Thanx for doing the conversion on mpg and mph so your American viewers can understand two thumbs up
They teach us both in canada... Murica should do the same not saying switch over but like teach conversions at least...
@@hellbringer09 they do teach the conversation and they also teach the all the metric
@@loganswepston8978 at what grade level just curious? Cause i know a lot of people bitch here in canada that you dont learn about mortgages and financial.... But you do its just in the elective grade 12 math not the mandatory 3 years prior as an example...
@@hellbringer09 we learned about meter and kilometers and stuff from about 3rd grade all the way up till 7th just to make sure we got that stuff
@@loganswepston8978 mmm thats the same here pretty much 3-8 you get the conversions pounded into you.
These engines get great fuel mileage when you keep your foot out of them. I put a 6bt into an 85 chevy with the 5 speed getrag. With the 3.08 gears the truck had no issues getting 32mpg when I drove back n forth between sudbury and ridgeway. lake Nos bonsing is nice, used to go there for a few summers awhile ago. cheers
I'm no mechanic but know a great UT channel when I see one. You're headed toward big beautiful things. Here we go.
My family and I used to go to North Bay fishing from West Virginia. We stayed on lake Nipissing and usually fished on Red Pine Lake. I still remember carrying the boats out to Red Pine through the woods. Been talking of going back one of these days. Love the Tahoe build. I've been thinking of doing a 4BT swap into a Jeep Cherokee.
My parents leased a 2005 Yukon XL years ago but they loved it. I'd love to get one and swap in a Cummins 😂
Loved watching your videos. I just bought a 4bt my 2000 ford ranger that I've done a solid axle conversion and a couple other mods on, and watching your videos has given me some good info on what I'm getting myself into
That's an awesome truck. I have an 05 Expedition Eddie Bauer. Once the engine quits on it, a conversion is a great option.
Not really worth it in a shitty expedition a Tahoe is atleast a nice expensive car.
LOL
+Dodge 318 Cummins Well, I'm no fan of Expeditions but, jezz
@Dodge 318 Cummins Epic load of bull dude...and WTF is a 318 cummins? x_x
He was probably refering to the old dodge small block 318 gasser.
I was going to do a durmax / cummins swap in my 97 yukon . I decided to update the gen 1 sbc engine management (ecm) to gen 3 lsx forge the motor heads cam intake blahblah and a gt45 turbo.
I love it . Has diesel torque with hp of a gas motor. MPG is insane for the power it makes . Better than NA . I did buy a diesel though.
Love it! Just getting into tuning the LM7 Turbo in the Mercedes wagon now. Can't wait to see what kind of numbers its going to put out
What are you usinng hp tuners or efi live. I use hp tuners if you ever need a hand.
HP Tuner. Where are you from?
Connecticut one hour outside nyc.
Watched the whole build, enjoyed it a lot, thank you.
man imagine if i put 3.9 Cummins 4BT in my 98 half ton silverado i would keep it forever
I have the same! I think I'll run my 5.7 until it's just done and then look into getting some kind of diesel to throw in it
Awesome work buddy. I've watched this project from the beginning and it's good to hear that it's been working out well for you. I can't wait to see what's coming up.
I don't know how this channel doesn't have more subs than it does.
No shit bud I grew up in rutherglen, went swimming in benfield all the time I know that place very well... right on bud cool motor in the truck aswell. Enjoy the summer :)
I loved my Tahoe but towing a 5,000lbs camper didn't feel very secure for me since the Tahoe has a wheel length of basically a regular cab short bed 1/2 ton. I'd love to do a 4bt in my Silverado.
Awesome channel man! Ive learned so much about swapping a 4bt after watching your videos. Hopefully going to swap one into my 4runner!
Awesome! Just make sure you clean and reoil the air filter very often. When it begins to clog it restricts airflow in a big way.
I’m of the same mindset. I’d rather have a couple older vehicles than 1 really expensive newer one and a car payment. Currently thinking about selling my last project and finding something crew cab and older to put a diesel swap in. Not too many older cool looking trucks that come in crew cab. That’s my dilemma.
The fully boxed frame on the Tahoe makes towing a breeze
Nice to see that in USA there is some guys who appreciates diesel advantages, over those big under powered, insufficient petrol pumps, I drive BMW E39 3.0 6 cyl. 175kw, 500Nm (chiped) diesel, and it is quiet and powerful, I make 7,5L/100km. Maybe you should try it :].
I'm from Canada....
Under powered the gas motors now and even before weren't even being heavily stressed before this video the diesel crowd has always been somewhat here in North America mainly big rigs
I just watched the entire Chummins Tahoe series this morning! Convinced me to sub here and follow on Twitter! I have an 02 2500HD 6.0L 4L80E that I'm dying to do a diesel swap in. All my previous trucks were Dodge Cummins 2500s or 3500s; this is my first HD gasser... The 6.0 is nice, but I just feel awkward not using the green pumps LOL
Hey man I'm from Sudbury, watch your videos quite often, really like the build and appreciate a well educated guy with good common sense. Looking at building a 6bt either for a 80s Scottsdale or mid 2000s Silverado
watching your videos is awesome seeing you drive the truck around my area
+Xe Wonderz come out to the Open House in September!
for sure next time I see your truck in town I'll come say hi
if u us a cluster from a 03-05 duramax u will have a red line rpm at 3200, and the factory trans temp gauge will work.
That turbo sounds awesome
10 litres to the 100 is good for a big vehicle, at those speeds. Nicely done.
Wait wait wait. You are getting 23-24 mpg with a 3.9L Cummins all mechanical injected diesel engine swap into a Chevy Tahoe hauling family and their stuff at ~70 mph? I have a '14 3.0L RAM ecodiesel and I pull about the same at 70 mph (24-25 mpg). Now I'm sad. Love the series but I"m sad.
It's an ecodiesel tho
Emissions is a bitch... I think its a bit of a conspiracy... With emmisions you end up burning more fuel just to create less smoke... The effeciency of diesel.has gone down significantly since 2008...
A Physics Professor I’m just over here surprised you could tow all that and still get 23+ mpg. Meanwhile I’m over here getting 19 with my old Jeep with the seats ripped out 😂.
@@hellbringer09 How do you figure today's engines are "burning more diesel to create less smoke" That makes zero sense. If you look at diesel engine families that survived through harsh emissions they are getting better mpg and tend to be detuned with less hp.
@@amorag59 when you put back pressure on diesel exhausts by making them catch particulate doesnt matter if its a burnoff or a def system and egrs are whole nother can of worms cause it fucks your inlet and induction temps . You end up having to keep your revs up to keep your temps up to maintain exhaust mani temp thus you have to run a emissions spec motor to the wall to keep it in its Efficiency curve. You end up burning more fuel to create less smoke is the long story short and the reason we dont want black smoke and NOX is because it causes cancer. So diesel pre 2008 end up being more fuel efficient then the tier 4 compliant ones. I work in the trade dont try and make an argument there i see the numbers but i also know why they did it.
Love the cummins , 1995 Dodge 1 ton 12 valve, I really like your videos, keep up the good work !
Cummins+Tahoe=Cumhoe
id bet you could get ahold of a good gm tuner who could send you a tune to fix your issues with the reduce power warning and etc.. i had a tuner unlock a bunch of stuff in my 04 ram 2500 cause i added a bunch of stuff and it was originally a barebones model, i had him fix the speedo and unlock all features possible and tune out the seatbelt light cause i hate any lights on in the dash at all
Have a little fun why don’t cha... I thought I was really driving when I had a propane conversion added many years ago to my 99 Chevy Silverado half ton. Now I may have a mission to really do something special to my old friend. I lucked out when Walmart tire shop lifted my truck for new tires and my utility boxes being a little too heavy force bent my frame where the cab met the bed. I was out of my truck and into a rental for almost 2 months. Rather than reinstall a half ton frame my dealer installed a 1 ton frame. Honestly I didn’t feel or visibly notice a difference but... I got a nice upgrade. Today I will do the LEDs I have many that need swapped. And the cheap wrap I bought for my steering wheel is headed for the trash.
I don’t have driver buttons on my wheel I wonder if it’s pre-wired for the upgrade.
Ok I’ve seen 2 vids so far. I guess I’ll make my way to the beginning and get to know you.
My truck always would drain the battery if I didn’t drive for a few days. Last week I removed a security ignition switch. Familiar with “Silencer”? I always hated that. I wasn’t free. Anyway I can hold charge and lose nothing with that add-on gone. Well I wondered how I was going to start liking my truck again. Thanks.
This thing still need the overdrive as they reach above 1500rpm at 50-60 MPH. I think it would save more fuel that way as well.
My head was hurting until he said 24mpg 🤣
awsome swap. I'd not sell it, but if you do, you will have buyers
I would love to put one in my 04 trailblazer maybe with compounds turbskis and make it awesome trail suv
good for you love the swap
About 23 1/3 MPG average
i love this dude
Rich-You are a wizard!I want to do a 4BT into a 28 Ford truck with a ford 4 speed from the guy in Ohio. I am going to use a Ford 9" rear. 1-What gear ratio for this combination?2- Why did you not choose a 7100 pump for your 4BT?Keep it up, I am a fan!
I have 3:73's and they work great but I have overdrive. If you are 1:1 in the trans, you might want a lower ratio. The inline pumps are for off road on the 4bt's and don't make good pumps for road vehicles. I think you can get them built but its cheaper to go with a VE for the 3.9's. Off road pumps are meant to run at idle and at WOT, nothing in between.
hey cool! North Bay represent!
Loved the whole series! Do have a few questions though. Other than you picked up the Tahoe with a bad motor what made you go with a Tahoe (or a 1500 GMT) over a 2500 series GMT 800 SUV? That being said (knowing the engine bay is the same size) do you think a 5.9 would fit into a 2500? What made you choose a BT4 over a Duramax swap, and lastly not counting the price of the donor truck what would you charge to build one for someone?
My wife is 5'2" and refused to drive an XL. The only diesel that the 1/2 ton will hold is the 4bt. Fuel savings was my number 1 goal. A 5.9 will fit , its the trans that doesn't. You will need a 4l80E to hold the torque of a 5.9 but it is larger all the way around so you will need a body lift. Check out the Duramax Yukon on my channel. I think I have less than half into it then what Tod has. A swap is $10k

Rich - Love all the custom diesel swaps you do. You do it all the right way.
My question is: have you ever done any Mercedes Diesel swaps?
The 2000-2006 2.7L inline 5cyl diesels that are in the Sprinter vans are 500k + motors. I've been reading up on these swaps into this era Suburbans/Yukons, and people are claiming 35mpgs.
I originally wanted to put a Cummins ISB170 in a 2005 Suburban, but after reading about the Mercedes diesels' fuel economy and durability, and low weight, I am thinking about doing the Mercedes swap.
kow boy I know a channel where a guy put a OE670 or something like that which was a diesel from an old Mercedes and he put it in a Toyota pickup. Look up everything off-road if you're interested
Lane Browning Yes sir I know of that swap. He is using a different motor than I am referring to. And I was more interested in putting one into a Suburban or Yukon XL. I think that would be sweet.
kow boy Yeah it probably would. I figured if you hadn't seen it then it may interest you. Good luck!
I have a Chevy suburban I love to do this on
hey man congratulations I love you truck I want to do the conversion on my Jeep TJ it's going to be awesome I would like to see the videos how to turn off the engine light I'll be watching videos how to do the conversion and I'll be watching yours good job man
I have a pair of 2400 mercedes diesels out of a boat, they were fresh water cooled so no rust anywhere. They arent big enough for my 1500 ram and the camperim putting on it
Maybe a partial trade to get 4bt installedin 99 ram 1500.
How much would it cost for you do duplicate this truck if they were to supply the Tahoe
But historic cars are only for weekend use in the states
I thinking about putting on in a 96 SAFRAI van. How long is a 4bt
Very nicely done Rich. I'm a carpet/flooring installer of over 30 years and have been driving gas guzzling 1 ton extended vans this whole time so I'm thinking 4BT in a 2000 or so Dodge reg wheelbase conversion van as my final work van (the Cummins 4BT will bolt up to the existing dodge trans due to the Dodge Cummins alliance). Question: In light of the fact that the 6.9 started life as 2 valves per cylinder then evolved into 4 valves per cylinder and the 4.9 never made that transition, would it be possible to take a 4 valve per cyl 6.9 head cut off 2 cyclinder heads and do the mods to convert the 4BT to 16 valves instead of the 8 valve stock configuration?
wouldn't mind letting you get ahold of my 99 tahoe for one of those swaps but i have to get another vehicle going first
I was curious as to where some good places to buy the 6bt engines from. Thanks for your help
they seem to come to me... the customer that I built the 85 Dodge for has one for sale. 92 with 330k km on it.
anybody have some good sources for used engines they want to share? all the ones I see advertised seem to put the project out of budget. great videos and a great channel. I hope the tape boss takes off for you.
So I have a old gasser (80' f 250) that I use for my ranch. And I'm towing horses and cows with that truck(not all time) And all the other trucks are are diesel. So it would be nice to have it a diesel. But how much weight do you think it would pull??
If you were to put 4bt in 4x4 crew cab care eye z71 would it have enough ugh power to turn 35s at interstate speeds?
Geez, my '66 Chevy K10 will pull that weight no problem, but no way will it stop 13000 pounds. That Tahoe is a 1/2 ton, probably with small-ish vacuum brakes... Now I have an '03 GMC K2500HD that will easily pull and stop that load, no sweat.
I hope do that on my GMC envoy do I is possible
thinkingabout doing a swap on a suburban. what did you use on the transmission to get the fit right? build it or buy a kit. just looking for pointers in the right direction. thanks. great videos keep it up.
I am planning a 4bt swap into a Colorado. I'm assuming most of the steps you took will be the same with it. I almost promise I will need to do a body lift to close the hood though. I have found a ton of the isb 170's but haven't been able to find much on the tuning. I like the motor because of the noise reduction. Any suggestions or comments would be very helpful as was the videos. I am looking to do as you did an make it as close to a factory feel as possible.
have you ever thought of a 4bt swap in dakota that's what I'd like to see!
i really want to do this to my Dodge Dakota. i feel like that is really what they should have put in the truck. i think it would've sold a good amount for work trucks. how much would you say it costs for a 2005 Dodge Dakota w/ 4.7 V8? (247 Cu in.)
The trans may be stuck in limp mode it never really gets to 3k
I'm swapping one in my 1/2 Ton
What's a k? And your running ""33's?!" Confused? Are we kilometers on distance and English measurements in height? Thanks for the video...
I have a 2001 Dodge Cummins chassis cab truck, I sold the engine and I would love to put a 4BT in it, would work best with a manual transmission, could be the easiest swap in the world, and you could work on it very easy, I have all gas trucks with no power but very easy to work on, I can buy gas 360 engines all day for under $400, used old greasy Cummins 4bt will run you on average about $3000 to buy
So Cool. Super happy I found your channel.
That's ausom. I heard that a guy did it in F-150 &got@ 45to the gal.oh.to Ky w/16' boat &back to oh .
Did you put bigger suspension on it to handle the weight?
I was wondering if you have the on road VE pump that can do 3200 rpm’s? I need a part number for the local diesel shop so they can find one for me and build it.
What did the 4bt come out of? Looking to do the swap in my 99 tahoe. Diesel conversion web site states that the adaptor plate wont fit a common rail engine. I know there a ton of them out there. Curious what U took it out of.
What kind of trans do you have in it? Along with gears, and is it pretty fast? I wanna put one in my 85 c10 with a th350 and 2.73 gears
you like your neo trailer? I'm the tig welder at neo
Its my brothers father in-laws so that was the only time I ever pulled it. Pulled great though, keep up the good work!
GUNS GUNS Neo trailers are very nice; one of the guys in our snowmobile group has a 7’ inline.
I’m really interested in a 4bt swap, Iv got a 1994 dodge b250 van. Any advice will be appreciated.
When.my 2001 3500 truck says (reduce engine power). It let's me only go 15 mph. Why is that?
Do you ever mess with any of the om606 Mercedes motors? I sold a om617 to a friend of mine who gave it a new home in a cj7 jeep I would love to do a om606 / 4l60e drivetrain in my 1/2 ton silverado
I have the 5 cylinder diesel (om605) that is going into a 48 Fleetmaster convertible. Next summer/fall. Have the engine and the car, just in line for projects. Hopefully we will be able to go through the entire engine
@@DEBOSSGARAGE I'll be watching for it !!! Started following Your channel a bit over a year ago very inspiring videos !
My insturment panel is defront no light or on back inssturment panel
I'm torn. I love the LS engines, only have old v8's like a 440, 396, 427 and a couple 5.9 Cummins, but want an LS
Brent Hass build a 427 and watch a ls cry
Is there a list somewhere that lists out what vehicles/equipment that the 4BT came in? I'm trying to do this swap in my 1989 Suburban
Everything. You just have to look around.
How does the ifs hold up
Hey love your videos. two questions when you have time, does your cruise control work? If so does setting the high idle with the cruise control work to warm up faster ?
Still don't have the cruise up and going. No time but as soon as I do, I will make a video.
10L/100km not bad
Hey Rich. I've been watching for a long time. Was wondering what you'd charge to swap a 4bt with some upgrades (190-200 hp) into a Unimog U1300 435? Looking to buy a MOG this year and the stock Benz diesel is 5.7 liter dog with only 124 hp. Looking to get 366A power with half the liters. Hoping I can still use the Unimog 8 speed trans without tearing up the trans and axles.
Did you just use the old torque converter?
How do u find ur 4bt engines, im trying to get one but cant seem to find them
How did you end up doing fuel tank/lines
Is he canadian and does he live in canada cause id love to go to his shop and get my 12 valve tuned by him
Whats your thoughts 4bt vs 12v for a 93 f150? The only direct conversion I can find is for the 4bt but I feel the 12v would be better all around
Habeas J
The 6bt will eat up all your front gawr in a f150. You would be better off with a 4bt.
6bt is entirely to heavy for a 1/2ton ,frame and front suspension would fall apart
so I've been wanting to do a cat eye conversion for awhile do I need a bumper with the fenders hood and side panels ?
yep, and don't forget the grill. Cant remember if the plastic pieces that the lights clip into are different or not, better get those if you can
Using 20w50 oil right ?
Last question for now. Is the 4L60E really holding up to this? I keep hearing I need to use the 4L80e but not really wanting the complications of a trany conversion also. Thouhts?
Mine is holding up fine. Extra big cooler with guages on it. Only tow like this every couple months. Great for a daily. 4L80E is much bigger and you will have to do a body lift
Hi , where and how much can i get a 4bt, I'm in Orem Utah
I wish cummins made an engine small enough to fit my 2015 corolla
they do look at 3 cylinder in their onan generator
Reaos kubota makes a ton of small engines, even put them in sail boats and bigger ones in cruisers
have you done any tuning to the 4bt to get the specs that you have
signblue there’s a whole series of this build including the tuning.
Why did he choose to use the Silverado grille when it is a Tahoe
Believe it or not, that's how the Tahoes and Suburbans looked like in Mexico.
How do you think a 4BT would do in a 1-ton panel truck from the 50s?
A 1 ton would handle a 6bt no problem so that is the route I would go without a second thought. Quieter, stronger and would handle the weight much better
DEBOSS GARAGE
So you're saying that the stock frame of, lets say, a 1952 Chevrolet 3800 panel truck could handle a 5.9 Cummins turbo diesel?
I don't see why it wouldn't..
Alan Schulte you would have to beef it up a little, I would find a donor truck with the body all rotten and put the body of the old Chevy on that frame that way you would have all the later model power steering and brakes and ac
Did you replace the fuel tank? If so, did you replace it with a stick fuel tank?
same tank but put a a fill neck from a diesel
+DEBOSS GARAGE did you just empty it then fill it with diesel?
yep. Remove all the leftover emissions stuff and put return right back in the tank. You have to make the inlet bigger on the tank so it needs to be cleaned anyway. I just threaded a 2" barb into the tank. Otherwise the diesel will bubble up and turn the nozzle off constantly.
How do you like the glowshift gauges?
No issues so far. 2 years old with 40 000 km
Sick
What is the cost of 3.9 swap?
Why did you choose to go with the 4BT instead of the 6.6 duramax? Was it mainly just because of money or? Just wondering what made you make that decision
weight, and cost. Duramax would tear the 4l60E to shreds so I would need a 4l80E at the least. It won't fit without a body lift and the cost just keeps going up. This was all about saving fuel.
how much would you charge to do a 2001 f150 conversion with a 4bt if you decided to do one?
Pick a number in your head that is the absolute maximum amount you would pay. I'm just slightly above that.
I'm just looking to have a good reliable setup but not trying to spend a fortune. This truck was the first vehicle I purchased on my own so I kinda wanna keep it going for a long time
I'm just giving you a hard time. I understand the sentimental value in your truck, I wish I never sold my first one. It isn't practical though. Doing the swap yourself is about $5k, getting me to do it would be about $10k.
from where you get the engines ?
