Thank you soo much for the tour you made everything look easier to follow I was gonna drive to the airport to familiarise myself with the new airport layout for pick up and drop off area before I actually do a pick later on but now dont need to as you have done that for everyone so thank you soso much for your video very much appreciated 🙏🙏.
@kiwibelt yeah you really think we like running for the bus when we see it there and majority of the time the bus takes off just as we get near the bus
@@wekiwisdofly85 I understand that is annoying… But that doesn’t really have anything to do with my response to the previous post. You stated that you have to walk for ages to get to the terminal now. You don’t actually. You can step off the bus and be inside the terminal in 2 1/2 minutes. it’s hardly a marathon. Busses taking off when you’re almost at the door - has happened to me a couple of times as well. I’ve spoken to the drivers and they are all under really strict orders that they must depart on the dot of their timetable . They have been told by their management that even if people are running for the bus they must depart absolutely on schedule. I think it’s got something to do with Auckland International Airport Limited/ Park and Ride not wanting to be liable to the airlines for holding up operations if their staff are late to work because the new car park is so much further away from the airport and prone to bad traffic in the afternoons especially.
One lane into the pick-up and drop-off zone is ridiculous. Should be two lanes. It’s going to be traffic chaos funnelling all those cars into there. And it’s still a 50 metre walk to the terminal from the pick-up and drop-off zone. In civilised first-world countries it’s right outside the bloody terminal.
It looks a poor design to me, single transit lane and parking lanes not wide enough to fully open the car doors. Good luck with that on a busy holiday day its already struggling by the look of it..
I thought the old one was chaotic, this one just looks like a covered version of the old one. But there again, they don't want us to drive to the airport.
The old pick ip drop off area had 2 lanes, so this one lane system increases congestion. It has the bonus of being covered. The walk is not that much more than it was before. But to manouver out of the car in the width provided isn't that practical, especially when you have luggage on your back seat to get out, children, or need mobility aids. That's even when parked up to the curb. It doesn't feel safe to get out of your vehicle unless you are on the curbside when you have these additional issues. The queue time to get through due to congestion was awful.
That is great, thanks for sharing. Don't want to sound negative, but this is typical of Auckland transport. How many aircraft take off and land in an hour, and there is only one lane in and one lane out!! It's a case, let's build something and then discuss what we can do, to make it work.
Have to collect my wife from the airport again in a few days. So the pick up/drop off area is actually further from the entrance/exit than before. Same for buses to the city and shuttles. Not every one travels by car. True there's a lot of work still to do but that won't alter the basic layout, just tidy it up a bit. On the whole nothing to get excited about.
I landed there last week, coming from Sydney. It was an underwhelming experience: 45 minutes to get the luggage onto the belts, and then another 20 minutes to walk to the taxi rank. Z grade airport.
Yes, it continues to be embarrassing! Sorry. Domestic is an even bigger joke but you will survive it and end up in a lovely provincial airport that we are proud of. Any number of those!
At Sydney airport the luggage is generally delivered to the belts within 10-15 minutes. The taxi rank is right outside the arrivals hall. Not that I need to use a taxi. I catch the train home from the station underneath the airport at a cost of $15. That's a piece of basic public infrastructure that's spectacularly absent at Auckland airport, where a taxi into town via the traffic-clogged motorway costs $100. Sydney airport is orders of magnitude better than Auckland airport.
@@robertthomson1587 totally agree in regards to services provided at Sydney Airport. Auckland desperately needs a rail link. I just find that both Sydney and Melbourne airports (particularly in their arrivals and gate lounge areas) are a little Grotty.
And next week, there'll be more alterations to the alterations. The airport has been undergoing constant construction changes ever since it opened in the 60's.. Seems like planning ahead wasn't considered previously, and still hasn't been. Much like the Harbour Bridge..
I have had the unfortunate experience as a mobility challenged elderly person. Why inflict the long walks from this hub to the terminal without offering transportation for disabled? Schocking
I agree! I only have minor mobility issues but it's enough to make the much longer walk from the short-term car park to the terminal really very difficult - and unless it's been put in since, there are no seats to rest on along the way or a travelator to help. I was nearly in tears walking it last time, so I'd hate to be someone with serious mobility issues, elderly, injured, or simply with a lot of luggage.
That carpark has been under construction for years if not a decade. Cant remember the time there were no cones or construction there. Also, It looks like its just the same pick up/drop off area as before or is it where there used to be a car park just over from the original pick up/drop off? I think that was the original E car park before they moved it back where it is now.
So you drop grandma off in her wheelchair give her her suitcase and carryon…..give the chair a shove and say good luck wheeling your self to the terminal
@@anthonyvero4648I don't think an additional lane would've added much to the complex's total cost of $300+ million. Time will soon tell whether that queue upon entry will diminish.
So useful guide. But I have to agree that the layout is a bit rubbish but also, I think you gotta work with what you have right? Quite a significant improvement though.
Design is ill-conceived Reminiscent of the movie "Dumb and Dumber," attempting to fix something that was not broken. The new drop-off area appears more constricted, and navigating to the parking lot requires an additional loop, exacerbating traffic congestion on the airport approach Road.
Terrible redesign! Terminal is too far from short term parking if you have to wait for someone arriving or staying with someone before they fly out. Especially for those of us with mobility issues! And the single lanes to get to drop off/pickup are going to be a nightmare at busy times.. and it’s also further away as well. Why take away all that space in the middle there? Was bad enough when they took some of it away for that hotel, now the whole area is gone? What are they doing with it I wonder 🤔
Auckland Airport goes out of its way to make it as inconvenient as possible for private motorists to pick up and drop off people so in that respect it is a success. In reality an epic fail yet again when we not have the options for public transport that Airports overseas have.
Going to be honest, still shit. Should be an elevated roadway to the first floor where the checkin desks should be and the arrivals on the ground floor.
Stupidest design and layout Eva. You gotta walk a mile to catch a taxi. Taxi’s won’t take you short distances. Auckland used to be friendly and helpful. The layout in this airport is hard to find anything, you gotta walk too far after travelling eight hours on a flight. Disappointing.
I travel all around the world, and this is has got to be the most annoying, confusing, slow, long walking, silly layout ever. Who came up with this design and even worse, who approved it? The only thing i found slightly useful is the online prepaid parking system.
Same I feel Aucklands infrastructure, including its international and domestic airports, is backward compared to other cities around the world 🌎. It's embarrassing.
When I came to New Zealand, a Kiwi friend said to me that as long as you can handle living in a third-world banana republic, I'd be fine-he was correct, but you get used to it.
Auckland Airport couldn’t design a teabag. One look at the awful domestic terminal is enough to tell anyone how useless they are. And their priorities are muddled - why are they continually fluffing with international? All those overseas visitors eventually get into the domestic terminal which is scruffier than most provincial airports due to underinvestment over decades.

Thank you for doing this video. Appreciated. 👍🏼
Just the queue before getting anywhere close enough, makes my hackles rise.
Thanks for posting.
Us staff who work there hate where the new park and ride bus stop is now. You gotta walk for ages to the terminal now!
Seriously? It’s like a 2 minute walk!
@kiwibelt yeah you really think we like running for the bus when we see it there and majority of the time the bus takes off just as we get near the bus

Did they considered the senior citizen to walk that 50m?????
Great video, thank you this helps me big time going to the airport.
Thanks for the heads up 👍🏽
Thankyou for uploading
Having to go right round again to get into the short term parking is ridiculous - hopefully that's just temporary?
It looks a poor design to me, single transit lane and parking lanes not wide enough to fully open the car doors. Good luck with that on a busy holiday day its already struggling by the look of it..
New Zealand is awkward af
plenty of room to open the doors, people are just lazy and park too far from the curb.
You need to lose weight then 😂

Short term parking too far from terminal and no covered walk way.
Clouds dark on the back ground Satan is definitely doing a quiet cream pie
Looks like it was designed by the same people who did the southern motor way .
Thank you 😊 👍
Looks horrific, single lane entry and exit and look at how small they are! This is going to turn into a traffic congestion hell
That's so cool. What a change. 😮😊
Whose smart idea was it to make the public entry/passage a single lane?
Are you paying for it?
@@anthonyvero4648I don't think an additional lane would've added much to the complex's total cost of $300+ million. Time will soon tell whether that queue upon entry will diminish.

Hope no traffic jam out pick up and drop off area like Christchurch Airport did during peak time
The whole thing from start to finish is only one lane. Not just the entry

What for us cant even house the tangata whenua from here
Thats great but where's the light rail or rail going to the airport
Last government fumbled the opportunity, new government wants to take us back to the 1950's and build only roads.
Cancelled.

The best thing about Auckland is its airport departure lounge - means you're getting away from the shithole!
Absolute shambles when busy.
What a disaster! Single lane in for pick up / drop off.
Sadly I have zero confidence in AIAL ability to provide a clever design…/ airport that works for its passenger customers..
