- Welcome back to Najac. While we explored the medieval town last week, this week we’ll be exploring the large medieval fortress ruin! After the Albigensian Crusade the castle was completely rebuilt to emphasize royal control. The result is a huge castle with its keep up to 40 meters high! We start our investigation in the outer courtyard where the remains of the Seneschal’s audience hall are still visible with beautiful ornate windows. We then make our way inside the main castle. These days it’s mostly an empty shell, but it’s evident this was a strong fortress in its day. An important feature are the almost 7 meters long arrow slits, which are the longest in the word! As we make our way up the keep we stumble upon a secret passage that leads from the chapel to the lord’s bedroom. The bedroom was a luxurious room with large windows and a fireplace. Eventually we make it all the way to the top of the keep for an amazing vantage point over the town and the valley. Hope you enjoy!

Fascinating, you guys never disappoint, hard to believe it was built in ten years thank you
Astonishing indeed. Thanks for your comment and watching 👍
Wow... what a well preserved tower... finally a ruin that doesn't have a destroyed tower or the facade preserved almost to the top... or simply rebuilt
Probably restored somewhat, though not completely 😊
Thank you for the lovely tour of this magnificent place 👍
Thank you for joining us!
Arbitrary subjective castle score of 10. Best ruined castle I have seen yet on this channel, but I'm still working my way through your catalogue. Thank you!
Great score and we do agree this was one of the best castles, though you will see some other gems as you get further through our videos!
Very nice place and beautiful scenery.
We agree. Thanks for watching!
Very cool design from the long arrow slits to the meandering outer baileys.
Agreed, thanks for watching 👍
Really great castle - thanks for taking us along! I agree with mother-in-law 😊
Never argue with mother in law 😁

Thanks so much!
You really incorporated the information on arrow slits from the person who commented on that a few days ago. Nice job! It's one of the best preserved overall with various elements still visible, I agree 9.75.
Great score! And the incorporating of the info on arrow slits must be said it's more of a happy coincidence. The video was already completed before that comment was posted haha
@@TheHistoryHikers that's true honesty about the arrow slits coincidence! And just to say, thank you for taking time to always reply to comments in such a thoughtful way. I think you do this better than most RUclipsrs, it seems like you are intelligent people paying close attention to the comments of each person and replying precisely to what they said, really engaging fully with your followers. Bravo for that!
Thanks, we try! We like interacting with the people that enjoy seeing these places as much as us.
