While the music may be the main attraction for these mods, The way that programmers continued to evolve the way that you played the game via mechanics was incredible. The typing mechanic in Monochrome stunned me, and it oy git better from there. Will you be talking about the use of mechanics is old & new mods?
It's crazy to think how some of these were from like 3 years ago or somethin, also these are pretty good compared to like newer mods that have ALOT of content in them, Hyped for part 2!
I remember back when Tabi's mod came out, it got a lot of hype because I'm pretty sure Genocide was one of, if not the first, songs to actually push back against your progress when the opponent was singing. That being said, Genocide from that mod and YCR from Sonic .EXE were always my favorites of this era, mainly because they were among the few that leaned more into a rock/metal sound
man what a throwback, all these mods are dear to my heart and- 28:52 wait what the fuck? Hypno's Lullaby isn't that old, it's only... _two years??_ wtf where did those two years go?
I miss old fnf so much cause nowadays everything kind of feels the same. Practically every cool mechanic you could think of has been used already and the songs are starting to sound the same as each other meanwhile in old fnf everything was still being discovered and it was awesome seeing the new ideas people cooked up.
Then there’s the creepypasta mods. Not saying they are the reason fnf is the way it is now… but I do still think they played a big part in it. Now I do admit mods like Mario’s Madness are cool and I do like… I will say I do wish we saw some more mods about original characters
I thought that this video was going to be a video essay or like a tear ranking system but this video was neet. I like how you showed gameplay with you and your friends commentating along. It was funy and great to watch. Keep up the great work
Because everyone was jamming on Madness on the original mods' release, and everyone was astonished at how good Expurgation was when the v2 came out, which made people forget about Improbable Outset and Hellclown.
@@hyhyd6135 I was talking about popularity, not about how good the songs are (because I actually find Improbable Outset to be the best song of the mod) I think the Hellclown hype was also kind of drowned down by the fake leaked version (which had these terrible BF voices and was extremely repetitive)
for as short as fnf has been a thing (around 3-4 years) it still has some sort of nostalgia for old mods. the songs are pretty decent compared to modern mods but they still have that charm of being the OGs of fnf modding.
I don't think the older fnf mods can be rated on charting because in that time the kade engine sucked and some mods refused to let you hit all of the funny notes mainly Whitty, Tricky, and MFM had this problem edit, I vaguely remember that Sunday also had this issue, but it's less apparent, only noticeable if you play the madness cover
May I ask how do you mistake the character vocals when literally making the song? Just curious, I never understood how it even happened and I've been confused ever since
The best thing about the old mods was that each one had it's essence by the BF voice, as there was no official chromatic scale or not knowing how to use it, because most of them used either utau, or soundfont (which samples were mostly done in utau) or pitched samples randomly, making each sample sound strange when pitched up or down a lot, example Mike Geno BF. Now everyone uses either the official chromatic, or creates their own, but it has no iconic, now they are all mostly sampled from Week 3 with OTT and Fruity Chorus, they are all really generic and unfunny. With so many options now on how to improve and make more original chorms... Very few people take advantage of that
Knowing that some of these mods had updates with revamped songs/visuals, this video puts into perspective just how much they have improved. Monochrome (Perish Mix) is absolutely fire btw
I remember so well these mods when they came out, they truly were a revolution everytime a new big Mod came out; now that we're in 2024 it really shows how big FNF got in the Modding Community. 90% of these Old Mods now are a bit outdated, also are quite slow and really easy when looking at them and also had BF sounding straight up like ASS. Rare were the big ol' mods that successfully stood the test of time.
Honestly, the mods of the early FNF community and it's uprising were peak. I can't say I really enjoyed any mods released in 2023 and beyond. Most of the newer stuff I enjoy are updates and cleanups of older mods. Really says a lot about the longivity and creativity aspects of them, and how mods have changed.
I do the feel the scoring was a bit generous for everything up before mid fight masses given that better mods came out as time went on, but if they were being rated as separate categories or something, then sure, good taste in fnf mods. Also, the main thing about the songs in hypnos lullaby is the mechanics (at least for the songs in the mod that have them), and it would be really cool to see v2 of this mod featured in future, and perhaps even videos for newer mods? random tangent, a few online friends and I are working on a remaster bundle of some older mods that the director wasn't proud of, not sure how long it will take but I just thought I'd mention it. some the songs in it are gonna be fire
I'm so sad that everytime people hear classical music like Beethoven they think of fnaf. It's also hilarious 😂 also I have played the first Kapi song in ddr I feel like the notes might have matched the game.
Have no clue why this was recommended to me, cause i haven't played this game in a couple years lol, but like nice video! Kinda cool to look back on silly stuff like this. The only fnf mod I have any clue about anymore is the Wii Sports one, and that's just cause I have a friend that still mods the game. He told me that a lot of the people that make the Wii Sports fnf fan mods have like super massive egos or something haha, which kinda sucks since I remember that one being my favorite.

So, something I feel like a lot of people need to remember in this community is that a lot of mods were directly inspired from one another and/or require background information of what the mod was originally based off to fully get the most enjoyment out of them. Mods like Hypno’s Lullaby, or even Sonic.exe’s target audience isn’t 100% meant for those blindly coming onto the scene. What makes these mods so amazing is the passion that went behind them, and it’s even more awesome when these things people are creating were things you yourself stumbled across and are now reliving those moments from before. That’s really the art of these fan-mods!
@@anyseasonlogic Vs Shaggy was underrated imo there was the original Vs Tord which im pretty sure was an early fnf era mod (think the song was called Norway?) there’s also the remixs for the original FNF weeks like the old B side and Neo mods. ill see if i can find any older mods to suggest later
Strangely nostalgic video for me. Fnf is what got me into the world of rhythm games. It's crazy to look at some of these mods and remember how I used to not be able to beat some of these songs.
man it hasn't even been that long and this vid made me super nostalgic... i miss the glory days of fnf. i'm not really interested in the game or its mods anymore but seeing all this old stuff was really nice
**insert angry comment about “WHY DIDNT YOU TALK ABOUT (mod name)!!!111!!” here** Jokes aside, this is a pretty good video, and it’s nice seeing these mods again in a condensed format like this. Wishing you luck with the RUclips algorithm! 👍
I find it so funny that (for what I’ve seen) people consider the Tabi mod the first mod to input the poison mechanic (I think that’s what it’s called) where when the enemy sing it drains bar, but that’s far from correct as the Jester mod (one of the earliest mods in Fnf history) had the poison mechanic and yet the mod is basically barely noticed
I love how for every mod, one of you three has a wildly different score than the other two, like Layne thinks Ballistic fucking _rocks_ or Gavin just hates Garcello and thinks the charting in MFM is not so bad actually.
its crazy how even though the last time i heard these songs was over three years ago, i can still hum them almost perfectly - they were just that memorable
To me, Vs Tricky definitely pushed a mod in how it plays and what types of mechanics it can have. But Vs Sonc.exe definitely has had the greatest impact on fnf period.
I miss when the greater good eye cult was still a thing in mods. It had so much potential. I feel whitmore being cancelled kinda killed more oc mods later down the line. I always loved the idea of mods being connected to each other.
It's really crazy how FNF has changed over the last 3 years, but still drama involving mods aside, being a source of children's entertainment for elsagate, I still think there are some pretty good mods I like personally, such as The Blueballs Incident, Mario's Madness, and Hotline 024 are examples of very good and properly made mods.
the thing that set smoke em apart from other mods was that it wasnt focused on a super hard track, but rather telling a good story with a good one off character
i honestly miss the simplicity of these old mods. mods now are 99% creepypasta shit, but these mods, while simple/outdated in some aspects, still have a charm to them that’s missing in recent mods imo.
As someone who quit the FNF community in mid-2022, these bring back a lot of memories (tbh I’ve never even heard any new songs nor enjoyed their vibe as much as I did for older mods) I was a huge MFM fan and was thriving in the community until the original creator quit (I was actually crying just now because I find it to be so depressing that she’s just left the characters to be frozen forever and forgotten about) but yeah, thank you for making this video!
I feel like fnf fans nowadays forget how impressive these were back when nowadays you could pretty much just mod in anything now easier and more efficiently. As for the music? While some songs obviously didn’t age as well since we have refined music tastes and all that, there’s some songs that are still in my top 10 personally (like expurgation for example.).
It feels weird calling these mods "old" now. Obviously 3-4 years ago isnt too long ago. Remembering when these mods came out and became popular was a such a funny transition in my life. I personally think many of these mods still holds up years later. It feels weird getting nostalgic remembering these little mods when they came out.
I don't know how the mods of this are going nowadays, but man, I still find myself listen to music from older and famous mods. They were so great. Every mod brought so much creativity, and felt so unique. I don't know the difficulty scale, but besides some musics, they didn't sound impossible to non experienced rhythm players.
Little small fun fact: The comopser for Kapi, PaperKitty, was and i think is still also working for Sugary Spire OST (that one Pizza Tower cool ass fangame in the works i think)
Honestly I disagree with most of the comments, I really like how fnf is today, the songs are sometimes extremely good compared to what we had before, also I'm waiting for big mods to update like VMU, hotline 024 or indie cross (and also other mods)
now although there are some REALLY good fnf mods that are more recent (vs hood: roundtable and vs allegro for example), mods definitely peaked in earlier years. luckily that just means whenever a really good mod comes out now, it become a whole lot more recognizable
For a game that showed up in the mids of the pandemic, it had a nice hit of nostalgia every time you come back to it. Some difficult mods like Kapi, Whitty, Tricky, Hotline 024, etc. No matter how hard they are, even if they kick your ass, they'd still give you a great time. Even mods that weren't made to be difficult had some great sounding jams like Garcello, Sunday, and Cassette girl. Couldn't say that to the hundreds of exe mods though. At first they were interesting, but then more showed up like ants craving for some sugar.
i feel like old fnf holds up somehow better than a good amount of modern mods, mainly as there were less sonic and exe mods and more characters people hadnt modded into fnf at the time that were being modded into fnf, now its hard to find fun characters to mod into fnf that havent been done
My man, you do need to play the Hex mod, that songs really hit soooo Hard. And the art is so awesome in the Last battle with that kicking Hard ost!! Good video, subbed. 🤝
I feel like y'all also should've rated the mods gimmicks, like tricky has so many cool gimmicks that make the mod so much better and hypno has the swinging pendulum and the typing thing which some of the viewers might not know of. I also want to say thank you for this video, it reminds me of the time when i used to play this game a lot and i can't say i was bad at it. I think i remember one bright summer day getting expurgation with like 40 misses and i was so excited to tell my friends about it. I haven't played fnf in a few years so this was a good reminder of the good times i had with it back in the day.
It was talked about but not enough of the mods had gimmicks to add the rating system like that plus i think having a simple rating system helps to keep everyone in the same page
I forgot hypno’s lullaby was made during 2020-2021 That mod was my favorite even during v1 and v2 just blew my mind. I really stopped being interested in FNF mid-2022 and when I decided to check in and see the new mods my biggest gripe is how they handle gimmicks. They either just shove them in because why the hell not or they spam the living daylights out of them. This mod imo did gimmicks amazingly, because while they can be difficult, they made perfect sense for the characters and they embraced how the gimmick changed the playstyle. My favorite song still is probably the first. It’s a perfect adaptation of *the* hypno creepypasta and even before they deform hypno they still make him creepy with the stances, constant swinging, occasionally using some psychic move (maybe confusion? Idk) Sorry for the long comment, I just love that mod so much. They put so much effort into it and fully respected the original creepypastas. This vid in general was a fun nostalgia ride too. Besides Hypno, the Witty (with the charting change, thank god), tricky (even better with the new version) and Sonic.exe mods still hold up really well

While the music may be the main attraction for these mods, The way that programmers continued to evolve the way that you played the game via mechanics was incredible.
Back when pushing back the player's progress had actual logic behind it. ( Tabi being a _boyfriend_ )

I miss old fnf so much cause nowadays everything kind of feels the same. Practically every cool mechanic you could think of has been used already and the songs are starting to sound the same as each other meanwhile in old fnf everything was still being discovered and it was awesome seeing the new ideas people cooked up.
This is very true sadly
Well, there is only so much you can do before it becomes doom
Then there’s the creepypasta mods. Not saying they are the reason fnf is the way it is now… but I do still think they played a big part in it. Now I do admit mods like Mario’s Madness are cool and I do like… I will say I do wish we saw some more mods about original characters

@@anyseasonlogic Hey, more songs to rank = more content = more subs
Because everyone was jamming on Madness on the original mods' release, and everyone was astonished at how good Expurgation was when the v2 came out, which made people forget about Improbable Outset and Hellclown.

for as short as fnf has been a thing (around 3-4 years) it still has some sort of nostalgia for old mods. the songs are pretty decent compared to modern mods but they still have that charm of being the OGs of fnf modding.
I agree.❤❤❤
Underrated video, this has a lot of effort and was enjoyable to watch.
Aw thank you I really appreciate it
I don't think the older fnf mods can be rated on charting because in that time the kade engine sucked and some mods refused to let you hit all of the funny notes
mainly Whitty, Tricky, and MFM had this problem
edit, I vaguely remember that Sunday also had this issue, but it's less apparent, only noticeable if you play the madness cover
true but knowing how old they are we rated them knowing how old it was
23:00 Fun fact: the guy behind Vs Sky also made Vs Sunday. The second and third songs of Sky's week he used Sunday's chromatic by mistake!
May I ask how do you mistake the character vocals when literally making the song? Just curious, I never understood how it even happened and I've been confused ever since
@@JustASilly3 theyre really similar
I love the detail on kapi, all his notes are pink and blue matching his ddr pad.
Me too
The best thing about the old mods was that each one had it's essence by the BF voice, as there was no official chromatic scale or not knowing how to use it, because most of them used either utau, or soundfont (which samples were mostly done in utau) or pitched samples randomly, making each sample sound strange when pitched up or down a lot, example Mike Geno BF.
Now everyone uses either the official chromatic, or creates their own, but it has no iconic, now they are all mostly sampled from Week 3 with OTT and Fruity Chorus, they are all really generic and unfunny.
With so many options now on how to improve and make more original chorms... Very few people take advantage of that
True but knows Maybe someday people will take advantage of the options opportunity.
saruky BF and old rozebud bf on top, foolhardy being as good as it is is mostly due to the epic voice
Just gonna throw it out there, that's the Remastered Ballistic you played. The original chart was made while the creator was drunk, and it shows.

So, something I feel like a lot of people need to remember in this community is that a lot of mods were directly inspired from one another and/or require background information of what the mod was originally based off to fully get the most enjoyment out of them. Mods like Hypno’s Lullaby, or even Sonic.exe’s target audience isn’t 100% meant for those blindly coming onto the scene. What makes these mods so amazing is the passion that went behind them, and it’s even more awesome when these things people are creating were things you yourself stumbled across and are now reliving those moments from before. That’s really the art of these fan-mods!

Honestly I disagree with most of the comments, I really like how fnf is today, the songs are sometimes extremely good compared to what we had before, also I'm waiting for big mods to update like VMU, hotline 024 or indie cross (and also other mods)
i also love modern fnf like 024 or ourple guy
@@anyseasonlogic Also there's a lot of OC mods, it's just that people ignore it or they just aren't good
now although there are some REALLY good fnf mods that are more recent (vs hood: roundtable and vs allegro for example), mods definitely peaked in earlier years. luckily that just means whenever a really good mod comes out now, it become a whole lot more recognizable
You guys are underrated. It will be fun if you guys played though fnf mods to some time to time

Smoke Em Out Struggle is probably my favorite "old" mod. I love the songs, I love the simple story. And it made me cry.

@@anyseasonlogic that makes sense
These mods are so nostalgic. I like how most of the old mods had original characters and catchy songs that are really iconic now
I forgot hypno’s lullaby was made during 2020-2021
That mod was my favorite even during v1 and v2 just blew my mind.
Idk)
Sorry for the long comment, I just love that mod so much. They put so much effort into it and fully respected the original creepypastas. This vid in general was a fun nostalgia ride too. Besides Hypno, the Witty (with the charting change, thank god), tricky (even better with the new version) and Sonic.exe mods still hold up really well
