Goofy CA pop punk
European also.
NOFX has brought me happiness throughout the years just having their music there to listen to.
Fat Mike is a chicken hawk, but worse than that a sell out
Same here. I’m sad he’s so disappointing these days.
Remember when Mike was golfing on private golf courses talking about what was wrong with the Punk Scene. What a time to be alive.
That’s correct Nofx was pretentious pop punk band that shit on other pop punk bands, while on the 18th hole.
@@ts1265 they sound cool even in that description
@@TheJoyrunners
It sounds like sarcasm to me . Nofx sarcastic ? Who knew .
Trump style anti establishment

So many great songs. So many years of really good lyrics and messages. I think he's forgotten he's said all he needs to in the music.
NOFX has brought me happiness throughout my life. I grew up around the Bay Area and I am grateful for NOFX, and deeply saddened at their departure. I am happy, but I am truly a happier human being because of Fat Mike’s music and this band. Just glad I am here for it. Best band ever. Check the thumbnail 😮
Long time NOFX fan, I’ve often noticed contradictions in fat mikes lyrics, between what he stands for and what he does. Thanks for calling him out in the interview.
I am having knee surgery in july and hope to be able to walk and see the show in brockton mass.. 20 years in the United States, navy born and raised are Republican s*** in Florida.
Mike is smart AF and I wish him and all the band go forth and conquer! Thanks for the greatest tunes!
Man I really like what Mike is saying here
Yeah what the world needs is another queer tiktoker…😅
Mike has finally grown up.
Mike's real goal is to star in "Mrs Doubtfire the return"
HELLLLL-OOOOOOHHHH!
I've seen them live. Fat Mike is NOT worried about making people "stoked".
Thanks for all the great tunes. This guy's brain is swiss cheese.
I was at their last show in Montreal ''final tour'' and he was making ppl stoked
@@FrancisDGM I confirm. Hence why I'm also going to LA for their last shows.
Woke mike
fuckin A....
So?
Fair play to him, he's 56 years old, left quite a legacy in punk, even their last album was a good return to form. It's unreasonable to expect someone to do the same thing for 40+ years and not move on at some point.
Rolling Stones been doing it longer. Mike is just being a bitch, and wont quit drugs and alcohol.
First ditch effort was their best album in years IMHO ...but yeah single album was great too. NOFX really never made any bad albums from ribbed 1990 to the present ......
Ok. Can I at least request he not bring up his “kinky sex in the van”. Did I hear that right? Wtf is he talking about private weird shit like that? Has he finally lost his f-ing mind?
I don’t know, man. It’s not like he hasn’t had artistic freedom. He had Me First, he had Fat Wreck. Seems to me like he’s walking away from a good thing. I really don’t get it. But to be honest, I don’t think any of us have ever really understood Mike.
Tell that to Greg Graffin.
His whole outlook seems really biased. No offense or anything... maybe the dude needs to try staying in a really small southern town or something. Ya know... get out of the city. That attitude he's talking about?... that is NOT how it is when you don't live literally shoulder to shoulder and ass to feet in some city. I found that out REAL fuckin quick. Never hated on my little town ever again.
Cities are now total cess pools
I remember a long time ago at a NOFX show when I yelled up at him "Fat Mike, you rule!" Fat Mike looked over and said, "Really?" Such an amazing band. Enjoy retirement 🤘🤘🍻
Do whatever you want, and don't give a f&ck what other people think. -Punk Rock
Thats a solid definition. But also makes me realize my grandpa was punk rock as hell and he didn't even know it.
Dont get me wrong i love Nofx, but ted talks? wtf bro lol your message its already in your music i think, right? at the end of the day, do whatever the fuck u want, who cares
So he wants to instead talk about his inner peace via being pegged? Nofx is a talented band, " The Decline" is a masterpiece , and Mike has the right to quit and share his piece, but i refuse to take him seriously on anything other than being a drunk 🤡. Cheers 🥂
17 minutes, one take, lyrics and “feel” like no other. Great album!
Gee i'll sure miss his neoliberal establishment left songs of angst about how orange man bad and you need to get the jab. Just a middle aged limousine liberal with blue hair and high cholesterol.
Awwww Fat Mike. I listen to NOFX almost everyday on my way to and from work. Your music has given me so much joy. Sorry to hear that it's over, but thank you for the rad tunes man! ❤
This honestly reads like a dude with substance issues and possibly a midlife crisis.
mikes always been a sell out, not surprised.
Good job just letting Mike talk. He has lots of awkward pauses and the way you let him finish his thoughts…great interviewer and great interview with a living legend
Listen to his life advice and do the opposite
Man... this is some bs. The time when nofx (or better fat mike) were starting more and more with so called "activism", they got worse and worse.
Agreed
Get woke go broke
Mike proves that hard work pays off. He has been working hard his whole life and now he just wants to retire and do stuff he likes. That's the goal.
Yeah he worked really hard when his dad loaned him the money to start Fat Wreck Chords and then Fat Mike repayed him by abandoning the man on his deathbed and writing a song glorifying it. Nice choice of role model, bruh.
@@ManBearCowGM I don't know him personally, so I'm not familiar with the details of the story. I do know that he was interviewed about it and said, "I asked my dad to cosign a bank loan for $20,000. … He may not have had faith in me, but he did loan me the money. And when The Longest Line recouped, and I offered to pay the loan in full, he told me not to worry about it. It’s funny, if I had been broke I’m sure he would’ve held the debt over my head forever, but because I was actually making money it was no big deal." My role model is Ben Carson. He's the reason I became a doctor. In any field, if you work hard, you will reap the benefits. That's why mike became a millionaire.
@@ManBearCowGMYou’re also talking about the same guy that would routinely leave a child alone in front of a television while he went out with his buddies. What exactly does Mike owe a neglectful, absent father?
@@ManBearCowGMThe comment was about hard work. Not role models.
TED talks are the opposite of joy and happiness
For you
Fat Mike has given us soo much happiness. I was just listening to his songs today. I’m a bit skeptical about his theories on sexual happiness providing more than his music but he’s never done anything but be himself so…
You can see in Mike's eyes that he really means what he's saying. And I can relate. I myself am returning to my younger kinda mindset. Because it gets old trying/or becoming successful. Burnt myself out for a company that doesn't give a shit about me in the end. Wasted years of my youth for nothing. So I'm gonna play a different game and live each day at a time very simply and enjoy what I want to do because tomorrow I maybe gone. Work to live, not live to work
Same
I feel like he's doing what he usually does...trolling. lol
@@ABandCalledStoned He possibly could be haha
He’s pandering to the trend..
Timeless music. NOFX will live on forever. I just hope the rest of the band was ready to take on a new path of hapiness.
If NOISE is timeless ......have some ADULT TUNES....the rest is for edgy kids
They’re not.
I’ve seen both Eric Melvin and Smelly talk about it and they are crushed and don’t want it to end.
It sucks it seems like this is all Mike.
Stand up comedy is something he seems like he wanted to do instead of music if you seen his shows. They go off for 5 minutes in between songs. Good for Mike.
I would never go to his shows. Just a bunch of sleepy joe supporters. Great music, but childish lyrics, and this weird man’s ego.
That’s not how life works in Europe lol
Being a punk Rocker at 60 isn’t a good look
I don't think anybody ever thought it was a good look at 20 either. I think that was part of the point.
i love and hate fat mike. the dude makes so much sense on some stuff then is waaaaay out in left field on others.
I’ll miss NOFX. oh yeah, don’t forget to continue to yell at people for not wearing a face diaper while you’re not wearing one.
Nothing makes me happier than music and NOFX is responsible for so much of it. I have tons of memories tied to this band and their songs. So many shows and experiences. My life is better because of this band. I don't think there is a more powerful catalyst than music for bringing others happiness, but I wish you the best in your new endeavors, Fat Mike. I'm not gonna cry that it's over, I'll smile because it happened. Cheers from San Diego. 🍻
Completely agree with your sentiments I was given in89 NOFX and bad religion and fell in love instantly NOFX sounded like rkl to me and years later I found out they were label mate's and freinds I hope they come out to Australia one more time but I don't think they are but as U said have many great memories peace and love lloydy
Totally agree. Started my band and play bass mainly because of him and nofx
I am in agreement with this I have had so many great night's, drunk and have my scares and my tattoo. Great band.
Fat Mike, you brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people in Orlando yesterday!! Regarding Codefendants, I liked their live show better than the album. A lot of energy that needs to be translated to the album better. I see plenty of potential in the act!
I agree. I drove from Michigan to the Orlando show!!! Wouldnt have missed it for the world! Great show!
I’m uploading 14 NOFX guitar covers later this day, in their honor. In like 5 hours 😁🎸🔥
All thenguys talking trash about him think Ted Nugent is a political genius.

You brought me happiness for most of my life. I will be listening to NoFx when I am locked up in a retirement home.
Just what the world needs another blue haired tik tocker.
I agree with some of what Mike said, particularly determining what your own version of success looks like. We, as Americans, have way too much of a tendency to gauge success only in financial terms. Different people have different ambitions; you cannot put a price on completing a marathon, writing a song, etc.
However, avoiding hard work and aiming for a life where you just lounge around all day is a sure fire way to be unhappy. I would rather set goals, set plans in place to accomplish them, own my failures and continue to improve. I’ll take long-term fulfillment over short-term happiness any day of the week. This is part of the reason I stopped listening to NOFX. It seems to me like their message was pretty much do drugs, have fun, and live for yourself because at the end of the day none of this really matters anyway. Great advice for the youth, Mike! Those will for sure be some Ted talks I’ll be sure to skip.
The f@ck, “we as Americans”? Every modern society factors in financial worth as being successful. I don’t care how “successful” you try to say you are, but if you’re stuck working 2 jobs struggling to provide for you family, you aren’t successful. You are spending more time away and providing the least. Success is spending time and providing. That’s what financial success gives you. Don’t be dense about it.
Good comment. I agree
Yeah. I'm an American now permanently living in Europe/Spain. People here are generally happier and more laid back here (for a plethora of reason), but Mike's example was dead-on.
F@CK!! I guess the old saying is true... Never meet your heroes, they'll always disappoint you.
It's super sad to hear that no effects is going to break up especially I've been listening to him almost all my life. I'm 42 so almost literally. Mike's been doing music along time the band has been doing music a long time and he can't really hate on them for maybe wanting to do something different for a while

Mike is one of the best punk songwriters of the past 3 decades. I'm a bit sad he wants to quit doing that to become a tony robbins doing stand-up. Feels like Michael Jordan quitting basketball to play baseball all over again. 😔

Fat Mike turned into a liberal California house cat
Well, Mike I'll tell ya one thing: I was at the Punk Rock Museum a couple weekends ago, I was already in Vegas for an unrelated reason. Walking through there and seeing everything, all this was stuff that was connected to some very important times in my life made me so fucking happy I got a little emotional. You put events in motion to where I got to play one of your old basses and one of Fletcher's old guitars. Me and one of your guys flipped around Jason's old bass amp to see which ones they were. I got to see old show flyers from Gillman St. I came backdown stairs and you were chilling at the table closest to the stairway having lunch, aside from being too chicken shit to say hi, its a rule of mine you don't hassle a guy while he's having fucking lunch.
It's a good rule
There is a punk rock museum? Wow that’s lame
@@internetperson9121 your lame …

i thiught he liked offending people
If he wanted to make people happy, he would start writing good music again, let Ryan Greene produce the next albums, and let Hefe have more say in the writing process like in "the longest line", "White Trash", etc.
Not that hard.
Ted Talks?
I really admire this guy and what he says. Reminds me of a good friend who passed away. Stay up Mike
NOFX should have broken up in the 00s.
nahhhh....NOFX doesnt just give me joy for one night.... gives me joy everyday, a part of my life.
Wait. So you're quitting a band to be in another band? What happened to teaching people how to fish?
nofx music has never brought me anything other than joy!
(real reason, fat mike's too sober for nofx these days)
Nofx was a big part of my life cannot wait to see in June.
NOFX has always been a staple band in my life growing up, listening to them since late 80's as well as of course seeing them LIVE. They were the core to my music existence in the 80's, 90's punk scene and beyond. Because of this band, I learned to play guitar many, many years ago in my early teens and ultimately learned how to play punk because of them. Sure, you had/have amazing bands of the same era, Ramones, Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Descendents, Misfits, Dead Kennedys, The Vandals, No Use for a Name...etc..just to name a small few of the many greats, some who have broken up and some who are still around, but there's just something about NOFX...They will always and forever be my favorite punk band of all time. Thanks Fat Mike, El Hefe, Melvin and Smelly for the decades of immeasurable artistry in punk rawk music. Your tunes have been with me pretty much my whole life, traveling through ups and downs and all-arounds, and I can't thank you all enough for shaping me into who I am today. Peace.
It's sad, but it's all good. Life changes, people need to switch things up and do new things. And also sometimes great things can get old later in life. Nothing lasts forever. But that's part of what makes it all so great. Every song has an ending. And then you start again new.
Tik Toks are causing depression, not happiness.
VERY true. Although I think he said "Ted Talks".
@@Rompler_Rocco lol I think you’re right 😂

Hopefully it's because they realized they suck
I can say with great assurance that if I had wealth … to buy a home, to travel, to record my music, to set my kids up, .. I would be a very happy man. When people say money doesn’t bring happiness firstly it’s absurd … second it’s usually people who don’t have to worry a whole lot about their financial situation.
Fukin oath totally agree, dont see him giving his cash etc away
Money isn't for buying happiness, it's for buying the freedom to pursue it.
@@devilsoffspring5519 sure just so long as i have more than i’ll ever need
Not having money brings unhappiness though. Living paycheck to paycheck. One bad day away from being on the street. Have that sword above your head all the time. No good for your mental space
Money without people to spend it on and to take care of will not buy you the happiness you get from genuine interactions you have with people you care about and that care about you. As men, money does buy a form of happiness. It allows us to take care of our loved ones, and we get the nod of approval from society that we are real men. Rich people are some of the most miserable motherfuckers out there. They have all the money but no one to care for.
Mike makes SO MUCH SENSE!!!! He'd be a great stand up comic, or be a really good ted talk guest.
Fat Mike doing stand-up will either be the worst thing ever, or the best thing ever.
Thanks Mike, your nofx music has helped me to be happy.
$75 a night, touring and nobody liked us for 8 years......man I think my band was just the opener for bands like that for the most part. 😂😂😂😂😂

Money doesn’t buy you happiness. However for the small cost of 1,915.00 you can get the “bro” package and see nofx in Australia.

I was at that show in Austin... It was fucking awesome
NOFX has been my favorite band since I first heard White Trash in 1993-94. I was just starting high school, hanging out with some friends and my friend Aric and he gave me a mohawk while we listened to the album. NOFX was my escape (well drugs too lol) from my stepdad who I'd have to take beatings from so he wouldn't beat up my mom and younger siblings. Escape from being poor and never having anything cause your stepdad was also a crackhead and violent drunk. Who'd make me and my younger brother run and grab him drugs when we were as young as 10 and 11. And so many other shitty things. But NOFX helped me through a lot of it. I honestly think I'd be dead today without all the great music I discovered as a kid.
Great explanation. I busted my ass an gained financial freedom creating my dream business. One thing I noticed was that I had no more excuses. Here I was sitting in a home I always dreamed of, had cars I always dreamed of, but I was lonely and depressed. Previously, I could blame it all on other things and life circumstances. Once there's nothing left to blame you have to face yourself and fix you.
Hey, if you set out to make plenty of dough and you actually did it, you still kick ass. As for the loneliness part, remember that most of normal everyday conversation is basically bitching about money and not having enough of it, so yeah you're going to be a bit lonely if making money is something you DON'T suck at. Just a fluke of human nature.
Definitely a pendulum. We swing on one huge arc chasing to get to the financial finish line - most of us don’t hit it - and if you do, you start swinging the other way to one day hit the peak of our deep selves and exactly what you say - fixing ourselves.
Doesn't make any sense, fatty is leaving NOFX because he doesn't want to be a workaholic anymore, but he will be playing in Codefendants. And honestly Nofx is lightyears better than Codefendants any day.
Hoping the other NOFX members can continue on doing something as well. I know Mike is pretty set career wise and financially. Not so sure about the other 3.

But when I find a new nofx song I am happy. 😢
No one in America is shunned for what Fat Mike is referring to as a "wasted life". He seems to live in 2 worlds here. In one he's clearly living how he wants and is literally famous for it and in the other he thinks people are considered outcasts for living that way. He also seems to be conflating financial independence/freedom with happiness in a way that makes it seem like that's the only way to be happy.. that's not the case for most of us. Most of us just want to see positive fruits for our labor. There is so much to do an experience out there and I'm sorry to say this but, very little of it is free. That's just the world we live in. If our dollar could stretch further, we would concentrate more time on doing things that make us happier rather than just trying to cover the basic needs.
Man I was just getting into NOFX the past few months. It sucks if they really are splitting up
Hedonism isn’t happiness…people need to improve not just submit to their base “lizard brain” desires of just “doing you”. That thinking leads you to a tent on the sidewalk.
