    Nice one. I went from a fuji x100f to upgrading to the m240. I went on 2 trips to NYC, one time with the x100 and one time with the m240. Yes there is a bit of slowdown, which I actually like in most cases, but what for me was the biggest pro for the m240: the images were so much crispier and sharper than the x100f. The larger sensor and leica glass really made a big difference to me. So yes also for me in 2021 this camera does the job and it s a great companion to my M6 just like your combo.

    I am still shooting with my 5 1/2 year old M-P 240 Safari. It still produces outstanding images when I do my part and can make 24'x36" exhibit quality prints. The M-P 240's Achilles heel is this: ISO.
    With a maximum ISO of just 6400, you can find yourself painted into a corner in low light shooting situations. Use a tripod or monopod to compensate for the modest ISO performance and you are in good shape. I feel safe using ISO 800 if my intent is to make prints and ISO 1600 is doable for online use.
    It is not cut and dried, though. I have had some images shot at ISO 3200 that still made good prints at 16"x24" size and some images that were so noisy at 3200 that they showed significant noise. I suppose that can be attributed to the M-P 240's older sensor architecture.
    The M-P 240 is still capable of producing outstanding results in spite of its age, though. You just have to make allowances when shooting in low light.

    People need to realise that good cameras don't suddenly stop being good cameras when the next new model comes out - in 2020 I sold all my M43 gear and now I use an X-T1 which is around 8 years old too. I absolutely love it, and even if it doesn't have the fancy bells and whistles of my M43 gear, I am really appreciating the image quality improvements and build quality. Excellent summary. AF FF mirrorless kind of leave me cold, both on the creative process and also the results. And I can't really put my finger on why. I acknowledge the technical brilliance of the Sony system which I have used extensively, and if I was a pro, it would be the weapon of choice. I find the Leica also to be the fastest camera to use. aperture and speed can be set with the camera on or off in an instant, and focus is very fast,. Although I use pre-focus alot and sometimes zone focus, I have no issue with a f1.2 photo rapidly. For me, Leica M is the only camera. Well except for a GR iii ... ;)
    In terms of the M240, it remains the best bang for buck in the M digital world. It is a very reliable model, and combined with all the used and new glass available from Voigtlander, Leica, Zeiss, TTartisan, 7artisan, etc. can make a reasonably priced system, which, as mentioned can be sold for the same or more in many years time. Leica, Voigtlander and Zeiss lenses appreciate with time from used, given the condition you keep them in.

    I like the honest and down to the point statements in your video! I bought a nearly mint M-E 240 last year and love it. I don't lurk after the latest and newest with Leica - for the price you can buy a M 240 now there is not much depreciation in the future for years to come. Actually it might increase after a while similar to M9 because it provides the film look whereas the M10 has more a std digital look. Agree with the JPGs in camera - beats even the ones form Sony MLCs. You can actually do longer than 30 sec exposures with the M 240 by getting into a hidden menu which you only see by pressing the focus button in Bulb mode (ISO dependent).

I use mine with the awesome TTArtisan 50mm f/1.4 Asph. lens - that's a great entry to the Leica system for around £2350 all in, but perhaps £400-500 less if you're prepared to have an M 240 that's seen a bit of action.

    The way I see it is you're already choosing a film camera with a sensor in it. The only real upgrade is ISO and battery. As long as it is working no M is obsolete.

      @@Goughie it’s still a REALLY good camera, people sleep on this model since it’s in between the cult M9 and the near perfect M10. M10 Perfect, meaning they corrected the issues of the M8 (Full-frame), M9 (24MP), M240 (slim body). But the pictures I got from the 240 are awesome and still my fav digital M in that regard.

    I think the only thing that is really holding me back on the M240 is the choice between it and an M6. Well and maybe the M240s „thickness“ it just looks kind of uncomfortable and clunky and I haven‘t had the chance to hold one yet. How do you feel about its ergonomics?

    • @Goughie
      @Goughie  3 года назад

      You do notice that the M240 is pretty chunky. The M6 is much better from a handling point of view! But the M240 is by no means terrible!
      There’s something special about the M6. From a silky mechanical feel perspective.
      It’s a tough choice! I guess it’s Film vs Digital! Two very nice cameras! You can’t really go wrong!

    • @louismathgen
      @louismathgen 3 года назад +1

      @@Goughie Thanks for the detailed answer, really love your channel, keep up the good work. The M6 still is the better looking one for sure, but the M10 returned to the more compact form factor of the M6, a pity that you can't find one under 4k. Maybe they drop in price, as they're discontinued now...

    • @JohnRicard
      @JohnRicard 3 года назад

      If you were to measure the thickness difference between an M6 and a M240 it would seem miniscule. In practice, it is very noticeable. I actually found using the grip made the camera feel more "right" even though the grip made it substantially larger. If you want the camera to really feel right, your only option is the M10. Used they can be found for under 5k -which isn't too bad for a state of the art Leica M camera.
