08:38 Mom, showing her Heart Rocks she carried all the way. Ha-Ha!!!! You all are having so much fun as you get closer to the finish. I wonder if you ever met a lovely young lady who uses the trail name; "Twiggy Hikes"? She travels slow, and takes amazing flower, and critter videos along the PCT, that I believe "The Field Trip", especially mom would really enjoy watching. You are my Number 1 PCT hikers to watch, with "Twiggy Hikes" being a close second. Between the two of you, I'm getting such great great video adventures of the lovely PCT. Thank you so much for for the awesome content. Love, and Prayers to all!!!!!!
At 11:17 to 11:24 two guys and a girl that you met talking about pizza, the guy in the white shirt and the coral colored shorts that’s “Jupiter Hikes”. Cool!
Yes, Jupiter, Gasket & Mooch. Individually & together we'd seen them on & off but weren't sure if this was goodbye, so captured them for a moment. All great people!
5:56 Nice catch getting that sign. That is an very old sign. The Cascade Crest Trail was the predecessor to the PCT in Washington. But I think that sign is from the 1970s. In those days they would sign it Cascade Crest Trail No. 2000 Pacific Crest Trail System. At one time it probably had the Pacific Crest Trail System diamond shaped sign below it. The same for the Skyline Trail in Oregon. I guess in those days more people knew the trail as the Cascade Crest Trail then the PCT.
With the amount of snow in 2023 the PCT will be impossible this summer! Your videos have shown a low snow winter leads to success! And even then the amount of slips, falls and hard traverses was off the charts due to snow!
Yes, this snow will definitely make things interesting! It's already impacting people's start on PCT and other trails. It'll be interesting to see how the melt goes and how it impacts certain sections. Last year, I believe it was the later than usual (spring) snow that lingered on the PCT. This year is crazy. I bet people will jump around. They'll watch the rate of thaw/melt. Hopefully, people stay safe and don't have to miss too much trail.
Hi Mogul! Thanks for watching & hopefully, it's been helpful as you were preparing! Have an awesome hike! Did you see a few familiar faces in the video when we were on the TRT/PCT?!
Would you say the views going North of Snowqualmie were more dramatic (cliffs and lakes) than south within say 20, of I'm guessing I90? What were the most scenic parts of the PCT in Washington?
Tough question, not sure I have an answer. I do think as we went North it was more dramatic. All of WA was incredible (which is why this question is tough). Of course, Goat Rocks is impressive. And yes, North of Snoqualmie, particularly scenic/grand/dramatic.
Absolutely filtered in the desert, filtered most of the time, higher elevations or melting glaciers we were a bit more relaxed. And on some occasions thousands of miles in we may have been lazy. Believe 3 of us had giardia or something maybe from water early on in desert. Other than that, no problems. Source by source evaluation.
I should've added that the water may not have been to blame for sickness. I also worry/think about lack of hand washing, constantly touching gear/food, etc.
I have been watching your videos for quite a while, but I forgot ... (other than the mountain climb) do you ever hike along with anyone else for a while? I know you do know other hikers but just wondered if you "throw in your lot" sometimes and do sections with others. And, yes ... you're lucky to have the boys ... I'm sure you'd do fine anyway, but I have a TERRIBLE sense of direction and am notoriously awful at reading trails!!!!
We do hike with others here and there, but typically, limited amounts of time for a variety of reasons. We manage on our own, but there are a few people that we really enjoyed hiking with and were hard to say goodbye to! I try to respect the other hikers and assume they don't want a camera/video in their face, so try to keep it to a minimum.
Stunning scenery and fantastic hiking video.
We love watching your videos and are so impressed with your boys and you on this amazing hike. Can’t wait to see you all make it to Canada!
Yay!! Can't wait for the final days videos. I appreciate you sharing.
Thank you!!

Leaving for PCT on the 9 March... enjoyed your " the Field Trip" Mogul AT 2021

Did you have/use a cook system on the PCT?
On the AT, we determined jetboil was best for us/5 to share. On PCT hardly used it, so sent it home at some point.

Within about 20 miles of the ski resort ,// I 90?
I think Jupiter hikes almost always smiles. He has great vlogs.

Are you drinking unfiltered water? What is the reason...just trying to learn what the reasoning is? Thanks

@@thefieldtrip thanks for the info.
@thefieldtrip didn't think of that and that's so true...since I only do shorter sections by myself didn't enter my thoughts

@@thefieldtrip that's a very good point. Not everyone wants to be on camera!!!
