In this video tutorial, you will learn how to replicate the complex dome design of the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi, which was designed by Jean Nouvel. We will show you how to use both Rhino and Grasshopper to achieve a similar result. Our process will begin in Rhino, where we will generate a single module. From there, we will move on to Grasshopper, where we will transform the shape into a mesh, and place it onto 4 different square grids that are projected on the dome surface. Once we have 4 different layers we will apply thickness to each module and get the final shape.
In the extended tutorial, we will create the whole dome design in Grasshopper only. Rather than drawing the module in Rhino first, we will use Grasshopper components to create the module fully parametrical allowing us to easily adjust it with a few simple sliders if needed. By following this tutorial, you will gain an understanding of how to speed up your modeling process by incorporating more parametric principles of module variations.

It depends on the surface, it's not really a universal definition that you can apply to any surface
