    Miss this place so much!! This was my absolute favorite ride, for some reason lol. I loved the slow season when there was no line for any of the rides, I'd ride this one back to back multiple times...go ride other rides and socialize for a bit and then hit ol greezed lightnin back up as my last ride for the night. Astroworld was such a magical place for me from elementary thru about 10 or 11th grade ❤❤❤

    Ahh... Greezed Lightning. That was the first roller coaster I've ever ridden back in 1988. I miss Astroworld.

    I used to work as a musician in the summer right next to this ride. This was our morning coffee. Woke you right up! We got used to the rythm of the ride hearing it over and over. The whine of acceleration, the screams through the loop, the quiet at the top, the screams going back. So, twice, we heard the startup and then the screams got suddenly cut off. Sure enough, the ride was stuck upside down at the top of the loop. We continued to ride it everyday anyway. My formula was to keep my hands raised and then through the loop, turn and look at the Astrodome doing a flip. What that did to your brain was amazing ha ha.

    Damn this brings back memories for me! This ride was scary as hell, but fun too! Same year Selena died as well.

    Wow! It doesn’t seem as fast as it actually was! This ride was awesome! It was closed one year because it went off the track in a practice run! Luckily no one was in it at the time.

    Omg I grew up in Beaumont 90 miles away. In Beaumont we had "senior day at Astroworld" where all the seniors would skip school and go to Astroworld. At night they were about to start the fireworks and there was ZERO line for this. We rode it 16 times in a row without having to get off because there was no one in line. Actually the first couple of times they did make us get off and walk around again, but then they didn't make us get off...it was so fun. The Alpine Sleigh Ride was my favorite as a kid, the as an adult Texas Cyclone. I dropped a hit of ecstasy on the loading platform there....found it though and it was packed so I'm surprised no one stepped on it and crushed it

    RCDB says that it was shipped to Joyland in Texas but in storage for the last 9 years...would have been nice to have ridden it when I was at Joyland - never visited this park :-(

    • @KarinaPopcorn
      @KarinaPopcorn 9 лет назад +2

      It was supposedly sold to Cliffs back in 2012... then appeared on plans for a new park down in Houston. At this point I don't even know if its still in storage. =(

      ***** It's a park I wish I had visited, luckily Anton made it and has some really nice footage from the park which hope fully I will get out over the coming weeks !!. As for the shuttle loop, I think Alton Towers would benefit from one of these .... or a woodie perhaps !!;-)

      ***** Too right :-)

    • @johnbrooks715

      ***** When I looked at a satellite image using Google Earth, Greezed Lightnin' still appears in it's storage location near Joyland as of September 30th, 2014. So it still could be way up the street from Joyland at this moment just rusting away in the weeds. It has come to my attention recently that there is a park in the Netherlands by the name of Speelstad Rotterdam that has plans for putting in a shuttle loop coaster before they open in 2017. I don't know where they'll be acquiring the proposed Shuttle Loop coaster from (assuming they don't have one at the moment) as they are quite a rare coaster these days and not too many parks who have one are willing to give it up as they have a high hourly capacity and offer a thrill many will not experience. So, maybe this shuttle loop will possibly be refurbished by Gerstlauer and have a new life in Europe. Here's the RCDB page for Speelstad Rotterdam park. rcdb.com/12091.htm :-)
