The Plughole in the Peak District that you may not know about?
Ladybower Reservoir and the overflowing plugholes are the dominant talking poit when it comes to the Reservoirs of the Peak District. But did you know nearby there is in fact a third plughole?
Smaller in size but on a wet day could be equally as terrifying.
I begin my hunt for this elusive third plughole heading up the vally alongside a fast flowing rocky stream away from the Rivelin Reservoirs in search of the 3 Redmires Reservoirs. Taking a walk around all 3 reservoirs i head up to the top to discover the third plughole in the Peaks.

Fabulous. The snow added to the beauty! Thanks so much.
Thanks Susie. I'm glad it snowed even though it was never forecast 😂
Love your vods.
Pissed myself stupid at the message written on that wall.
You know the one.🤣🤣🤣
Ha ha ha I known it's a very unique one 😂
Thank you for watching 🙂
Great video! Loved the drone footage over the plughole.
I flew mine over Ladybower last summer. My dry video looks boring compared to yours now 😀
Stunning scenery mate. In my younger years I could take walks like this but now being partially disabled with breathing difficulties, it's terrific to still be able to see sights like this. Thank you.
I'm so pleased that you enjoy them Dave 😃
@@TrekkingExploration thanks buddy, I do.
Same. Keep On.
@@suzyqualcast6269 me too
My sentiments too Dave. I’m now too old to walk the countryside like I used to but this gentleman’s enthusiasm showing us what’s out there is a delight to see.
Amazing Ariel shots, stay warm, stay safe.
Thanks very much Patricia 😃
Another breathtaking video Ant. Love the atmospheric soundtrack too.
Thanks very much Steve 😃
Brilliant video, cheers! Love that random message on the wall " Let's all agree to........" Thee most surprising item you have yet come across:)
Ha yes in the old stone hut 😃😂 Thanks for watching
Thank you for another breathtaking video today, Ant! These are always memorable to see and comprehend. Careful on the rocks while climbing. See you on the next. Cheers mate! ❤🇬🇧🙂👍🇺🇸
Thanks very much Martin. It's one I'll return to in the summer months 🙂
Just as beautiful as the Lakes
Wonderfully shot again and full of information. One thing you have to admire the tenacity of the vandals to think 'right I need a tin of white paint and a 2" brush, not the aerosols today nope 2" brush!'
Any snapshot of this video would make a wonderful subject for a painting. As always Ant, another fabulous video. Thank you. Cheers, Bob
Wow, that is just stunning Ant. Thank you so much for sharing this. Take care.
Thanks very much Christine as always 🙂
Another really interesting vlog, thank you very much.
I have never heard of these reservoirs.
Thanks very much Roy. It's a new one for me too 😃
another great video Ant, thought it was only Ladybower reservoir had plug holes, wonder how many more there are. keep safe Ant
Lovely video with amazing scenery...especially after a little dusting. All the best.
Thanks very much for watching Tim 🙂
Thanks Ant, great music, great scenery and well put together😊
Thank you Mike that's very kind 🙂
I’ve never heard of redmire reservoirs,I have now thanks to your good self. Again very interesting and a good learning tool, beautiful photography, stunning scenery, snow makes it to,and great music.
Wow what breathe taking scenery love your videos... xx
Thanks very much indeed 🙂🙂
That drone footage was brilliant. Just loved that river, what a beautiful sound. Plug hole was incredible. Just loved the video. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care
Hi Ant, second amazing video of 2023, thanks very much for taking us with you.
Thank you very much Phillip 🙂
Beautifuly beeeautifuly filmed sir,
And expertly presented.
THANK YOU
💖🙏💖
Thanks for another interesting video, complete with the excellent soundtrack. There is something endlessly fascinating about reservoirs and sinkholes, rushing water, and wonderful scenery.
Stunning, there are still plenty to see if you start at Malin Bridge at the very bottom of rivelin valley and follow the path all the way up to Whyming Brook, you'll pass numerous abandoned remains of mills where the cutlery trade started with grinding wheels, plus its just as beautiful as this video, got to love Sheffield and the surrounding area.
Amazing photos and find. Thanks for sharing
Thanks very much for watching. 🙂🙂
Great series on Ladybower and surrounding area. The plugholes are fascinating, and if anyone is interested Patrick Dickinson did a Ladybower Reservoir Plughole Explore Inside and Out, in case you've ever wondered what a plughole looks like on the inside, and where does all that water go.
You caught the scenery in this video beautifully. It is stunning. You were spot on about the snow, it emphasised outlines and features. Your drone footage makes me want to be a bird. The views 😍. You were made to do this. Thanks Ant for all your work.
I've always been fascinated with these 'plugholes' never had a chance to see one when it's been overflowing.. Brilliantly captured here.. 👍😀
It's actually making me want to hunt them down see how many I can find 😂
What an amazing place! Great work with the drone, as always. It just gets better and better. So strange that nobody else was out in a SNOW STORM, however brief! I love it! Cheers, mate. 😂
Very dramatic Ant, stunning, reminiscent of the lord of the rings! Thanks for that!
I didn't realise we were on the hunt - Errwood Reservoir has one too (a big one), and to mix things up has a structure around it.
Looks great there, have to take a walk up there sometime, thanks for the inspiration
Marvellous stuff, first class editing
Thank you very much Richard 😃😃
Another brilliant episode in this series. Thanks for taking the scenic route and walking us through that magical woodland. The reservoirs are a bit bleak but that plughole made up for it, who knew!!! Thanks Ant, great snowy footage, more to come, great👍👍👍👍👍
That looked a smashing walk beside the brook on the way up. It looks a bit tricky in those conditions. Cheers Ant, and thanks.
Lovely scenery and beautiful sound of the rushing water thanks for your continuing walks around the beauty of what mother nature has to offer x
Stunning drone footage there, I could have watched a piece from countryfile. Love the music chosen for it! Looking forward to
The next one!
Enjoyed the river gushing at the start Ant looks a really nice place to walk and see 👍
Another brilliant video. You captured the colours and scenery just perfectly. That was really awesome. Well done Ant. Another first. Amazing.
I see on the old map there's an old roman road from where the reservoirs are now. Great vid. The snow takes the footage to another level. Need to revisit that area soon.
I wouldn't have known that there was another plughole, Ant. You did well to trek up through that rough terrain to get to the reservoirs. The plughole itself looks mighty fearsome, and I wonder how far the bottom of it is. Great drone footage of the reservoirs, and so, many thanks for this production.
Very good - I didn't know about these 3 Reservoirs!!! & thanks to you - now I do - Thanks for sharing!!! 🙂🚂🚂🚂
They were new to me too only a week ago 🙂
Another cracking video
Thanks Charles 🙂
Ant, you are so lucky to live in a place with so many places to get out for a day hike, hiking is so much better that sitting and watching TV all day. TV at night is okey, can't see much on a night hike. The snow made for some outstanding drone shots. Thanks for all the walking you do for us the viewer.
You've done it again. Another cracking video of one of my favourite areas. Thank you for bringing back some very fond memories.
Thanks very much Trevor. So pleased you enjoyed it 🙂
Beautiful scenery, well put together and great quality. It must be my favourite video yet Ant, Thank you. 👍
Thanks Ged. I was pleasantly surprised with the waterfall climb/ walk I didn't expect this 🙂
another excellent video 👍what lovely scenery from the drome it looks very picturesque in the snow that stream was certainly in full flow glad you found the plug hole i wonder where that water ends up 🤔
Hi Ant, a spectacular video with really effective drone footage. I find that your choices of soundtrack compliment the videos perfectly. I cannot find any listings of the music you use; can you indicate where you source such great music tracks? Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Well done Ant another great video and an excellent find. Looks like a visit is needed, thank you.
Thanks Barry. It's definitely worth a visit. I knew nothing about this one myself only a week ago
Great video Ant with gorgeous scenery made better by the snow. thanks for taking us along with you.
Thank you. It's a gorgeous area that I didn't expect
Stunning video with the drone footage, plug hole and snow
Thanks very much. The snow really did add to it 🙂
Absolutely stunning. I so enjoyed that
Brilliant thanks so very much 🙂
Genuinely stunning video this! I'm so glad you managed to get some incredible drone footage in
I think the snow was going to stop the droning but I'd have gone back another day. Glad I got it when I did. Thanks very much for watching 😃
Hi Ant. Great video as always. Redmires is a few minutes from me and I run up Wyming Brook very often. Nice to see you on my home turf! There's a load of other great infrastructure stuff nearby. Maybe we can go for an explore one day and I can show you some hidden stuff?
Fabulous video as always, keep it up 👍🏼
Thanks very much Malcolm
Another great vid thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks very much Phillip 🙂
Who knew plug holes could be so fascinating? Love these exploring videos.
None of them are "plugholes", they are overspill holes, imagine what would happen if you put a "plug" in it....ugh
Another great video Ant, produced to the highest standard. Thanks.
Thank you very much John very kind 🙂
Great video! Can’t wait to see where it goes and the other details you talked about. Cheers from Florida!
Thank you. There's definitely more to go back for 🙂
Another brilliant video 👍👍
Thank you very much Brian
Love your video and narration. The scenery, and drone footage was really nice. Meriden
So pleased you enjoyed it and thank you too
Excellent video'.. well put across and very professional,.. the drain from that plughole runs East alongside the road,. and can be walked when dried out,. I look forward to your coming 'Rivelin tunnel' clip.. it's a fascinating piece of engineering - I spent a lot of my youth around Wyming brook and 'Fox holes lodge' and know the area well. ,. // Again,... you do some brilliant informative work.,. Thanks.
Brilliant footage and photos. Looks like you got a really good day for it too.
Thanks very much. I thought I'd have to go back another day for the drone but luckily it worked out just fine
Superb shots of the plughole - and the tumbling stream on the way up. Great stuff!
Thanks very much Malcolm. The stream walk and climb was unexpected it was one of the best I have done
Amazing. Where did you start this amazing walk ?
Beautiful,, drone shots were fantastic, such lovely scenery, loved the music, I would love to walk along that way. Stunning,xx
It was somewhat tricky occasionally on the climb alongside the stream
Great stuff and loving the Derbyshire and Peak District videos 🙂 Be great if you did the Mickleover to Eggington disused rail line they used for test at one point. Lots of rail relic's still on there.
Thanks very much Andy I'm pleased you are enjoying them. I'll have a look at maps for the Railway 🙂
You probably mean Egginton (no "g"). It happens a lot to be fair.
@@Ozbert absolutely, should know better as im.ftom Hilton. The end is right next to Egginton. Crossing.
Beautiful footage
Thanks very much 😃 Thank you for watching 😃
Simply stunning. The vertical views of the plug holes for some reason make me think of the doctor who intros. I never visited this trio when I lived in the uk but I did the rivelin valley ones.
Thank you very much Jeff. I'll definitely return here in the summer too for a comparison video. I'm getting to be a Plughole Hunter 😂
Love wyming brook and Rivelin did the walk into sheff a few weeks ago. you caught it beautifully in your video.
Very kind Adie it really is a lovely area. Definitely more to go back for
What a beautiful location you discovered. Great video.
Thanks so very much Jill 😃
Great vid Ant😍
But I can’t understand why you haven’t seen anyone 🤔🤔
It’s minus 1 cold wet and might snow
Could this be the reason😂😂😂keep I’m coming mate
Magical, Matey.
Thanks very much 🙂
Thanks,i'll visit tomorrow
It's definitely worth a visit 🙂
Another fantastic video. Redmires is very familiar to me; I used to live 4 miles down the road and would often visit, often as part of an 8 mile run.
At Wyming Brook where the river meets Rivelin there's a tunnel which leads to Ladybower in a straight line.
That would make an interesting video.
Great work again!! 👏
Thanks very much David. I poked my nose into the Rivelin Tunnel. Crazy amount of water going through it currently
Absolutely stunning! I wonder if the shoe fell off as they fell into the plug hole?
If the overflow from a reservoir goes into a culvert or large pipeline then these circular or possibly multi sided shapes like an octagon are used the one at Errwood in the Goyt valley is similar but it also houses a tower which presumably goes down to the lowest outlet to control the flow into the lower Fernilee reservoir at times when the upper reservoir is to dry for the overflow to be in use. The Fernilee dam istself has a single tower int the dam which has a shaft which goes down to a series of filter and chlorination water treatment rooms actually built inside the dam. I visited it on a school trip in the 1960s when Errwood was being constructed. It was a very scary climb down a lot of vertical ladders.
Superb ...enuf said
Nice video Ant. I've not been up to Redmires for a few years, but am due to visit in the next few weeks - hoping to go along Wyming Brook and now want to see the plughole too! The plughole may not be on Google Earth, but it is easily visible on the OS map app ariel view.
I didn't actually know about this one. Also I didn't expect the beautiful walk and climb along the Wyming. What a lovely area. Thanks very much for watching
Some of your videos just came up on my recommended list and I found them very interesting.
It does make me wonder, if they increased the height of the plugholes, just a little bit if possible, how much extra capacity would they gain?
another good one ant and as you say would be worth going back in the summer.and i want to know where the plug hole goes lol
Thanks very much. I do too it might not be far but it'll be interesting 🙂
We have an interesting plug hole type at Digley Res, just outside Holme, Holmfirth in Yorkshire. It's a bit more ornate than the ladybower res ones. Have a look sometime.
Beautiful part of the world mate, your lucky you can do the walking and I'm glad I can see it in great detail. 😊
Thanks very much David I'll keep trying to find some nice interesting places 🙂
@@TrekkingExploration Looking forward to finding out where the water comes out
There is a big plughole at greenbooth reservoir in norden, Rochdale. It has a walkway built around it. Discharges into the naden brook.
Gd video mate keep up the good work
Thanks very much 🙂
Stunning video footage as you always do,,how far did you walk on this trip?
Thank you. I'd say maybe a 4 or 5 mile walk. Although the waterfall climb was particularly steep and slow at times
Near the lower of the Redmires reservoirs, in the woods, there's actually an underground reservoir. Just next to it there are (was) some abandoned waterworks buildings that can (could) be accessed. One of the buildings houses all sorts of old pumping equipment etc. Its a few years now since I was working around there and found it by accident. So may have all changed, but a great place to explore. Thanks for the great video. How you manage to stand on the slipway without slipping i do not know!
I may have been in this building when I went. Behind a stone wall and down the embankment from the lower reservoir? Thanks for watching 🙂
I just spat out my cornflakes when I read the graffiti in the work hut. Awesome filming and production on this one.
😂😂 yes it's a very unique bit of graffiti 😂
I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you 🙂
You can see its route on a map by the shafts.they had trouble going under the edge.and roof flooding.you could walk or drone the route.
Thanks very much for watching. I'll definitely go back again to look into this
Another one you may want to check out is at Diggle reservoir in the North West of the Peak District - you can get quite close to that from the pavement
Just walked round there earler today! Lovely 🤓
Looks like a lot of Hydro potential going walkies..
OK.
Any idea WHY they did em all in 3's ¿?
(even down to relatively, tiny Press Resr, betwixt Ashover and Wingerworth).....
Would be good if you could use feet and inches when describing depths etc but content is interesting.
Cowld out there today.. 💦
It was definitely colder yesterday when I went compared to the snow day I had there Monday
Everyone watching: is that a trainer? It definitely looks like one... but what's it doing there and how did it get there?
Ant: and there is even a shoe look.... [as if this is completely normal next to the vortex of doom sucking water in to the centre of the Earth]
Ha ha that shoe was somehow still there yesterday 😂😂 Thanks for watching 🙂
Nice place for the local mob to get rid of their opponents 😅😉
😂😂😂😂 I'll be careful when I go back 😂
fast moving water ,where does it all come from
There's been a heck of a lot of rain the week before this
Could you give me the postcode to this location of the plughole please
Sheffield S10 4QZ
@@TrekkingExploration thank you
@@peakadventures_ enjoy 🙂
ok ,where is all the water going
Hi is anyone available to give me some information on drones please?
Can I repair the stone house and live in it?
That would be good. Very isolated though 😂
Can we all agree to stop fucking sheep and chickens, OK?😂
