Okay so the reason why you died in Boulevard is because there's a random chance that he just punches you and kills you in the middle of the song. And there's unfortunately no way to dodge this attack, so you just have to pray he doesn't kill you before the song ends. He kills you in the ending regardless, but that's meant to happen.
