    Back in 1994 I came back from a cruise in Indonesia where I shot photos with my 2 Nikon F3. All photos came back blurred as I’m slightly shortsighted. I moved to a Leica M6 classic for B/W photos shot on T-Max 400 and later a M6 TTL for colour and flash photography on Gold 200 (36 exposures is a long way to go to switch from B/W to colour and back). My 3 lenses are all Summicron f2.0 35, 50 & 90mm. Not one shot has ever been out of focus since! Thanks for your review 👍🏼

    Great review and pics! I believe this is the only video I've found that clearly explained one aspect of the Leica 'look'.

    You got a great price on the M240 with lens. I paid more in September without a lens. Congrats and a really nice video.

    Thanks for this video. I appreciate a 2022 video with the 240 and Voigtlander instead of an Leica APO lense that is too expensive for most people.

    A Leica M is for beginners too, no doubt. Last year we had a trainee at the newspaper, and he wanted to photograph, but never had a camera, only a smartphone. I showed him the basics of using a Leica M and borrowed him my M240 and a 50 mm/f.1.5 for two months. The day after he got the camera, he came back with really nice shots. Maybe he was natural gifted, but he enjoyed the Leica. 98 % of my prof. press photography is shot with Leica M240 or M-P240. My preferred lens is my Summilux 50/1.4 followed by my Summarit 90/2.5. For wide angle, I've a Voigtländer Ultron 21/1.8, but it's seldom used. For the remaining 2 % I've a Lumix with Leica zoom lenses. The M240 is in my POV a great performer and the quality will remain long after the price is forgotten. You're a 35-mm-shooter, so I'll highly recommend getting either the Summilux 35/1.4 or Summicron 35/2.0. Both are superb and also as second hand still worth to invest in. Leica Store Berlin Meister Cameras is a reliable address for second hand Leica equipment. Nice video. Keep on rolling!

      My colleague borrowed my M10 at a lunchbreak and thought that was even easier than her X100S, it’s the simplicity of less buttons and less menu hazzel i think. When you grt video and AF the menues needs 300 pages and that’s hard to grab for a beginner. With the leica, there’s 3 wheels and the focus, no more than that. And the RF-focus is is not easier because you’re a professional photographer, the beginner just need some more time maybe to focus on the light, composition, focus. As the professional may just focus on the manual focus. I’ve had my M10 for 3/4 year now and I don’t regret that any day.

    I did notice the big filesizes when I first imported my Leica DNGs to my captureone library… But I don’t pixelpeep and this really makes sense! Thanks for sharing and gives a really solid argument for the digital M-seires (among others). One thing thou, the most proffesional/semi-professional cameras are made by metal in some way, but Leica Ms (except the black m11) are made with brass, and that gives another weight and over all more stable build quality

    I really enjoyed your review. Very interesting and frankly surprising RAW file comparison, I agree the Leica’s are special. I got my first Leica a couple of years ago, a Leica SL Type 601, which produces great shots. I watched your video for the review of the M240 review as I’ve been shooting adapted Voigtlander lenses on the SL and I’m really enjoying the manual focus experience and the very special images. Currently I’ve the Ultron 21mm f1.8, the Nokton 40mm f1.2 and the Nokton 75mm f1.5, all fantastic. Please keep the content coming, especially on Leica.all the best from England. PS. Just one question, how well do you think the M240 manages highlights in bright conditions?

    • @lukaskogler120
      @lukaskogler120  2 года назад

      It manages the highlights pretty well. Overall the dynamic range of the M240 is really good.

      The M240 is a good choice, but if you want the form factor of the M6 I would try the Leica M10 cause it's a little bit thinner than the M240.

    The difference between the filesizes doesn’t mean Leica captures more data than Canon. It means the Leica’s proccessor is more lazy than Canon’s and the it can not make compress the images without losing data. Canon has a great raw codec which makes the filesizes smaller while preserving all the datas, and it of course takes some proccessing power in the camera.

  • @erichstocker8358
    @erichstocker8358 Год назад +1

    Part of the filesize difference between the DNG and Canon raw is that DNG as a generic format can't optimize layout as much as the Canon can in its own restricted format. I don't know how much is added by the file format difference vs what is being recorded. However, DNG would be bigger anyway even if the information captured and recorded is exactly the same. This is one reason why camera manufacturers are loath to adopt the DNG format. I wish they all would.

    Nice intro…
    Man muss aber auch sagen das die Farbwiedergabe von der Generation von Canon Kameras echt nicht die beste war!!
    Ich kann mich noch erinnern als ich mit meiner 5div in den Bergen unterwegs war und einen schönen Pinken Afterglow vom Sonnenuntergang fotografiert habe… ich hab die Farben mit der Kamera einfach nicht einfangen können, hab dann meine 5dII genommen und damit hat es dann geklappt.
    Lg hast ein Abo mal sehen was in Zukunft bei dir noch kommt😄

    My main lens for my Leica M6 and M10 is a 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss. The other two lenses I use are 21mm f/1.4 and 90mm f/2 Leica lenses.
    I found it humorous that you use a Voigtländer lens, yet say that Leica produces a unique look?

    I'm not surprised that the Leica gives better files - the sensor and the colour science are very refined. But, then again, Canon is not the leader in image quality. So it wasn't exactly a fair challenge!
    In any case, I agree with what you say about the M. I don't have one because it doesn't match with what I do. And that's fine - no camera system is for everybody. But I will buy one because sometimes there is a social event, and I think it would be the perfect camera to take to that.
    I don't like the M for headshots because even the 135mm lens isn't long enough. 180mm or equivalent is ideal for headshots. But for portraits which are a little more loose, even the 90mm is fine.
    I wonder though - I have noticed moiré in some images with the Leica (and most sensors without a low-pass filter). Has that been a problem for you?
    BTW one more thing - I think that you should have had no music at all in this video. Sometimes maybe music is appropriate, but not usually. It's quite annoying and almost never necessary.

    I don’t understand at all. I can’t say anything about professionals, only about amateurs. The group of amateurs who know both how to take advantage of the subtleties of Leica products and can afford the equipment must be very small.

    The most important part of a Leica kit are the lenses, not the cameras. In terms of IQ, better to have Leica glass attached to non-Leica bodies (via adapters) than the reverse. But, as in this video, most people do it the other way around. Bad idea.

    People buy Leica because they are rich. They probably also have Rolex watches.

      I own a Leica, I'm not rich and live on disablement benefits. I just sold my other camera's and bought the Leica. I find its all I need.

    • @Gj_frames
      @Gj_frames 2 года назад +3

      I’m not rich at all, living in a wealthy country thou. But I had a fuji X-Pro3 and during my fuji years I had collected some lenses. Then I counted on it and realized that I almost only shot the 35mm f1.4 and really wanted the Leica experience in my x-pro 3 (which is impossible). So I sold everything and bought an m10 with a TTartisan 50mm f1.4. Now I also have a Voigtlander 28mm f2. The thing about richness is just stupid. Many engage photographer has equipment worth a lot more than a used Leica. But they “can’t sell their Sony A7IV and 3-4 lenses”. They can’t work with a leica… if youre a sports/wild life-photographer, or product/food photographer then, you probably stick to a canon/sony thing. But of you shoot weddings, portraits, family, documentary, landscape, nature or almost anything else that doesn’t require 100mm+ or a close focus closer than 0.7m, then you can have a Leica M-series 🤷‍♂️

      A Leica is an investment in your work or your passion, I know it's an expensive camera and it's not for everybody. But I think camera gear is overall pretty expensive no matter what you buy, especially if you want a full frame camera.
