Dont build a base llike the one he built in the video, youll get raided easily. Find a lone wooden garage, barn, or something else with one enterance, close it off and youre good
Thats why I don't build a base. People will literally spend hours trying to get in once they find your base. Its insane. I usually bury a crate or two near coast and go hit it as needed. Especially if I die. Definitely hit it once every couple of days or it'll despawn
Trust been plying for a while and it just seems that unless you’ve got a mic and atleast one other person to play with, it is impossible without literally dedicating your life to one server

We sit in bed and he plays on his big tv on the ps4 and i play on my smaller big tv next to him on the xbox. I wish we were able to play together.

Too much stuff is needed for base building in this game, most people wont even bother. They claim to have made this game for fans of the mod, but in the mod all you needed was an axe and you could go off into the woods and craft a crafting bench from surrounding trees and away you go. Not saying it should be that simple but just gathering the nails alone for this could take you all day, and that's if you don't get killed and get lost on your way back to the base. Either they need to drastically increase the spawn rate of all the supplies needed per town or this is just for groups who have access to a vehicle. As a solo your better off just roaming around instead. :/

Yeah the standalone game is a lot more indepth (lets call it that) when it comes to being able to do some of the things which you could do so easily in the mod (which I remember so fondly) Nails are a pain to find yeah, but again it depends on the areas you are looting. Garages and industrial zones you'll find a lot of them for example. I mean if I was a solo player aiming to get myself a base up and running I'd be making use of stashes for sure close by ish to where I was working on the base. Keep it hidden using a shovel and keep putting items you've been looting in there. The chances of you getting all the stuff you need in one life without getting killed and losing it all is pretty low which is why stashing is super important for a solo player i think.

Thanks so much for the awesome feedback! Yes there are other options for building. One of the big ones a lot tend to use is called the watch tower. Fairly similar in construction but I should make a video on it you are right ;)
My 2 cents worth. Unless you are part of a team, faction, whatever, don't bother with a base. On just about every server you will find a dominant faction/s. They are geared up and no matter how well you think you have built your base a few well placed grenades will breach it. So if you play solo it's best to build crates and hide them in thick vegetation. A smaller target is harder to find so spread your loot out that way when you respawn you will have a ready stash to 'gear up'. Oh, and learn to hunt, fish and cook, because growing vegetables has become so much harder.
Agree with everything you say here fo3survivor, I’ve only been playing for about 3 months but I build bases all the time simply because I enjoy it hehe. My main base has 5 layers of walls to get to my good stuff (I class m4’s as good stuff, not got c4, code locks etc yet :/ ) I was raided once when I only had 2 walls but they would’ve been gutted with the loot gained! Nobody has raided since adding extra walls as you can see them all & prob looks like too much effort
dayz mod is still better, and faster. I could play dayz epoch solo and within 2 hours i will have a safe. Traders make it very easy. I could have a wooden base built in 24 hours max probably, or just buy a few safes hide em literally Anywhere, in a tree in a building. 1 of My choices, in a very remote area and I will have a heli or multiple. Not to mention you can build a gyrocopter. I would have a safe at the coast with : Tool boxes scrap engines and heli rotors. You can buy vehicles which is also extremely nice. Buy a truck, go loot airfield and w \ e then sell. Not to mention the guns are alot better. For example DMR. ( and if you die you lose a relatively small ''investment'', and again its alot faster to recover. For the same amount of progress, standalone will take 10x longer. And tbh the graphics are basically equal. And actually standalone is wayyyy more buggy \ laggy at least that's my experience. Unless you have literally no life or work idk why you'd play standalone. At least the safes cant be taken, and all you gotta do is write down the code \ location or just remember. And the vehicles have keys. But usually people destroy them. But i'd have at least 4 trucks somewhere with keys in a safe then grind grind grind.
I haven't played the mod in years by now, although I played epoch to death before standalone, was some of my best dayz memories. Didn't think there was much population on the mod anymore?

I prefer hiding stashes all around the map, whether I bury them or take a barrel and put it in the water where it's literally invisible. You'd have to be looking for it to find it.
Yeah. They can be. Lots of scrounging around in industrial buildings. Sometimes you won't find any for days. Sometimes you find 3 or 4 in an hour. That's dayz :)

Typically you won't know what crafting options you have until you have something in your hands, then when you combine it with another item or look at an item you can craft it with on the floor, you'll get an option
Hmmm interesting. Can't say I've ever noticed that but I've never been a fan of putting barbed wire that's probably why I never noticed. Either one of those 'features' of DayZ or something we are unaware of perhaps. Maybe someone else will drop a comment on it

As far as I remember you have to scroll wheel now before you hold down the mouse button to build. And you can scroll through the different items you can make?
Gates and walls can be destroyed but it takes some doing. My advice would be to do it on a server where there are no base raids allowed. Also you can build two walls so it will be even harder to destroy. Once they get through one wall, they need to get through another.
I'm not sure you can on a vanilla unmodded server because you can't place it because it clips the ceiling and stuff. With modded servers I'm sure its possible 100%
That depends on the server. On official i don't think you can, on modded servers with basebuilding they have a mod which allows you to clip basebuilding components into existing structures. So for example you can put a gate in place of a doorway so people can't get inside.
I dont think it does, someone else might be able to confirm. Fairly sure it is just to essentially refresh the despawn timer for all items without a 30m radius instead of having to individually interact with each item to refresh it's timer.

Newest patch has me and my friends really frustrated. Spent hours gathering the materials to build a base. every house we try to build in won’t let us build the upper wall no matter where we place the fence kit.. We ended up packing everything away and logging off. Just need to get off official once and for all and go to a community “vanilla” map with just a build anywhere mod on.
That's a shame man! Yeah I remember similar issues when I used to play on official's I think. The community ones tend to have mods which make it much easier to be able to build and attach things near dayz buildings and things like you mentioned. Plus you start bumping into the same people on community servers i find
The flag pole has a radius around it which protects all items placed like tents etc from depsawning. However tents on their own don't despawn for a few days if I recall. As long as you remove and put something back in the tent it refreshes the timer.
In official servers dont think you are able to, unless you create a watchtower i believe and use the second floor as a roof (looks a little rubbish though :) )

Flags you usually find in industrial areas/buildings. You can also find them in those hunter shops which you might find scattered around. The small shop with double doors at front, cashtill and a small store area at back with a door leading out.
Depends what you mean. You can blast down walls n stuff with a good amount of Grenades n break in. Or a LOT of wacking it. But grenades are the easiest way

If it's a very busy server chances are someone will take the time to raid it. Hide it in the woods. Small as possible is my suggestion. Otherwise loot stashes like I'd mentioned in another video

Great video, thank you :) Didn realize it takes so much wood to build a single wall or fence. Me and my buddy will have a lot of work to do. Question though: Is there a way to snap the walls together so they are aligned perfectly or do we have to eyeball it?
Cheers for the comments! So there is snapping on yeah. If you are doing 90c angles it'll snap. I think on the video I was making more a circle of fences so I was sort of eyeballing it. Hahha
Yeah I hear what you are saying and I agree. For a solo player it is a LOT of work and the chances are you'll be spotted in the process. However some people enjoy playing on more empty servers for the building experiences. And for group play a base can make or break your fun on the server :D

Hey there! You need to have the shovel in your hand and be looking at the log for the option to appear properly correct :)
Do I lose my base when the server restarts in official servers?
Only when there is an update and they wipe the servers. Otherwise I think your base should survive unless someone raids it :)

Was purely a time thing not because I don't enjoy it for now. Focusing my time on making some videos on youtube instead which hopefully helps people out! :)
Newest patch has me and my friends really frustrated. Spent hours gathering the materials to build a base. every house we try to build in won’t let us build the upper wall no matter where we place the fence kit.. We ended up packing everything away and logging off. Just need to get off official once and for all and go to a community “vanilla” map with just a build anywhere mod on.
That's a shame man! Yeah I remember similar issues when I used to play on official's I think. The community ones tend to have mods which make it much easier to be able to build and attach things near dayz buildings and things like you mentioned.
Plus you start bumping into the same people on community servers i find
How long does the flag last does it stop the despawning of the tents you have
The flag pole has a radius around it which protects all items placed like tents etc from depsawning. However tents on their own don't despawn for a few days if I recall. As long as you remove and put something back in the tent it refreshes the timer.
I watched this video then gave up before even starting a base. I'll never gather all those supplies together.
I hear ya, it's a lot to do for a solo player especially.
I'd like a list of the tools and materials needed. Looks like shovel hatchet nails planks logs rope sticks wire pliers stones sledgehammer.
Been a while since I rewatched this video of mine, but I thought I gave a list of items required for each base section? Unless im mistaken?

Is there a way to build a roof for your bases? Or is that just a modded thing?
In official servers dont think you are able to, unless you create a watchtower i believe and use the second floor as a roof (looks a little rubbish though :) )

Flags you usually find in industrial areas/buildings. You can also find them in those hunter shops which you might find scattered around. The small shop with double doors at front, cashtill and a small store area at back with a door leading out.

Depends what you mean. You can blast down walls n stuff with a good amount of Grenades n break in. Or a LOT of wacking it. But grenades are the easiest way

Grenades, several mags from an ak. Even an axe but you'll need several of them before you can break a wall and a lot of time 🤣
@@JippyUK ok thx for answer, just wanted to know bc if I want to do a base it takes alot of time and I dont want it destroyed by others quickly, in the previous versions like 1.04 or something it was too easy to destroy...
If it's a very busy server chances are someone will take the time to raid it.
Hide it in the woods. Small as possible is my suggestion.
Otherwise loot stashes like I'd mentioned in another video

Great video, thank you :) Didn realize it takes so much wood to build a single wall or fence. Me and my buddy will have a lot of work to do. Question though: Is there a way to snap the walls together so they are aligned perfectly or do we have to eyeball it?

So there is snapping on yeah. If you are doing 90c angles it'll snap. I think on the video I was making more a circle of fences so I was sort of eyeballing it.

It's too much messing about for my liking, probably worth while if in a small team but this is not for casual gaming, shame they made it such a chore,
Yeah I hear what you are saying and I agree. For a solo player it is a LOT of work and the chances are you'll be spotted in the process. However some people enjoy playing on more empty servers for the building experiences. And for group play a base can make or break your fun on the server :D
