    Thanks for your knowlege and demonstrations. I guess I'll go for the mosfet option but my local electronics store is out of TP2104. Do you know of any other mosfet that would do fine ? Thanks again.

      Keeping in mind that these are guitar pedals we're dealing with, and this is not a component affecting the sound, nearly any P-Mosfet would do. Just pay attention to the pinout, and make sure that Max Vgs is greater than your zener diode voltage used for protecting the transistor. Also make sure that max VGSth (or on) is less than 9V. I did a basic search for P-channel mosfet in throughole technology and in-stock on Farnell, and it returned me 103 results. Highest Max VGSth for the lot is 5V so any would probably work. I randomly looked up VP2206N3-G ... looks good (my TP2104 which I chose the same random way :D is probably crappy in comparison to be honest, I just had it lying around). Do you have any just lying around?
