Damn. I remember this, I lived in Summerville at the time. This was very nerve wrecking and made it very difficult to attend church.

I'm a Catholic, and one year later, ISIS called for violence against us. Lone wolves killed Catholics in our churches, including one who very graphically killed an elderly priest at the altar while he was leading a service in a church in Normandy.
I know we felt very, very vulnerable, not knowing where in the world a lone wolf might be inspired to do the same.
I looked at our church, and made my various escape plans. But I also
tried to remind myself: how rarely are we, as modern Christians in an industrialized nation with religious protections, called on to put ourselves at risk for the sake of our love for God?
It helped me give that vulnerability a purpose.

Yeah I remember being by the Kmart on Ladson when I heard from a cashier. Absolutely blew me away. I ended up joining the hand chain in the bridge, too.
Welcomed in by tha church goers with open arms and opened fire just because of tha colour of their skin was different from his and he lacked emotional and remorseful of his actions and his victims families shouldn't have said that they forgave him for destroying their lives forever during his bond hearings.
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has been affected by this horrible tragic deaths of innocent happy church going people RIP guys forever in everyone's thoughts since you all left a huge missing part of your family and friends lives always in our thoughts and prayers

This church is downtown right by the library... I went here a few times ... Walked by it too many times to even remember. This is my hometown and I must say when this happened I was heartbroken. It's crazy because you never in a million years would've imagine something like this would happen In my small little town. This was so crazy ..

A church should never be a place of violence. I know our church has recieved training in responding to an active shooter including use of armed force and medical training for treating trauma.

I think we have lost the meaning of the word Hero. Not meant to take anything away from these people. They survived a horrific event. That is great. The mom protected her child. That could be considered heroic I suppose, but the child that survived is so very fortunate, but I'm not sure how they are a hero. This is such an awful thing to have happened to these people and I am glad they have been able to get through this.
More importantly, how can we stop this? By this I mean hate. White hating black, Black Hating Asian, etc. etc. Hate is just EVIL
