You've all probably heard about The eVolo Skyscraper Competition which is an annual call to architects, designers, and urban planners around the globe to explore new ideas for vertical living. In this tutorial, we will cover how to quickly create an Evolo Tower winning project from 2018 using Grasshopper only. It is called Foldable Skyscraper for Disaster Zones designed by Damian Granosik, Jakub Kulisa, Piotr Pańczyk. The project is based on a tensile structure so you will learn how to combine Grasshopper with physics solver Kangaroo.
The extended version of this tutorial will be focused on rendering and animation with V-Ray. You will learn how to create and apply V-Ray materials, how to add a V-Ray infinite plane, the lighting, and how to import named views from Rhino into Grasshopper and use them from renderings as V-Ray Cameras. Also, you will learn how to combine Kangaroo with V-ray, and how to render each iteration and create animation from them.

Would have been nice we had this tutorial back then! The original geometry was modeled using Rhino only. Nice work with the script!
Great project though! Congrats on winning the first prize! 👏🏻
Congratulations to the team!
This video is on fire... I love listening to people that know what they are doing. Channel content always amazes me!
Thanks Yigit! We really appreciate it!
Awesome, keep up the good work guys! Looking forward to see more videos like this.
Glad you like it.
Absolute fantastic!!! I need learn this!!!
Hey Henrique,
Thanks! Glad you like the tutorial!

Very nice video
Well done
Thank you Mahmood
thank you so much!!
You're welcome! Cheers
Obrigado pelo seu trabalho duro. I need to learn more Rhino!

verry good job :)
friendly advice. watch this video in slow motion 0.75 or 0.5.
Thanks bro!
Any time, glad you liked the tutorial! :)
Nice video but the part with support structure from relative items nodes was pretty hard to follow. The reason is you didn't mentioned the need to simplify the floor point tree before using them and only doing it in like 1-2 frames of the video.
Followed the steps but the Bouncy Solver is too slow compared with your video. I get 39246 values in GoalObjects, don't know if it's normal or excessive. I have pretty fast computer tho.
Thanks really
Hey Francesco,

what plug in did you install @ the 5:17 marker for the subdivision mesh
Plugin is called Weaverbird. You can download it here: www.giuliopiacentino.com/weaverbird/
Thanks!
You're welcome Fabio :)
Complicated somehow for someone who has never worked with Rhino and don't even know how the Grasshoper interface looks like. Also to quick for a beginner to follow
Hi Sammy, sure, I understand. If you're interested in going from zero, you may want to check our free masterclass that is available on our website. It will give you an insight of some of the basics and how to get started with Rhino and Grasshopper :)

it's hard to do a building like this in real life because the translucent tensile fabrics are combustible
not always, right?
🧐😳🤔
This video is too fast please slow down a bit next time
Thank you for the feedback.
