    I watch a lot of polymer clay videos and I've never seen one that clearly demonstrates the various tools as comprehensively as does your video. I finally understand exactly what each tool can do. Thank you very much for this brilliant video! I am now a subscriber and look forward to viewing all of your tutorials. Thanks again!

    I really liked the demonstration for each tool! Usually the tools are just shown and spoken about but very rarely demonstrated. Good job! 😊

    Thanks to you and your video, I just finished my first polymer clay creation. Your descriptions of tools and their uses were clear, precise and useful, especially the tools found around the house. No big investment needed before starting out. Also found some more of my own. The ball end of a crochet needle, phillips head screwdriver for diamond patterns, and even an old manicure kit that had some spatula-like tools in it. Great job!

    This is so wonderful Stephanie. In a sense, desperately simple. But that denies you the elegance of technique - copying is not so easy! Somehow, with the condition of Aphantasia that I have, I cannot visualise or pre-conceive of these wonderful techniques. Also, your voice is suitably relaxing and pleasant.

    • @stephanie.kilgast
      @stephanie.kilgast  7 дней назад

      I don't have aphtansia, so can't really give practical advice, however playing with tools and materials may help you see what can be done!

      Very kind of you to reply. Your work by the way is consistently delightful. I visualise using what is there in front of my eyes. At least one Disney aminator has aphantasia! He sketches and modifies as his visualisation.

    I love that although you showed all the fancy tools you show at the end that you can sculpt with super basic things as well. The rounded end of a paintbrush is good as well. While I do have most of the tools you showed now, when I started I just had a toothpick and a needle and I was quite happy.

    Some tools shown here can be expensive if you buy them from local stores. But if you have time, you can get some of them from AliExpress for a lot less money. The time is needed because it can take 7 days to 4 weeks until the packages arrive. Or you look for dental tools on flea markets which are very useful, too. You could also carve tools from wooden sticks (boxwood for example).

    • @stephanie.kilgast

      I'm currently making steps to get back into scale modeling. I definitely will do some sculpting this time and bought two types of Super Sculpey, support wire and various tools already. I want to turn a 1/12 scale succubus bust into a full figure by sculpting legs for her. It will be interesting. :-D I still had some Schmincke oil paints and bought an additional set from Winsor and Newton. Just for painting figures.
      There are companies who are specifically aiming at the modeling market so most "regular" artists don't know that they exist or what they are offering. I recently stumbled over "Abteilung 502". They have great oil paints for painting and weathering and even 10/0 Kolinsky brushes for extreme detail. Their products are next on my list.

    A simple tool I use it a #2 pencil & pencil end eraser. No the lead does not discolor my white clay and the eraser is one of my first go too tools. (it''s in my top pocket waiting to be used) Try it on a small piece of clay and see for yourself. I can do everything he does above, with just the pencil & eraser. Happy carving

      A tip for future watchers, I am a dental nurse and most dentists have old dental tools used to shape fillings etc lying in a drawer somewhere. Just ask your dentist- they may be willing to give them to you for free to clear space. Thanks for this video. Covid lockdowns have me playing with polymer clay again and this was very helpful. plastiline is meant to make casts out of it or to learn how to sculpt, so it's not a material you would use in a final sculpture.

    Hello!
    I've been watching your tutorials for a few days now, but have not yet found an answer to a very basic question: what kind of silicone 2-part putty do you use? I saw you use it for making raspberries for a berry cake. I've never made a mold before but would like to try. Do you have a favorite brand/style of silicone molds? It is rather confusing trying to figure out where to start!
    Thank you for your tutorials- very awesome to watch and learn!

    This was very useful! Also, if I were to paint onto my clay before I bake it (I use FIMO which bakes at 110 degree celsius) what paints or paint powders would be safe to put in the oven?

    • @stephanie.kilgast
      @stephanie.kilgast  8 лет назад +3

      it's always best to test. I tested all my paints, some very high quality ones will bleed, some not. Just take some white polymer clay and write letters for each paint (or find a code) then bake. Also make a test to paint on baked clay to see how it evolves in time.

    You can also use rubber stamp making or litho carving tools or leather crafting tools as well like a pear shader, beveler, etc. For some like the round ball stylus tools are used in leather as well can be used for anyone who may have these types of tools also. Youll be surprised what kind of designs or textures you can get from using some of the leather embossing or 3D leather stamps. Experiment and have fun with it.
