John Denver died long before his time; he was truly an AMERICAN TREASURE! His talent and love of our earth flew forth in his crystal clear voice, lyrics and music! Whenever I hear his songs, tears still always come into my eyes because he so loved and so missed.
I cannot understand people who dislike John Denver. His songs were beautiful. My best friend and I saw John in Memphis , way back in the 70's. It was an experience !!!
Like all of John's songs, beautiful and heart warming. His is missed so much and will never be forgotten. Thank you John for your love of music and all of Mother nature too.
The first time I heard this song on "Back Home Again", I began to suspect that John had heard my story and told it through chords and lyrics and put it on a recording. I always felt like an outsider among my peers in school, even though I'd been in the same schools for years.. I thought I was alone until I heard this song and became a born again believer at the same time. "Sweet Surrender" was MY song, MY theme. It still is to this day. After being let go from a job I'd held for decades, I made a screen saver for my soon-to-be ex-terminal with a photo taken of me walking down a snow trail and part of the verse from Sweet Surrender": "There's a spirit that guides me, a light that shines for me..." As I said, this was MY song. JD just put it together better than I could. God bless you all and peace to your spirits.
This has always been a most WONDERFUL song. I remember hearing it when it first came out, and just loved it. I heard Annie's Song on the radio at about the same time on a music program, and the host described how it came about. Seems like yesterday! Great job with the animation Michelle!! Very well put together. Excellent production! John
Sweet Surrender (John Denver song) - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Surrender_(John_Denver_s... "Sweet Surrender" is the title of a popular song by the American singer- songwriter John Denver. It was originally recorded for his 1974 album Back Home Again, but was ... "Sweet Surrender" was the opening theme song of the 1974 Walt Disney movie The Bears and I. It also starred Patrick Wayne, son of the late John Wayne.
I remember being maybe 5 or 6 years old and dancing to this song in my grandparents summerhome. It was the late 70´s and my mom had bought a cassette with this song on it. Where does the time go? P.s. Great song and so is the vid. D.s.
When I first heard John Denver sing Sweet Surrender on a John Denver cassette from his Rhymes & Reason album, I always pictured myself riding on Amtrak’s Westbound California Zephyr heading West for Denver to visit family there and especially arriving in Denver by Amtrak.
I still can't believe this awesome man is gone and way too soon, he left behind a wonderful legacy that for me, hasn't been matched by another single. His voice was smooth as silk and I cried when I watched his story last week, please check it out, it's called " Take me Home", I miss this man and his beautiful voice so much and for me, there hasn't been another voice that could ever compare to his !!
Fantastic song, particularly this live version. I love how it starts fairly slow, but just builds through the entire song to a crescendo at the end. Also, with all due respect to James Burton, Jim Horn, Emory Gordy and others of John’s later band members, I think the incarnation of the band here, with Steve Weisberg, John Sommers, Dick Kniss and Hal Blaine was the best incarnation. I’d also add in Mike Taylor, for many reasons, but chiefly for the immortal riff to the intro of Rocky Mountain High.
Ha esa mujer que nunca me entendio yo aun la recuerdo estuve a punto de regalarle este disco pero no lo hice y creo que fue lo mejor tanto que la ame y para que para nada bueno asi es la vida ANIMO AMIGOS
@Moonlightwolfpup You're welcome again Michelle, and I want a few of my yesterdays back too! I remember hearing this on the radio one evening in 1975, and thinking "they play this all the time!" And how wonderful was that? And Annie's Song is timeless!
my brother G-d I miss you. You closed your eyes forever in the house at Windsong. Aug 8 2018 Thank you for the time we had. Fly now with the ancestors. G-d I miss your heart. Forever I love you. Lost and alone on some forgotten highway Traveled by many, remembered by few Lookin' for something that I can believe in Lookin' for something that I'd like to do with my life There's nothin' behind me and nothin' that ties me to Something that might have been true yesterday Tomorrow is open, right now it seems to be more than enough To just be here today, and I don't know What the future is holdin' in store I don't know where I'm goin' I'm not sure where I've been There's a spirit that guides me, a light that shines for me My life is worth the livin', I don't need to see the end Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air Lost and alone on some forgotten highway Traveled by many, remembered by few Lookin' for something that I can believe in Lookin' for something that I'd like to do with my life There's nothin' behind me and nothin' that ties me to Something that might have been true yesterday Tomorrow is open, right now it seems to be more than enough Just be here today, and I don't know What the future is holdin' in store I don't know where I'm goin' I'm not sure where I've been There's a spirit that guides me, a light that shines for me My life is worth the livin', I don't need to see the end Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care
Although this song was really written for a Disney TV show called "Gentle Ben" starring Patrick Wayne (the son of the late John Wayne) it was really about a Bear. This is cute too. I just wish the Production Company Dreamworks had used more of John Denver's musics for "Spirit: The Stallion of The Cimarron" the benefits would have been far greater. I like it, its really cute!!!
Actually this is not from Gentle Ben, it is from a Disney film called "The Bears And I". The sheet music was part of the first edition of the "Disney Illustrated Songbook" released in the 80's that also included sheet music for some other great lesser known songs from Disney like "These Are The Best Times" from Superdad, and "I'd Like To Be You For A Day" from the original (and best) Freaky Friday.

Beautiful video, Beautiful song; sung only by John Denver, the Voice
Been listening to JohnDenver all my life; I am 78; 3 yrs older than, love JD.…...Love, Love, Love him and his music
Here in September 2024 John's music never gets old. Love his music since the early 70's. As a 64 old man he still put ease in my mind
I agree, his songs have been there for me all my life!
I have listened to John's music mostly everyday since 1974. I had the honor of meeting him and he truly was a beautiful down to earth man.
Such a beautiful voice - nothing yet in the World to replace him.
and there never will be he was one of a kind voice
there is not a need to replace him who is in our heart of hearts
Like all of John's songs, beautiful and heart warming. His is missed so much and will never be forgotten. Thank you John for your love of music and all of Mother nature too.

How can 41 people not like this song, or John Denver? Maybe they don't like themselves, either?
Disney Still Rocks fifty years on

Lost and alone on some forgotten highway
Traveled by many, remembered by few
Lookin' for something that I can believe in
Lookin' for something that I'd like to do with my life
There's nothin' behind me and nothin' that ties me to
Something that might have been true yesterday
Tomorrow is open, right now it seems to be more than enough
To just be here today, and I don't know
What the future is holdin' in store
I don't know where I'm goin' I'm not sure where I've been
There's a spirit that guides me, a light that shines for me
My life is worth the livin', I don't need to see the end
Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care
Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air
Sweet, sweet surrender, live, live without care
Like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air
Lost and alone on some forgotten highway
Traveled by many, remembered by few
Lookin' for something that I can believe in
