Nick, you are a fantastic teacher. I recently discovered your videos, and am working my way through from the beginning - now on #14. My Go has already improved dramatically! I'm very much looking forward to catching up on the last seven years of videos. No doubt, by the time I get to the end, you will be looking a little older (maybe greyer!) and my Go playing will be unrecognisable.
Your Go club seems like a fun place to be. Sometimes I feel I am actually there and find myself calling out answers to the screen :-).

Hi Nick! Just wanted to write and say how much I love the pro game reviews. Really fascinating to watch and learn from some of the top minds in the game. As always, thanks for all of this content!

Part of the meaning of white’s move at B5 is that black must respond or he will be subjected to a ko for life in the corner. The B5 stone is actually sente for white I believe. For example, White b5, black tenuki, white f1, black b3, white a4, and it is ko for the corner.

Great review, really enjoyed that. Contrary to what Nick said, I find this actually makes modern Go easier to enjoy - the robot moves are so far outside my ability to read that I just take them for granted, and enjoy learning from the analysis that he does around the more debatable sequences. You could take hours and hours over each section of the game, but THEN it'd be hard to enjoy, much less understand, for an amateur like me

Great video. I always love watching your videos. One thing I'd like to see on the game review videos, setup a link to an sgf so we can check out the rest of the game when you don't get to finish. Thanks.

Does anybody know the name of the board and stone sets they use in these videos, or where I might be able to purchase one?

In the context of this episode it's a bit funny that "shin" means "new" in Japanese

Agree with child prodigy. But they still need training because their oppents received the same training. The best player in anything is someone who is natural gifted and knows the current meta of the game, and their opponents.

I decided to turn off this video and go do something after your speech about obsession. Thank you, one of your most helpful videos!

Obsession, one factor of many I'm afraid, and not enough on its own. The secret to getting good at go may just as well be some social reward for progressing, some clear connection between improving at go and improving your future. Or pressure to succeed because of difficult consequences. I think what I question here is whether or not we can just will ourselves to be obsessed, or if we should really listen when a part of ourselves nags us that we're spending too much time on something that won't help us. Sometimes obsession just hinges on a desperate desire to escape unpleasant thoughts about our situation, which I think is where that word normally gets it's negative conotation, separate from work ethic and focus. The secret to improving... I think people who want to know are already motivated, they're just looking for resources or advice on the most efficient way to spend their time.

Nick -- don't feel pressure to analyze Shibano Toramaru -- That's Dwyrin's job buddy! You just keep plugging away at the other top pros.
Besides, Influence based play and counter-attacks off the influence are kind of old school in terms of strategy -- not exactly bleep bloop or computer style.
