Thanks to our growing Patreon community, we are able to cover the cost of equipment rentals and Cypress Trees for our chateau garden renovation!
Patreon funding goes directly toward renovating the historical Chateau de Lesigny!
Special thanks to our dear Patrons: Jesse, Bernadette, Theo, and Morgan for your outstanding support of this Beau Chateau!
You can help support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community and gain access to exclusive videos, updates and more!
Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we complete odd jobs around the domain as we prepare for the cold winter ahead. We visit the local Christmas market in our village, and Daphne shows Ian a hidden room!
Our "beau chateau" (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!
You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!
    Produced by Daphne and Ian

Special Thanks to Rafael Jimenez for sharing his talent on the violin!

It would be really cool if you could put together a video that shows the particular scenes from movies that your Chateau has been used in! Show the scenes, and then the actual space. The lead in your window safe if you use simple precautions. Wash your hands after working with it. it is only harmful if the lead is very very crumbly and it has deteriorated to fine dust, then you would need to wear a face mask. I've work with molten lead and have been tested a number of times and never had a problem.
A profession would replace a broken piece the same way you did, by bending back the lead cane, inserting the glass and bending back the cane. Smooth out the cane with a piece of smooth wood, re-solder the corner, putty the glass for a weather seal, add lamp black to color it. You could also add metal rods along the cane line to stiffen the glass and protect the glass from any more bowing. Small wires through the cane will tie the rod to the glass, solder in place and color them as well. If the cane is still malleable, you may not need to replace it, Some tightening, re-putty on a flat surface may do the trick. A lovely window. the weather is its worst enemy. Could protect it to with a clear glass on the outside. It is interesting that it is the one side sagging more so then the other. Does it get more sun. Or is that the side that people use to come in or out.
    Thanks for the videos.

I reckon the sort of secret room was a kids’ ‘secret space’. As a kid, I had a secret attic bedroom, which one accessed via a spiral staircase hidden behind the coats in a (very Narnia inspired) ‘hidden panelled’ closet door… so super cool! This is an amazing channel, I love watching you guys slowly but surely get the chateau completed - it's going to take a few more years!!! Trees will always need support in the early months anyway, but also, I think the reason the trees started to sag is because you didn't stand on the root ball to push and press it into the ground before covering it - that's a tried and trusted method developed over hundreds of years!!! I will always trust proven history over modern-day science!! Keep up the good work!!! The garden is going to look lovely, but personally, I think you planted the cypress trees too close to the edges!! 🙂

I wonder if the 'thorny bushes' were Hawthorns? They get beautiful blossoms in spring and red berries the birds love in autumn. It may have been a hedge that over grew, you can let it sprout back up, if it comes back and keep it trimmed? Be careful not to rip too much out too fast in case you lose something that takes a long time to get established. I can't wait to see how the garden comes along, I just love the semi circular terrace in the woods!

Those fencing posts you took out might be better for staking your cypress trees. We planted a few and they got badly chewed by, deer or wild boar. We have now protected them and they have recovered well. Hope yours don’t get chewed

Ian's fake out with the thorn bush winning was hilarious! Don't give in!🤣 This hidden room is fascinating - I wonder what the original structure looked like, as that ceiling is one of a grander room.

Seems like the little room is made inside an original grand room with beautiful ceilings and big windows that perhaps would be fun to recuperate?

    • @TheBeauChateau
      @TheBeauChateau  Год назад +1

The ceilings are definitely connected, but we think it was part of the room between the two master suites because that one has a big fireplace and seems oddly narrow. It would be fun to reconnect then, but it would involve completely removing the master bathroom… maybe we can find an old layout of the building from before the bathrooms were added.

If you use fresh bamboo stakes in warmer months they will take root and sprout. Bamboo is usually invasive. Perhaps you could cut a bunch of them and let them dry out over winter so they don't take over your garden.
Willow stakes will also root and become invasive.

Oh, I hope your drone was ok! Amazing how much of a difference taking out those trees by the moat made. And once again you find something hidden; a whole room you’ve never seen before. I can’t imagine how fun that must be. I have to say I think you have the happiest dog alive!! What a place to romp and play:) What does Akia (spelling?) mean and how did you choose it?

Thank you! The drone is miraculously fine! He used it right after the crash 👌 Our dog is named Archaea and she is a Swiss Shepherd. The name comes from microbiology and doesn’t have any relation to our dog, but when Ian used the term in his Kinesiology studies, he thought it was an interesting name😊

I can fully support no gardening until at least April. Currently, here in Colorado, it is -5 degrees and I'm thinking about hibernation! Luckily, I can watch your videos until it warms up!
Since the floors is half way up the windows, I'd say the bathroom used to have much high ceilings. Perhaps it was divided to save the painted beams from the humidity of the bathroom!

Ian as the handsome Prince Phillip, thrashing his way through the thorny wood to make his way to the secret room that holds Princess Aurore (Daphne) sleeping, awaiting her prince. ;-) Anyway, the secret room is quite a room. That "plafond à la française" is late 17th/early 18th century, and is quite the architectural find. It looks like a false/floor ceiling was put in to create the room below. You might want to consider taking the later addition out and restoring that whole chamber. Good work on the thorn hedge, Ian. It does look a lot better near the moat without it.

That is a great description of events 😆💕 We will look into the cost of removing the added level and bringing the room back to its original structure. We have so many projects at the moment, so we need to be patient with most of them. It would be nice to have that space opened back up 😊
