challenging for smaller children, bigger dogs, or those who are not used to steep inclines and declines.

We were just there yesterday, and yes I got claustrophobic big time, and it was really intense. Glad we did it, and it was just beautiful.

Good to know this cool slot canyon trail right here in California. I love those slot canyons in Utah and Arizona, but great to get somewhere closer to home. Thanks for sharing. Any good trails in Half Moon Bay area?!
Utah has epic slot canyons. That is where we usually go canyoneering. We havent spent much time in the Half Moon Bay area but we are hoping to head up the coast soon!

Annie's Canyon is NOT the only slot canyon in San Diego county. There are longer slot canyons in the Anza Borrego park.

The AB slot is a cool one too. We have been there several times
It's all washed out from the last big rains. Probably be fixed by next summer.

Where’s the best parking for Annie’s canyon trail?
