Propagandhi "How to Clean Everything" has got to be the most influential album on Fat Wreck. The songwriting, the mixing, the art direction of the album...all iconic.

Strung out is the unsung hero of fat wreck chords in my opinion. American Paradox, Exile in Oblivion, and Suburban Teenage Wasteland are such amazing albums front to back. Wish they got the recognition they deserve.
To this day, everything they put out is excellent. Agents.. was probably the only one I don't go back and listen to, but even still had some good songs
Picking up Surivival of the Fattest comp on a whim, little did I know how my life was about to changed forever thanks to hearing SO for the first time. These dudes and Prop I can thank many times over for saving my life. Exile in Oblivion for me, despite something with that production grinding my gears. That record is Jason's best songwriting (which is saying a LOT), not a single mediocre track and my favourite song of all time (never speak again). Now we got Arpril fast approaching 🤘🤘(if anyone's seeing this 3 years later). Strung out, fuck yeah!
The bad thing was that if it kicked ass, it only did so for 30 seconds... (It takes me longer to type out Hearts Frozen Solid, Thawed Once More by the Spring of Rage, Despair, and Hopelessness than the song lasts, and I want more every time).
So glad to see Fat Mike consider "So long and thanks for all the shoes" their best album... I heartily agree, there's not a single weak song in that album. A true classic.
What fat wreck chords did back in the 90s(and much into the early 2000s) was insane for an independent label. They had so much talent and it mostly went unnoticed. I always felt very fortunate to stumble on the "fat music for fat people" comp by chance as a kid, the guy who sold it to me ripped me off but it was worth it! And having that music as the soundtrack to your skating and snowboarding sessions, it was perfect!
I don't care how it's done, Tony's demos and other unreleased tracks NEED to be released. Having Yotam sing those demos and having Rory, Dave, and Matt record the music would be incredibly amazing
Oh yeah and I'd love to put Potemkin City limits but unfortunately, except for me thinking it's not known enough, it kinda symbolises tensions between the band and Mike.
@Dan Evertt 100 percent agreed. After the bass player left, they kind of strayed way too far into hardcore and kind of lost the sound that I liked. To each their own, though.

Yes!!! Hi-Standard are amazing!! I’ve loved them since finding that record in a small record store back then. I’d love to see them play one day but I highly doubt that will happen now ☹️
not to flex but I was fortunate enough to see Fat 25 year anniversary show in Tokyo and Hi-Standard were not only the most supported but the better sounding band that day. They are tight live.
Grabbed it at Wal-Mart for $8 when I was in middle school. Saw it had NOFX, Rancid, Green Day, thought, "this looks cool, don't know these other bands but whatever, I like short songs." Put me onto so many good bands: Aerobitch, Poison Idea,AFI, Adrenalin O.D., list goes on. I'd replay the ones I really liked over and over and just obsess over that CD. Come to think of it, there were a lot of classic hardcore bands on there that, as far as I know, never put anything out on Fat.

Glad to see Five Lessons Learned by Swingin Utters in there, I thought that was a real masterwork, the way the whole album hung together in a cohesive way was a rare and great thing.

I was actually stoked to see him put Feel Good Record of the Year as the NUFAN record...that record is so fucking good and he’s right; Tony Sly was an incredible songwriter. Also it was nice to hear him confirm that Bad Cop Bad Cop really is as dope as I thought they were

Trashed, not Thrashed, is a classic album. I Think My Older Brother Used To Listen To Lagwagon is pretty awful, but I wonder how much Jesse leaving after was already affecting it.

Cokie You’re Welcome is one of the most emotionally heavy albums Ive ever listened to - it’s absolutely brilliant. Watching you perform it as Cokie is really hard and the audience doesn’t know what to feel so it just makes the experience not only genius but wicked sad. Thanks for ripping yourself open and bearing it all for us!
Seriously. They had been in a sappy slump for a while and that record was a rebirth for them. It was their Process of Belief or whatever. Too bad it was the last one.
During a crazy random series of events I managed to see Hi Standard open for Green Day in Japan in 1995 at the Harumi Futo Center. They CRUSHED it. (almost literally...the crowd was in these weird farm like holding pens on the open floor and alot of us banded together to try and prevent the crowd from crushing people against the rail system). Awesome list from an amazing label. LOTs of new albums for me to purchase!!!!

that was nice of him to shout out Less Than Jake. I bought their See The Light album from Fat Wreck and always saw that LP as having the essence of the Fat Wreck sound throughout it.
Survival of the fatest and physical fatness opened the door to so many other bands for me! Being in Australia it was hard back then to get hold of great punk records! We had some great bands here like the hard-ons,frenzal rhomb,body jar, the meanies,root beer and others but before the internet it was hard to track down great albums
Thanks AP for no censorship and Fat Mike for his honesty and well thought out picks and the reasons why . I was surprised that some picks were my Favs too like HI-STANDARD / FRENZAL RHOMB / D4. Also the great comps ! (they were a great way to listen a lot of good bnads) I agree with Mike Mad Caddies are way underated especially as of late !
Mad Caddies are one of the most consistent bands still going and Dillinger Four is a lot of fun. Of course Mike didn't mention it since it wasn't released by FAT, but Midwestern Songs of the Americas is, in my opinion, one of the best records of the late-90's in general.

Man this brought back memories. This is basically all my teens right here. Straight classics. That time was something in that world you just had to be around for. Can't explain the feel.
Thank goodness 'The Unraveling' made the cut. What a genuinely fantastic record from start to finish. So goddamn formative to my music taste as a 12-13 year old kid.
Tony Sly was one of the best songwriters to ever bless this earth. Toast to Tony Sly!!! I was really late to the party, but the first song I heard from No Use For A Name was "Night of the Living Living". I was listening to a Fat Wreck pandora playlist back in 2012. Yeah, I know, I had NUFAN right in my face for 15 years by that point, but it WAS "The Feel Good Record of the Year" that made me a No Use For A Name AND a Tony Sly fan.
They also hadn't released a particularly good record in a while. It was a huge return to form for them. Moving way from the sappy emo inspired stuff they were mired in for a few albums there was a good idea. They sounded so vital and powerful on Feel Good. It's too bad we didn't get to see how they would evolve from there.
I’ve never seen them open for a band , be on $5 compilations, or have a big promotion for their records. If it wasn’t for this video, I would have never heard of them. I’m sure most people don’t go out of their way to discover bands like them. They’re amazing though and I’m not even half way done to the album.
That's definitely one of my favorite Fat albums, if not my favorite. $Wingin' Utters A Juvenile Product of The Working Class and Five Lessons Learned are definitely in my top favorite releases by Fat.
Anyone who doesn’t know Frenzal Rhomb should check them out right now. The humour is very Australian and takes a couple listens to get into, but damn it’s good

The “California dreaming” cover by Hi Standard and “Vincent” by NOFX are songs I played so many times from Survival of the Fittest. I still do from time to time still.
Some of my favorite fat releases were by none more black, schevchucks vocals always blew me away. Always a huge kid dynamite fan, so these followed up kid dynamites albums quite well for me
5:50 When Derrick left in ‘96, Caper wanted to split because he didn’t want to play with another drummer. Mike convinced them to stay together and get a new drummer.
Yeah, that makes sense, especially after Derrick died and they put out Resolve. Their first 3 are my favorites, I love Lagwagon and everything they've put out, every one of there records is solid in my opinion. 2005 and onward has been a very different Lagwagon, understandably. Even Railer, which sounds a hell of a lot like their early 90's records, somehow still has a similar melancholy to Hang. They've been through a lot and I'm glad they're still working together. Cool fucking band, cool fucking people.
The Dickies "All This and Puppet Stew" glaring omission for me. Screeching Weasel and MXPX also. I think he coulda skipped the NOFX, Me First, and Cokie entries in humility, and just mentioned in the beginning that he was doing that to make room for extra bands,...
When I was first getting into LOC and that scene as a teenager, I found a channel with acoustic LOC covers and an acoustic cover of Shimmy Shimmy Ya by OBD. I was looking up Closet Fiends on YT. That was Sam's channel. It used to be call Stoney McDumbass. RIP.

Holy shit, new album incoming soon! I knew one was coming eventually but to hear Mike say that he's been working on this one for two years is crazy. The Frank Turner split album is really good but I can't fucking wait for another full Nofx album.
Twisted By Design is, in many ways, a more impressive album (definitely more popular, too) but Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues is the one closest to my heart. I remember listening to that on a hand-me-down pirated cassette tape when I was 14 and being obsessed with the song "Solitaire". Great video, listening to Closet Fiends right now... visceral
Puppet Stew- Dickies. Punk legends remind everyone that no matter how long it's been, they still bring their A game every time. Maybe one day they'll do a followup.

Today's empire tomorrow's ashes is to me the best album on fat. Maybe my favorite album ever. They took it to a whole new level on that one.

Yes!!! Hi-Standard are amazing!! I’ve loved them since finding that record in a small record store back then. I’d love to see them play one day but I highly doubt that will happen now ☹️
not to flex but I was fortunate enough to see Fat 25 year anniversary show in Tokyo and Hi-Standard were not only the most supported but the better sounding band that day. They are tight live.
I drum along with their discography more than any other band. I love that band, and it’s the most fun to drum to.
Short Music for Short People is so unique and most of the 101 songs were great.

Grabbed it at Wal-Mart for $8 when I was in middle school. Saw it had NOFX, Rancid, Green Day, thought, "this looks cool, don't know these other bands but whatever, I like short songs." Put me onto so many good bands: Aerobitch, Poison Idea,AFI, Adrenalin O.D., list goes on. I'd replay the ones I really liked over and over and just obsess over that CD.
Come to think of it, there were a lot of classic hardcore bands on there that, as far as I know, never put anything out on Fat.
Borders and boundries is on of my all time favorites. And probably one of the most listened to.

Glad to see Five Lessons Learned by Swingin Utters in there, I thought that was a real masterwork, the way the whole album hung together in a cohesive way was a rare and great thing.

Trashed, not Thrashed, is a classic album. I Think My Older Brother Used To Listen To Lagwagon is pretty awful, but I wonder how much Jesse leaving after was already affecting it.

Fat was a huge part of my upbringing. Seen most of these bands from '92 to up to now. Moved to S.F. for my 20s largely because of my love for Fat and Bay Area bands. So many fun times... Thank you Mike!!!
Tilt's Til' It Kills is one of my absolute favorite albums. I'm still in love with that band to this day.
It's an amazing record. So grateful I managed to catch them live once after they reunited to record and tour for Viewers Like You.

Cokie You’re Welcome is one of the most emotionally heavy albums Ive ever listened to - it’s absolutely brilliant. Watching you perform it as Cokie is really hard and the audience doesn’t know what to feel so it just makes the experience not only genius but wicked sad. Thanks for ripping yourself open and bearing it all for us!
I’d love to hear the nufan demos recorded. The feel good record was so good, their best, and made me very excited for what was next.
Seriously. They had been in a sappy slump for a while and that record was a rebirth for them. It was their Process of Belief or whatever. Too bad it was the last one.
During a crazy random series of events I managed to see Hi Standard open for Green Day in Japan in 1995 at the Harumi Futo Center. They CRUSHED it. (almost literally...the crowd was in these weird farm like holding pens on the open floor and alot of us banded together to try and prevent the crowd from crushing people against the rail system). Awesome list from an amazing label. LOTs of new albums for me to purchase!!!!

that was nice of him to shout out Less Than Jake. I bought their See The Light album from Fat Wreck and always saw that LP as having the essence of the Fat Wreck sound throughout it.
Survival of the fatest and physical fatness opened the door to so many other bands for me! Being in Australia it was hard back then to get hold of great punk records! We had some great bands here like the hard-ons,frenzal rhomb,body jar, the meanies,root beer and others but before the internet it was hard to track down great albums

Also the great comps ! (they were a great way to listen a lot of good bnads) I agree with Mike Mad Caddies are way underated especially as of late !
Mad Caddies are one of the most consistent bands still going and Dillinger Four is a lot of fun. Of course Mike didn't mention it since it wasn't released by FAT, but Midwestern Songs of the Americas is, in my opinion, one of the best records of the late-90's in general.

Thank goodness 'The Unraveling' made the cut. What a genuinely fantastic record from start to finish. So goddamn formative to my music taste as a 12-13 year old kid.

Tony Sly was one of the best songwriters to ever bless this earth. Toast to Tony Sly!!! I was really late to the party, but the first song I heard from No Use For A Name was "Night of the Living Living". I was listening to a Fat Wreck pandora playlist back in 2012. Yeah, I know, I had NUFAN right in my face for 15 years by that point, but it WAS "The Feel Good Record of the Year" that made me a No Use For A Name AND a Tony Sly fan.
They also hadn't released a particularly good record in a while. It was a huge return to form for them. Moving way from the sappy emo inspired stuff they were mired in for a few albums there was a good idea. They sounded so vital and powerful on Feel Good. It's too bad we didn't get to see how they would evolve from there.

I’ve never seen them open for a band , be on $5 compilations, or have a big promotion for their records. If it wasn’t for this video, I would have never heard of them. I’m sure most people don’t go out of their way to discover bands like them. They’re amazing though and I’m not even half way done to the album.
Growing up and Making the Road are amazing punk records. Hi-Standard even has some really good newer stuff

That's definitely one of my favorite Fat albums, if not my favorite. $Wingin' Utters A Juvenile Product of The Working Class and Five Lessons Learned are definitely in my top favorite releases by Fat.

Some of my favorite fat releases were by none more black, schevchucks vocals always blew me away. Always a huge kid dynamite fan, so these followed up kid dynamites albums quite well for me

5:50 When Derrick left in ‘96, Caper wanted to split because he didn’t want to play with another drummer. Mike convinced them to stay together and get a new drummer.
Yeah, that makes sense, especially after Derrick died and they put out Resolve. Their first 3 are my favorites, I love Lagwagon and everything they've put out, every one of there records is solid in my opinion. 2005 and onward has been a very different Lagwagon, understandably. Even Railer, which sounds a hell of a lot like their early 90's records, somehow still has a similar melancholy to Hang. They've been through a lot and I'm glad they're still working together. Cool fucking band, cool fucking people.
Survival was what got me into punk. My brother in law gave me a copy and I was hooked for life.

Twisted By Design is one of my favourite albums of all time. Genius all the way through.
Twisted By Design is, in many ways, a more impressive album (definitely more popular, too) but Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues is the one closest to my heart. I remember listening to that on a hand-me-down pirated cassette tape when I was 14 and being obsessed with the song "Solitaire".
