As you crossed the Missouri River, I thought of the times I have straddled the headwaters of the Missouri River, just like members of Lewis and Clark Expedition. Sure couldn't do it there. Kurt, you & Opie stay safe & healthy.
My favorite thing about your videos is the whistle of the turbo. It takes me back 45 years to when I was first learning to drive a big truck. I learned on a Pete with a CAT.
Gotta say I enjoy your videos. I'm retired now after 38+ years. Started when I was 15+ in "65". Learned on a 4X4 married two stick in a cabover Pete with a Cummins. We were running team my older brother and I (unofficial) pulling a chemical tanker all 48 states. Till that summer I hadn't been out of the county. First trip...Hawthorne, California then Trenton NJ My older brother taught me to drive.
Good on you for not taking the cheap freight. I have been home for 4 months because, it so pathetic with these rates. I’m just waiting for some of these lowballers to drop out. Hang in there driver and be safe!
Get to feeling better there buddy! Good video. Not really whining as far as I'm concerned. You're speaking it the way it is nowadays in trucking. Our tractor has been parked almost 2 years. They're not paying enough to the O/O's to take it out of the yard. People on the channel will comment that there are opportunities out there. There are not in the west. They will comment that you can haul hazmat, etc. Not worth the trouble based on the insurance rates to haul that kind of freight. Time will tell but I think most of us O/O's will be hanging it up for good before years end. Just my 2 cents worth. You and Opie stay safe out there!
Kurt hope you get to feeling better cold be the bug goin around sure as hell aint no joke being sick on the road im sure you know that well be safe bud!!😮
I drive a non-aero modernish day cab. I get low to mid 6s running local pulling containers. Every day I consider trading it in on an aero sleeper specifically for the fuel mileage. The problem is, I'd have to run more loads just to make the payment, and I really don't want to do that since there aren't always more loads. I finally paid my truck off the other week and want to enjoy some commercially debt free operation for as long as I can.
Not boring more like reality in the world of truckers life, not always Peach color, Mr.Kurt always brings Interesting topics, you be safe and Mr.Opies !!!!!!!👍🚛🚜⛽🐕
Trucking sick is no fun at all. I can remember bailing out of the cab and sprinting to some brush a few times when my tummy started the old cramping routine and was on the road. Always carried some meds that the wife would recommend, as her being a nurse, and extra clothes for those times when I met with disaster. As for Opie, I think that it would take at least a large Arby's roast beef to get him in the van. Well hope you get feeling better and stay safe. Hope all is well with the family and you have better luck with the freight. With fiscal coming up there may be a week or two of slow freight but maybe this will be one of those years that it doesn't happen.
On the Prime trucks paint scheme. The lease operators get to pick out the scheme they want. One of my trainers works at Prime as a lease operator and owns a fleet of trucks with them.
I’ve got three favorite truck drivers that I watched a lot on RUclips 1. You 2. Just truckin 3. FSC trucking All three are great drivers and have bald heads
Don’t blame you for refusing to work for less than nothing. You can watch the low-baller’s drop out of sight eventually. y’all stay safe, God bless and havagudun.
They should have skipped the artwork and fancy interior to pay for full privacy on the restrooms. Some people making these decisions are just clueless. Would you want your little kid in there ,before you went in not realizing the set up?
Prime drivers do get to pick what they want their truck painted like which is weird they do that to their own trucks since they'll never own the truck or stay there long enough for prime to see it as worth it lol.
Those Large carriers are hauling the frieght cheap bcos of charging 5-8k for driving schools & all the discounts they get among other things!!!! But, All it does is mess it up for the SMALL COMPANIES!!!! Plus, they dnt get the EXCELLENT SERVICE that MOST SMALLER CARRIERS will provide the get INFERIOR SERVICE INSTEAD!!!!!!
Man watching and listening to you shift thru those gears is like meditation to me. Your are by far the smoothest shifter I see o. The tube. I aspire to be that smooth and relaxed.
Question for ya? The place I work at, I unload trailers, but they require the driver to unhook from the trailer. Do you run across many facilities that have you unhook from the trailer? I ask cause most times see you still hooked up..
I see you using the thing on the steering wheel, put it to good use. It's 90here in West Michigan 🥓🔥🥵 but a nice cool breeze blows thru. That's it, Kurt, I thought this was a good channel but your showing nekked Lady.🤣😂😂🤣
I would say PRIME gets good deals on the trucks with ugly paint schemes, because nobody else wants them. I know a guy that paints, he bought an airplane and offered to paint it as the down payment. It ended up looking like the Partridge Family bus, nobody wanted it after that, to this day it is known as “THE PAINT JOB”. Stay safe.
Primes trucks come from the factory as regular colors, the lease drivers or owner operators decide how to brighten it up. An office person at Prime makes a video showing the painted up trucks at the terminal weekly
I seen a phone number, but then it disappeared. When you lower your expenses, it puts more to the bottom line. Have you ever inquired on other company's rates, etc. Prime has a power only deal that gets you access to their fuel discounts. Your tractor is too heavy and fuel mileage needs to be improved. You love your KW but it costs you every day you drive it. Cliff Viesmann has owner ops pulling tankers of sugar and starch and bean oil. Kottke has freight leaving Sioux City. Kottke is based in Buffalo Lake MN and has terminal in Florida. I have a friend that does well pulling for TBros from Mpls and Sioux Falls SD. He hauls light loads of furniture to east and west coasts with a 2024 Volvo.
I was a kid of the 50s and remembered that the bee's loved our outdoor plumbing you would have to brush them away before sitting. Anyone want some honey? Like your channel ,watch when I have a moment but don't know why because I've been owner op for 51 years and have worked for most all of the crooks that you could name and a few you've never heard of. Hang in there my journey is almost over getting too old ready to give it up and enjoy the great grand kids
Just dead headed 250 miles out of Central Ohio to Bedford PA to pu a 3 dollar per mile load for North Dakota. They were offering less than 2 dollars for a ice cream load. Last 3 weeks ice cream loads are really low for some reason the only loads that pay is what I get out of North Dakota Minnesota frozen taters and those are getting too slow to count on.
Are you sure that there is nothing you can do about that mileage? I know a guy with a 6NZ who gets ~7 mpg loaded and 10 empty. Bobtailing, he can get as high as 11. I know, I know, it’s very hard to believe but… that’s the claim and he claims those are miles/gallons (pen and paper) numbers. Also, those numbers are crossing the Rockies west of Denver frequently. He does have a ScanGauge (engine diagnostics / Kevin Rutherford) hooked up also. His pen and paper numbers match the ScanGauge. I’ve been running CATs since the 1980s; 5.5 mpg has always been the number. If I hadn’t seen his numbers, I’d say he’s lying but he’s not. What do you think? Fuel is always a concern. Crude has been trending lower but that could change quickly. We could be seeing $100.00 crude very easily again. The Saudis and OPEC just cut production again; they want $100.00 and higher crude.
With retail prices for everything being what they are, truckers must be approaching millionaire status. Afterall, truckers rates are why things are what they are, aren't they?
I'm considering trading my 2014 freightliner Coronado glider kit on something more fuel efficient (Peterbilt) but afraid I might have more cost when I break down. Can't decide
Hi Kurt it's not much fun driving with an upset tummy. You drop a load of in more ways then from the sounds if it. Opie look like he knew you where not feeling that greet. When big company can run loads cheap it's only makes it harder for owner opperater. Stay safe take care cos we all care . I hope your dad is going ok with the Chemotherapy. Wishing him all the best in combating his I'llness 🐕🛠⛟⛽🇦🇺👍
Today’s trucking has got to be so really tuff on you O/O. Fuel still way to high, so is Insurance, rates are dirt cheap. So I respect your decision to not haul freight that doesn’t pay. When COVID was in its prime rates went through the roof. Now everyone is paying for it, garbage rates. The economy is not at its best either so not as many loads around. Kurt I have always liked how you operate your tractor, letting the engine do the work, not the fuel pedal. I am retired and still have dreams and wants about going back out. Sadly that won’t happen. Anywho great video. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails and happy motoring,
Speking of rainstorms i loved it when nasty thunder storms would roll in while being in the bunk..NICE!!
