    1) Voice-over history lesson, live animal vs live animal, and mock demonstrative studio fight in the opening credits.
    2) Three-sectional staff
    3) THREE no bs cool ass (count 'em) boss fights before the Master fight
    4) Wicked hand to hand kung-fu choreography
    IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS. This is a SUPER CLASSIC OLD SCHOOL KUNG FU FLICK! There was nothing in this flick to "skip"....non-stop joy...One of my favorites of all time!

    Wilson Tong Did an awesome acting job here and deserves a mention of his own. If you've watched this movie at least four times over the years, as I have, you'll come to the same conclusion. Chen Kuan Tai made this masterpiece and his charisma and kung fu are fascinating. However, Wilson Tong is the pillar of this movie, the one who makes this movie as good as it is and you won't realize that the first time you watch it. His acting of his character is so spontaneous and deep, I don't see the difference between him as an actor and the character he plays while for all the others, including Chen Kuan Tai they're a bit theatrical troop representation. But Wilson is amazingly balanced in his acting. His dispatching by CKT is a bit rough and again that makes the movie more gut wrenching. He really deserves praise for his performance.

    • @goognamgoognw6637
      @goognamgoognw6637 2 года назад +1

      @@42kellys Great question, I haven't followed contemporary kung fu movies. Donnie Yen is getting a bit old, i think. His pride is a bit over the top for me. I am 100% vintage kf hardcore fan, and it's not just the action that draws me but it's raw, filmed in nature i love that and the characters are very much transfering a lot of real ancient chinese culture to the screen the way today's movies no longer do. The hopes and struggle are simple and feel humane and the vilains are so well acted. It just cannot be beat.

    • @42kellys
      @42kellys 2 года назад +1

      @@goognamgoognw6637 I am also more keen on the older ones however, I have found that I need to like the hero otherwise the story loses its appeal, fight scenes alone do not do the trick for me. This is what happened here. I have been watching it for a while and I noticed I am not involved not too interested so I turned it off. I watched the 1996 Iron monkey 2 with Donnie Yen and another guy with some other likeable characters so I liked that one.
      I cannot say in which way the newer ones, which are not always too new fail to deliver on the cultural aspect I seemed not to notice it here in this one either. I suppose that's why I like Jackie Chan films because I love him and I love his smiling face and the way he is fooling around at the same time he delivers on the martial art part too. I love his old films more than the new ones I am never bored with his lots of fights and am happy not to have guns in them.
      As for the very acclaimed newest ones like Crouching tiger I simply do not like them because they do not move me but leave me with an empty feeling.

      I would have to agree with you and im a crazy martial arts afficionado and have seen some really really good martial arts that were from small Chinese studios back in the late 70s not just golden harvest or shaw brothers even though in new Yorks Chinatown they had theaters where one showed only golden harvest and one showed only shaw brothers and shaw brothers theater never played any bruce lee movies but then there were two other theaters and they played kung fu movies from different areas of China and they expressed kung fu differently but the golden harvest flick called " warriors two is another classic featuring wing chun you will also see monkey fist and praying mantis

    Description lays out the high points of the movie. Fabulous cast with innovative story line. Some info to add: Iron Monkey starts off as a carefree roustabout with no direction. Once entering Shaolin temple he changes that. The Abbot sends him to the east wing of the temple to learn monkey fist from the bitter monk. 52 minute mark he leaves the temple to seek his revenge and the fighting really kicks in along with "Hu Yin (Wilson Tong) going in to action. Working his way up he fights senior Shaolin students "Fong Kong" (Chi Kuan Chun), (Sideburns Lee Keung) & (Chi Wai Lau) as they have come to stop him helping the Ching. 2 women tip the scales. Iron Monkey separates Lord General's (Kam Kong) top 3 fighters for his duels. He runs in to interference to reach his ultimate destination to get that revenge for his family (description). NOTE: More Chen Kuan Tai action available from Wu Tang Collection with Iron Monkey Strikes Back.
