Update: I say in the video that it can only go in one way, but I somehow managed to install a bulb into the back end of the socket (but not the bulb in this video). In other words, the receptacle is designed in such a way where it's two-sided, but it's not supposed to be. Plugging into the wrong side can possibly damage the prongs on the bulb, which is almost what happened to me (when changing this bulb yet again the other day). So just pay attention to the proper orientation at about 3:03 in the video and you should be fine.
Commenting to say thank you!! The Kona manual was trash at explaining and no one else had posted about it, your video saved me a TON of hassle!! I never would’ve figured it out without the visuals.
Also, I had been putting this off for weeks until someone could help me. I finally realized I was an adult and probably capable of doing it by myself. This was the first car “repair” I’ve ever done myself, so thank you also for that boost in confidence.
@@joeymurphy101 I once considered this a "big repair" as well and since then I've rebuilt an engine, replaced a transmission, and done about three hundred or more smaller jobs such as alternators, starters, radiators, brakes, suspension, etc.
I am having a bad day today but your comments are ending it on a positive note, I really appreciate it. If you have any other questions on the Kona, maybe I can help. I have several other videos on the channel or you can always comment and maybe I can help.
yes, I have replaced these at least once since this video, if not twice....actually I believe the latest one is the first LED bulb used in the car, but I certainly know what you mean with the LEDs dying off far before their touted lifespan, we've had plenty of household LED bulbs go out
Thanks for the video! I have the exact same problem 2021 Kona passenger low beam bulb is not working and your video is the only one showing how to do it!
Thanks so much. I have had the hardest time finding people to change the lightbulb. Autozone and O'Reilly both wouldn't and Hyundai was booking weeks out. Thanks to you, I did it myself!
Your fingers and alignment skills are far better than mine. I got it done but ended up opening the wheel well door for which I now have to get a new retainer clip. I found it to be a real pain. Notiing came of easy and was a pain to put in place. My Toyota RAV4 was a piece of cake compared to my Kona.
I appreciate your compliments. I guess I take for granted my small hands and wrists, and I have a pretty good amount of experience with cars. I am glad you were able to get the flap on the wheel well to work---I tried that method but found it put my hands/wrists in an awkward angle, I liked the method in this video better. We've been having problems with these lights burning out quickly. We're on our third bulb on each side now.
Cool thanks man, gonna replace mine once I get home. I’m in N.C, it rained all weekend when mine went out. I went to advanced auto and they didn’t have a part number/ bulb type for a 22 Kona. So I thought about going back to the dealer, until I YT today. Thanks. 👏👏
Hey so this is a great video but if you want to make it a little easier to get the the bulb there is actually a panel on the wheel well you just pull the tab out and it gives you easier access to the bulb
I hope I can see where both of you are talking about, because I was driving to teach a fitness class today and don't you know my idiot light came on for my light in my 2020 Kona. So the first thing I did was come to RUclips to see if I can find a video to fix it myself. I'm hoping that I can figure out what you're both saying because unfortunately my dad just passed in June and now I'm left to figure this out on my own
@@pennydelahanty4724 first I am sorry for your loss and second if you go to the front driver side or passenger side tire, squat down in front of the tire and look in the space that is made by the gap between the wheel and the fender liner. Then there should be a little panel that will either have a symbol of the head light or it will just be a panel. You should just be able to pull it out. Then you have easier access to pull the light out and put it back in
Thanks! Very helpful. Next time, it'll take 15 minutes, 1st, 3 hrs. On drivet's side very easy to confuse lo beam & hi beam. They both have round cover. Use wheel well access hole, no confusion plus more room for hands to work. Also, very easy to plug bulb in...backwards. notch on bulb MUST align with notch on socket. And FYI, owner's manual says disconnect negative battery cable..ENJOY!
I recently had to change the bulb again and did it the way some of you were describing---the opening by the wheel. That way works pretty well, but I prefer the way that I did it in this video. Going by the tire works but it required me to put my hands in an awkward angle---even more than with the method in the video.
You're welcome! You will see others mentioning the little opening in the wheel well that you can use, that works fine but I like this method better, it's easier on the wrists in my opinion.
Thank you so much for posting this video. My light on the same side on the same card just went out. Thanks to you I can replace it. I have no idea how to do this stuff so Your information is Very helpful, to me.
Thanks for your help. I couldn't get it from the bottom because Mines have 2 screws on the bottom and the one on top is different. And I didn't have it 24 either but I was luckily able to get it from the hood..Mannn It's a struggle when you have super big hands like mines But it saved me some bucks thanks 😊
Yeah wear the glove. The oil from your fingers creates an area on the bulb that refracts the light and creates a concentrated 'hot spot' on the bulb's surface that will destroy the bulb prematurely by melting the glass at that location. I've seen car lights as well as those 300 / 500 watt halogen floodlight 'tubes' (usually yard lights) fail in a few minutes, and upon inspection found a blistered and cracked surface surrounded by a big fingerprint. So yeah.... keep it oil free.
I have no earthly clue how you got that lightbulb out once you got to it I have tried and tried and tried so I guess I'll go cough up $100 for someone to do it
gently turn it counterclockwise (from the perspective of someone behind the steering wheel) and gently pull it as you are doing so. After turning about 1/8th of a turn or less, it should come out. You may need to turn it one way then the other in a very quick manner as you are pulling....shimmying or wiggling it out basically.
haha....yeah, I'm about to change an alternator on a 2002 Ford Escape here in just a bit and it requires removing a cv axle, I'm sure I'm gonna do some more cussing lol
lol there is a panel in the wheel well that makes it 1000x easier to replace. You can see the panel in the video. Also, there IS a video on youtube already. look again!

Love how LEDS are touted for 10-15 years.... Then we are always lucky to get two years out of them for 10 times the price lol.
Ty for thr video

That was a great guide to changing the light bulbs, I just finished changing both of my low beam bulbs.
Is that h7?

That is wonderful! And it wasn't bad at all, was it? That's insane that you couldn't find anyone to do it.

Can you post a picture of where this is please
@@angeljohnson28 you can see it in the above video. directly between the well for the headlight and the tire.

Omg thank you for this! Mine just went out last night and I couldn't find any information haha. This is great. 👌🏼

Thank you so much for making this video!! I need to change my low beam bulb and now I know how. And, it looks so easy! Your instructions are great.
thank you so much, good luck to you
Helpful and straightforward, thanks!
I have a 2022 Kona N-line with LED headlights. Apparently, they are a sealed unit, and cost $1100 Canadian! I hope they last for ten years?

thank you....I'm having a rough day so it's good to know someone finds me useful :) thanks
It was absolutely helpful. I'm gonna go tomorrow and get one of the bulbs and try to fix it myself. 👍

THANK YOU! NEEDED THIS
Is it necessary to disconnect the negative battery cable? The owners manual says to do so ??? Please advise.
no
Thank you sir! Exactly what I needed
Thank you for making this video!
Life saver. Thank you !
Thanks for the video. mine had a "trap door" in the wheel wells to make things a little bit easier.
Hello, does this procedure apply to Kona 2022 as well? Thank you
probably---is the lens similar looking? Just give it a try after watching this video
Thanks for showing how to remove the actual bulb.....it's different from the standard bulb.
Mines 2020 kona and the same light stopped working
You just saved me 60 bucks thanks!!
I'm very happy to hear that. I had a mobile auto repair service for several years and that was one of my main goals...to save people money
My headlight is out on the same side. I have a 2020 kona as well
Will the procedure be the same on a 2018 Kona?
Probably so, open the hood and see if it looks the same
It is the same, I just changed the bulbs on my 2018 Kona 2.0L.
Yeah the procedure is the same for 2018 to 2021 Kona’s and the bulb you need is an H7 hope this helps anyone out
Thank You Very Much , worked perfectly !!
Greatly appreciated! Thank you.
This video is helpful! Thank you

I appreciate that explanation! I learned something new.
Thank you for the video !
The round dust-cover door doesn't even exist in our 2018 Kona. There's a square thing there with nothing to remove.
Thanks bubba your dope!!!

In the wheel well there's a window. Take a screwdriver to remove screw and open window. EASY ACCESS!!! 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
Got this issue but on the other side
The dealer said they will charge me £75 to change it as the number has to come off!!! 😅
Your doing this at night

I'll let you cover that in your video
